Does Fleck get asked to interview for other coaching openings ?

I am breaking my own rule here by commenting in a thread that I think is dumb.

For some reason, Minnesotans think Fleck is a mediocre coach until any new job becomes available. At that point they both think Fleck has won 30 straight games, AND Appalachian State is a better head coaching job than the University of Minnesota.

It just never ends. And so much wasted time with worthless discussions like this. Including the time I just wasted typing this.

Doubt it. Better chance that Fickell is fired.
Interesting to see what happens across the border. Fickell was viewed as the Second Coming of Alvarez when hired (lot of it simple media hype), but he's .500 after two seasons. Doesn't help when the QB you brought in has a season-ending injury out of the gate, so he and his boosters have that to hang their hats on.

Isn’t the point of this board to kill time?

He is the coach that gave Wisconsin its first losing season in 20 something years and did the same at Ohio State of all places. Don't know how anyone to the east could have any faith in him right now.

All true. It would just seem, if not premature, to be a knee-jerk reaction. The thing I find hilarious is that he was banked upon to take the Badgers to the next level in terms of style as compared to the milquetoast Chryst and performance. National media thought it was a brilliant move. I just don't know if Wisconsin has a "W Club" similar to the "M Club" that got Cal Stoll fired and replaced with Joe Salem.

Caving in to the "we gotta throw the ball" crowd.

Unless I'm forgetting some kind of misconduct (entirely possible, don't follow them closely), I can't believe Wisconsin fired Chryst for this ...

Is it going to be like firing Pelini at Nebraska? Maybe that's not a reasonable comparison, I don't know for sure. But the two red programs are having a rough go.

Pretty even on the field

But Bo P was a dumbass who didn’t get fired for on the field stuff
He got fired for being a middle schooler

Didn't Pelini direct some comments at the fan base and boosters that really went over the line? Seems to me it was either a hot mic or a comment he thought was off-the-record that made things go from sour to poisonous.

No question Pelini could coach, but in some ways he belonged to a totally different era.

He may have called the AD female anatomy on his way out

Most programs, especially with big money boosters, are not going to take to PJ's schtick.
He also just closed on the dream house they built. I don't think he's leaving.

How often does a Power 4/5 coach leave for another Power 4/5 after 8 years with one school? Brian Kelly is the only one that comes to my mind...
Mike Riley to Nebraska is another, which is still a head scratcher.

No.... But a better question is what bar does a coach need to be held to here? 6 to 8 wins, good losses, and an occasional lights out year? The bad years aren't typically much less than that. Everybodys opinion changes if the offense isn't boring or if the phrase "tressel-ball" wasn't invented

Go 6-6 to 8-4 each year with a 9+ regular season on occasion seems like it would be good enough

He need a 9+ regular season by 2027 provided he avoids a 4-8

Bo made off the cuff statements about the fan base and boosters that were spot on… unfortunately the truth hurt people who were in position to act… even though Bo was right, and they were wrong and should have stood down.

I hope I'm dead wrong, but I feel like Koi already had big dollars waived in his face and chose specifically to come to Minnesota and do exactly what he has been given the opportunity to do. So is unlikely to leave? Like I said, hope I'm wrong

EDIT: I think I meant to say I hope I'm right! LOL (I meant that I don't think he'll leave, whichever way)

Have posted before was at the game in Lincoln when we won in 2014. The post-game Husker Radio Network was on while riding back to Omaha with Husker family members. Coach Pelini's presser followed by the fan call-in line were brutal after losing to the "Goofers." Went downhill from there.

Koi's an old-style small-town homer and I respect that. He'll be an all-time Gopher great, go to the NFL and might even make the hall of fame. He'll retire and open a bar in Esko where he can hang out with he's old buddies and hunt and fish.
Not putting him done. It's just my guess.
