Does Fleck get asked to interview for other coaching openings ?

The gophers literally have fired Multiple coaches who had 6 wins as the floor

Mason and claeys
I mean, Claeys was fired for a stupid tweet and an awful off-field incident but yes, Mason was fired for poor on-field performance as a 6-win coach.

Granted, if he gotten to 6 wins like any normal coach then his job might have been safe, but he blew a 31-point third quarter lead in a bowl game when fans were already unhappy with him.

I don't look into this too much, but anecdotally PJ feels as if he's been setting down roots in MN. Has the entire AD on his side, has whatever he's doing with his real estate + vacation home at this point, has figured out local recruiting and kept MN kids home, RTB is so embedded into the program that it would be hard for him to take it with him and have it embraced, etc.

I wouldn't know how coaches deal with leaving the door open to future moves, but from what I've seen I could absolutely envision Fleck becoming a Gundy/Whittingham/Ferentz type figure and sticking around for 15-20 years or more.

At any rate, his record outside of 2019 is probably seen as good but not great enough for any large program that Fleck would bite on to take the risk with the culture aspect, developmental coaching, or attitude/personality. PJ's coaching style definitely not for everyone.

Not to mention that my brain just cannot imagine him at the head of a major SEC school. Auburn HC PJ Fleck sounds wrong on so many levels.

There is a really good chance he is a serious contender for some openings this off-season.

It wouldn't surprise me to see him being poached by a UNC or Kentucky.
Seriously? Poaching eggs is the only thing that will happen. Its cozy here because he will get paid and never get fired, ever. UNC is crap as is Kentucky. Much better chance to get into the top 12 here.

This place is so awesome. One week fleck should be on the hot seat and the next week we need to be worried about him getting poached.

In all honesty I think he’d need a couple more 10 win seasons to be a legit candidate for a major step up job. He has a losing big 10 record here and there are a seemingly at least one head scratching loss almost every year. I like him and am glad he’s our coach, but I think the week to week swinging if opinion is crazy.

You are correct

This is why I think Wisconsin is the most likely place for him to land if he moves in the next 2 years. Yes, they make fun of him, but they (and Nebraska) are also the only ones that are aware of what he has done at Minnesota.

He massively improved recruiting, flipped the rivalry back on its head leading to instability at UW, has done well with NIL, he’s stable, he’s affordable, he knows how to win, and he’s a Badger fan. If Fickell doesn’t work out, then I bet they give him a hell of a close look.

Good grief.

He's never going to Wisconsin, give it up.

Please stop sniffing glue...

I think Fleck is third in tenure in the B10 and he should embrace that and make it clear unless the AD spot goes with it, he won't leave for another coaching job - and that offer isn't likely. He's hitting just above 60% and doesn't have the pushovers Mason had every year - hence the best won-loss record since PRE-WAR (1941 and earlier) Bierman! Keep him, his family, his program, his DC, and give them all the NIL that can be raised.

We could probably add Cal Stoll, too. He did win only five games his final year, but he basically lived at 7-4 and 6-5. Got us to a bowl game in 1977, the year before he was fired, when there were only 13 bowl games. Finished .500 in the Big Ten his final three years.

They're talking about trading for Shanahan here in Chicago
The Bears should consider Pat Fitzgerald

His name's a little tainted but there's no way he's pulling that kind of garbage in the pros. He was long a popular name for NFL openings and he's still thought of positively in Chicago.

The McCaskeys supposedly were after him for many years before the scandal broke. This is the first time that job has come open since he's been unemployed.

It is a well known fact that Fleck likes nature, and that certainly includes real grass. Ross Ade stadium features a real grass field and the Purdue job is OPEN. Let the interview countdown begin.
I assume you are kidding.

Fleck is gonna win 6-8 games here every single year. Thats basically his floor, and that will NEVER get him fired considering MN loves being “not bad.”

Tough for anybody to want to leave that situation. Make piles of money in a comfortable job as long as he doesn’t under perform he’s safe
He's our Dave Doreen of NC State, wins the 6-8 games, has a once in awhile season of 10 wins, may have a 5-7 season in there, but enough consistency to stick around.

Funny coincidence, Dave Doreen was a college teammate of our very own Mark Coyle.

Not sure how we can claim that Claeys had a floor of 6 wins when he had a sample size of one year.
A year and a half and in year 1 they finished 5-7

But he was an embarrassment to society so he never got the chance to prove his floor was lower than that. So his floor may have been less than 6 wins

I can't believe Fitzgerald hasn't already been hired somewhere yet. In my opinion he never should have been fired. He is going to settle for millions from Northwestern

This is a situation where a rich and famous man like Pat Fitzgerald will get paid whereas most of the rest if us would lose the case because we aren’t rich and famous.

I disagree

I am sure he will end up getting paid a bunch, but it’ll end up a settlement

Neither side want details going public.
Northwestern never accused him of wrongdoing.
They will settle somewhere between the full buyout and 0 dollars…I would guess slightly less than the full buyout….but we will never hear the number.

He isn’t getting more than the full buyout when they never accused him of wrong doing.

Wisconsin's issues have nothing to do with anything fleck has done or has not done.
