Did anyone listen to Danny B and Mason today?

5-3 sounds pretty optimistic to me at this point. The administration hasn't shown the commitment to anything beyond that.

The administration is too busy spending 282 million on a new home for the marching band.

Nice thread, a few points
1. Some posters are correct - we do obsess too much about Mason. But we do this because he's always trying to whine about getting fired, etc., etc. A few weeks back on Dan B's show, Mason kept asserting that he literally did not know why he was fired at MN. He said something like, "I guess cause I didn't win enough games or something." Dan B did not say anything to contest this obviously idiotic statement - a statement he would've endlessly replayed and ripped before Mason was his regular guest. I did enjoy the segments, as Mason did have some interesting insights, but it was painful listening to him, as his wounds have still not healed from his firing.

2. Just pointing it out: Kill's record at NIll against Big10: 2-3(.400) Mason's Big10 record 32-48(.400)

3. I think the Big10 may be a bit better now than in Gutey's day. You look at the schedule and you realize: Wisc, Ind, NW, Ill, Purdue - those were all bad teams most years. Now it seems most Big10 teams are at least competitive every year. But in reality, it's possible that this seeming difference is really just caused by the drastically different non-conf schedules.

Agree with #1. I don't listen to Bumper-to-Bumper often, but I have to drive a lot for my job these days and did catch Mason with Barreiro a few times and found the segments generally interesting except when Barreiro simply used them to rip the Gopher program. I could tell at some junctures that Mason wasn't particularly comfortable going down the road Barreiro wanted to go and thought he did a nice job begging off on a chance to drop the big one on Maturi or Brewster.

Dammit! All the times I listen to Danny B, and I missed it this time. Aw Shucks!

Since 1980

Holtz>Mason>Goodie>Salem>Wacker>Brewster. Kill?

Mason was replaced by a used car salesman. Manuri doesn't know what he is doing. Mason is the 2nd best Gopher coach since 1980. The focus should be on how bad Brewster was and how poor an AD Manuri is not how bad Mason was. Mason was solid. I hope Kill does well...let's hope even a blind squirrel (the AD) can find a nut once in a while.

It appears to me that Mason's over scheduling of all the games against the Toledos/Akrons/Miami of Ohios etc. was not so much to produce Big 10/National Championship Jan 1st bowl calliber teams but rather to prepare himself for a future gig as a coach in the MAC.

Brewster might have been a used car salesman but at least he gave it everything he had when coached the Gophers. After 2003 Mason stopped caring and stopped trying. He was stealing his salary and he deserves absolutely no respect from anyone who cares about Gopher football. I will always think better of Brewster because he wanted to win big but he didn't have the required coaching skills. If Mason had put in even half of the effort of Brewster he would still be coaching the Gophers and he would have already won the Big 10 Championship and taken us to the Rose Bowl. Mason just didn't care enough to want to do it. What a piece of sh*t.

I didn't feel brewster did a darn thing while he was here...

He ran around the country a lot when he should have been coaching. However, he didn't have a clue how to coach. He didn't even know what offense or defense he based his recruiting on. He tried to have his offensive coordinators tell him what kind of offense he really believed in. He went through offensive coordinators and offenses like changes of clothes. The same with defenses and defensive coordinators. He believed in nothing. He knew nothing about anything related to football that mattered at all. He had no conviction. He was not able to instill discipline in his players. brewster was a complete disaster. Oh, he talked about recruiting 24/7/365. What did he do on those recruiting trips?????He tweeted...he twittered...he had a web site...he loved the "social media" and he went on more recruiting trips. He got a lot of expereince making hires for his staff.

Sorry: brewster knew nothing and he did nothing. He ran around in circles and accomplished nothing. He didn't know what systems he was recruiting for and he didn't know from year to year what his next system and scheme was going to be.

And you thought he was working hard??????? Are you kidding me? He was faking everything. He was the biggest disaster the football program has ever seen, on all levels.

maturi needs to be escorted out of his office by security as he cleans out his desk. The sooner the better. He (and, of course Prexy B) were completely responsible for the brewster disaster.

walrus, apparently you only skimmed my post without taking time to understand it. Let me restate it for you. Tim Brewster was a poor coach who tried and failed. Mason was an underachieving coach who failed because for lack of effort. I am happy both of them are gone. I am not mad at Brewster for not getting the job done because he just didn't have what it takes. I despise Mason for not getting the job done because he is a talented coach who just didn't try hard enough.

brewster was a con man. maturi/Prexy B were over their heads trying to be general...

managers of a football program. brewster conned them, wasted University of Minnesota resources flying around the country recruiting "athletes" for systems and schemes he knew nothing about. He was pretty muchmaking a laughing stock out of maturi, prexy b, all the brewball apologists and the Unviersity of Minnesota Football Program. He faked his way into an assumed identity as a fooball gm/recruiter. brewster was a con man who took the money, failed the kids on the team and the fans in the stadium. He. maturi and Prexy B ruined the first two years of TCF BANK STADIUM.

I loved being at OSU in 2000 and in the Big House in Ann Arbor in 2005. Watching the Gophers beat Oregon, Alabama, Arkansas and PSU, MSU, iowa, wisky, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana and NU, was a lot of fun. It used to be worth the trip to travel to the Big Ten Stadiums for games. I've got no regrets for the 10 years Mason put in. He was NEEDED to get the stadium deal done. He turned out a lot of ALL-American players and All-Big Ten players. He showed me a lot more than a lot of other Gopher Football Coaches showed me. If you are going to trash him, expect the other side of the argument to be expressed.

There is NO defense of brewster, maturi and Prexy B. None. Zero. Zilch.
