Serious man crush on the speedster's abilities. Without him, I'm confident we have nothing going on this year.

Crazy talk warning: He could probably steal a game or two in the National Tourny if the people he passes to have a pulse.

in the B10? not a chance, even with how Mo and Elliot have progressed it just wouldn't have happened. And the last part you wrote isn't crazy talk by a long stretch.

If Tubby were still the coach, we wouldn't have Mathieu, Malik, McNeil, or King. Instead we'd have Ellis, Foster, and some other spring recruits. Imagine how ugly that team would look.

Please, can we have a thread without bringing up Tubby. He's gone, let him go. Thank you.

Hell no. Success in college basketball is largely dependent on guard play, and he's completely elevated the performance of the most important position on the floor for the Gophers. Man, it would've been fun to watch last year's team with Little Dre behind the wheel.

Deandre is the best pg we have had since Ariel McDonald. Eric Harris and Al Nolen are next on my list. They were better defenders than Deandre, but couldn't score the ball like he can.

This conversation is all BS. We have Drizzy. What has happened has happened. Why bother speculating about something that has no basis in reality? Oh, I know. You have nothing better to do. Get a life, guys!

Worse than Miles Tarver?

Just pointing out that all 4 of Pitino's guys, including Mathieu, are playing major roles for us. I can't imagine where we'd be without them.

Joe Coleman, Dre at his natural PG position, and Not So Huge Mo and EE playing together.

1. Dre-3 year starter
2. Joe-3 year starter
3. Austin-3 year starter
4. Not So Huge Mo at last seasons playing weight of 285 lbs.
5. EE

Doesn't sound ugly to me.

Joe said he decided to transfer before Tubby was fired.

And you think Mo would lose weight under Tubby? LOL He was over 3 bills, hence the 65 pounds he lost int he offseason.

I disagree with his post a whole lot, but to be fair, he said Mo would still be big.

Howie, Mo weighed more than 300 pounds. He did not weigh 285. Moreover, We would not have had Coleman, which is fine because he wasn't good. We also would have Mav as our PG, which is not fine because he is terrible.

In other words, we'd have no depth, a slightly bigger black hole at PF, and a huge hole a SG because instead of Dre Hollins we'd have someone horrible or someone not ready to play like Ellis.

I disagree that Dre's natural position is PG. He's capable of playing it but his lack of quickness and the fact he's only a decent ballhandler make him better off the ball. The addition of Mathieu has been huge. And like madtown said, Coleman might still be gone if Tubby was still here and Not So Huge Mo would probably still be Huge Mo.

Big Ten play, junior years:
Julian Welch >>>> Mathieu

What are you smoking?

Welch had a nice junior year and very good from the 3 pt line.

However- he's not even close to the impact Matheui has. The stats tell about a third of the story:

Welch pts-9.5, assists- 3, steals-1, TO- 2.3
Matheui pts-11.9, assists-4.3, steals- 1.6, TO- 2.8

"Drizzy"? Far out, Man.

Only the Shadow knows about Joe. He didn't announce he was leaving until we signed McNeil and Mathieu. Not So Huge Mo blossomed during the offseason, it happens to big men. No one is happier Coach P. and staff are here than me, but if the previous regime was still here, we would not be forfeiting games.

1. How many games would Mo and EE have fouled out in?
2. Consider the outside shooting....ugly
3. Slow
4. Off the bench in the hockey line change- Mav, Ellis, Oto, Foster/Buggs, Wally - hows that look?

Sounds to me like a 13-13 club with about 3 Big Ten wins so far.

Still need a true PG, just add someone like Syanni Chambers that wasn't highly recruited to that and you would have a team, the inability to recruit a PG and the effort to fit a square peg into a round hole was the biggest failure of the previous three or four years.

It will be interesting to see who fills the hole when Mathieu graduates, McNeill sure isn't a PG, Mason??, a future recruit. Really need Mason to fill that void, just don't see anyone right now.

Really? You are hilarious. Pitino gave Mo an ultimatum. Both Pitino and Mo acknowledged this.

I'm very high on Jarvis Johnson and like our chances of signing him. It's not ideal, but I see Mason filling the few available minutes behind Mathieu next season and then moving to his more natural position of SG when Jarvis arrives. Just a guess.

I hope we can get Jarvis as well, but I think it will be tougher than people want to admit right now.

Next year we will be more than fine at PG. Mathieu and Dre will start at the 1 and 2. Dre will be the de facto back up PG. Mason and McNeil will also be able to handle the point if we ever get in a situation where neither Mathieu or Dre are on the floor. Pitino has said he likes to play multiple players with the ability to bring the ball up and we'll definitely see that next year.

Coleman didn't announce he was leaving until after Tubby was let go. King was going to try to come here regardless....he contacted the U.....it wasn't Pitino coming to him. I don't know if Mo lost the weight on his own or if it was because of Pitino, but I'm guessing it had a little to do with both. Oto would have been the same. Ellis would have been a great recruit for the Gophers. Pitino brought in Matthieu.....which has been huge!!!!!!!! Tubby would not have brought in a PG like him and Matthieu has made this team decent.....along with Mo's improvement. Most likely we are better with Pitino this year than we would have been with Tubby.....but I don't think we would have been at the bottom of the conference with Tubby either. We would have been similar. It was time for a change, because if we were sitting at 6-7 with Tubby as coach have missed on the top 4 recruits in the state, this would be the most toxic message board in the world.

Someone mentioned they were sure that Pitino would win a championship one day. I don't know if the person meant a B1G championship or a national championship, but I'm not sure what anyone has seen that would make them so confident on a national championship. Especially at the U. We still haven't figured out how to get our facilities out of the bottom of the B1G, and without that we have no chance to compete at that level. Pitino still hasn't shown me that he can sign the big recruit not to mention a top recruiting class. I think he will have good classes, but he hasn't shown it yet. In order for me to say he can accomplish something so far out of our reach, he would have to so that first.
