Devoe Joseph to transfer?

Let's not blow this thing out of proportion. DJ clearly heard the Justin Cobbs story before and "he know the deal" already. Dame is playing in Japan (time difference) and likely doesn't care to re-litigate Justin's case again.

As for Devoe, I don't want to suppose his issues but they seem to be several. He wouldn't have recommended Big Mo to the U if he thought it was so bad. In fairness to Devoe, he knows how well his little brother Corey is playing at Texas, getting the starting nod for them. He played a pivotal role in the Big Ten tourney and may wish he had more playing time.

As has been pointed out by several, other universities are facing similar issues with their players all the time.

I agree with a lot of this. Who knows, I may have misread the convo and it's all a big misunderstanding. I just thought it seemed like an interesting conversation if DJ was agreeing with Cobbs. With that said, I have no problem whatsoever with Tubby doing things his way and if players don't like it, they can leave. He's been successful doing it his way for years, so why change now?

Come on, we all learned the truth about Tubby Smith from Royce White.

But, here's some more recent tweets from DJ:

@WHYN0TJCOBBS man u got us put on gopherhole lol i don't have any problems wit coach smith he helped me out alot we got a good relationship

Just lettin fans know when I said u know the deal I meant @WHYN0TJCOBBS knows the situation relax don't read too deep into anything

This was just posted on Twitter not too long ago and doesn't look all that great, especially since it looks like Damian is agreeing with Cobbs.

If you're having trouble reading it, DJ is the one who starts the conversation and Cobbs is the one responding.

Golden boy to goat--can't all be Devoe's fault. I'll say it again: monsters aren't born, they are created. It all comes down to coaching.

Why can't it be Devoe's fault, that is just an assumption masquerading as a fact. And as to monsters being created, even if true that doesn't mean created by Tubby. I would guess he had a chip on his shoulder when he got here. As to cliche #3, that is just wrong. It all comes down to the kids, the coaches just fritter around the margins. Here's my cliche: The character is in the kid, or not.

Chaulk me up as the guy who thinks there is a middle ground here somewhere. At the end of the day, the player needs to respect his coach and his decisions... period. That said, as I watch some games I say to myself "Devoe should be in the game"... If I am saying that on my couch or from my seat, what do you think Devoe is thinking????

Also, sometimes this is what happens when we have a talented team (get over it chicken littles, we do have one)... some players don't get enough PT in their eyes and leave.

I also think we have plenty of talent coming in at the guard spot..while young and inexperienced, its serious talent (Hollins and Coleman). Yes, a pure point would be nice but we will be fine with or without Devoe.. hopefully with him!

Twitter

Twitter Compreshension 101 should be a foreign language class offered at all universities. I've read the Damian/Cobbs twitter conversation 3 or 4 times, and I still have no idea what the hell they are saying. As a society, do we really not have anything better to do than read Twitter jibberish?

"Tubby has shown that he is a decent coach, but he is borderline top-15 active, at best."

So what you're saying is Tubby is roughly among the top 15 active coaches in the nation among 345 Division I coaches, and that's not satisfactory enough for you? That puts him in the top 4% of his profession, but he's just a "decent" coach? By all means, let's can his a*s as soon as the 2010-11 season is over, if not sooner.

I agree somewhat, but Twitter does give us the ability to see/read what the players are actually feeling/thinking without any filter. People enjoy hearing what players say at a press conference after a game, which is typically pretty PC and boring.

However, I think people enjoy reading Twitter posts because they are more raw than anything else we would normally get from players in terms of communication.

I agree with you but some of us need a translation to standard English.

:)

Good luck finding real jobs boys

Wow, what a train wreck. Apparently the U degree not helping DJ. No problem with some guys transferring; Tubby is an outstanding coach, but tough.

Why would you attempt to bring logic to this discussion? Shame on you, Hodger.

Let's get this thread back on track. Tubby sucks, the team sucks, the University is imploding...have at it, trolls.

You're basing your assessment of their writing skills on a series of Twitter posts? I didn't find it that hard to understand and I'm not 17 years old. I think most folks under 40 can appreciate the difference between a Facebook/Twitter post (or even an internet message board post) and formal writing. But I suppose some of those doing the hiring might not, so you have a point. I find it to be an interesting window to the players that didn't exist before and nothing more. Even if 90% of what you see is boring and irrelevant. Just the fact that Al and Trevor who seem to tweet quite frequently have gone pretty silent the last couple days is telling I guess.

Post of the year.

Not all of twitter is like that. And what do you mean do we really not have anything better to do than read Twitter jibberish? If you're thinking like that, then what about this board? You could ask the same question. I don't follow anyone on twitter but I enjoy when people post stuff like they did with DJ and Cobbs. As mentioned, it's interesting to hear directly from the players. I really don't understand how it's that difficult to interpret but then again I'm a college student. Either way though, they're tweeting just like they talk, and I'd guess most people on here can understand them when they talk. Which brings me to my next point (not directed at you)... but people need to stop bashing players for the way they talk on twitter. It's not difficult to understand that they wouldn't write a paper like that. There are assumptions that they actually think they're spelling words correctly or that all of the words they use actually exist.

Well, we did just have a player transfer so we have an open scholarship....

Sorry Farmer...there is no open scholarship with the latest tranfer at Iowa State. Including next year's class, they are back down to 13 for next year.

Not sure why everyone is being so hard on Tubby. I have heard from a couple credible sources that he was once again suspended due to failing a drug test (weed). Tubby has given the kid plenty of chances and he wont learn his lesson. What else is Tubby suppose to do? And as far his mother emailing Myron, she only has her own son to be disappointed in.

Actually there is an open scholarship today. Phillips left and his spot is open. The staff can either leave it open for next year OR they can bring in someone else. Fred signed a 14th player before he knew Phillips was leaving. The question then becomes, does Fred know someone else is leaving so he signed a 14th player or did he know Phillips was leaving so he signed a 14th player? Fred already signed an extra person once, I would not be shocked if he was willing to do it again if he knows where another scholarship is coming from.

Oh man, I haven't logged in to this site since July 09. Sometimes it is best to be a fly on the wall. This conversation full of so much nonsense. Bringing up Paul Carter's transfer in reference to Tubby's coaching is outrageous. It is really hard for me to believe that the issue isn't with Devoe. He doesn't seem to be very stable.

This is BS

Mingg - I don't know what you're watching, but Devoe is an average player who thinks he is more than that. You are talking about him like he's Bobby Jackson. He had talent, but didn't play well within a system to utilize that talent.

The ball stopped when it got to him. I love a guy who puts the ball on the floor with a purpose. Devoe put the ball on the floor almost every time he touched it, or just held it. When he did it with a purpose he did well. Far too often it was just to dribble the ball - not to get a better angle, attack a gap, or get a shot.

Also, he's slow. He was our worst defender, I think, and he was so slow pushing the ball up the floor, rarely moving it with a pass. The offense moved better before he came back. My hope is it improves once again.

My best to Devoe because he has a lot of talent, but we didn't lose an all-conference guard.

Are you sure you're not describing Nolen?

Sounds like it. All that's missing is 'take a wide angle around the ball screen, resulting in nothing,' and 'kill time till there's 7 seconds on the shot clock' and you've got him nailed.
