Figured I might as well start a thread where we can keep track of the numbers as they sort themselves out. According to 247, we had 85 players on scholarship this past season. Of those, 11 are seniors who are graduating, and we know of 3 who transferred (An additional non-scholarship player has also transferred). That leaves us currently with 14 spots for 23 currently signed players in this class. Who else do you think is a candidate for transferring out/graduating? We currently need 9 spots

Thought 3 guys have transferred already. 2 Offensive lineman and a defensive back...

I'm looking at the transfer portal now to get the correct numbers, I could only remember one, will edit the original post

Alright, 4 Gophers are in the transfer portal currently:
Nate Umlor
Harry Van Dyne
Ben Davis
CJ Smith

Ben Davis was non-scholarship, so he doesn't affect the numbers

Winfield opens a spot most likely.

We could also have grey-shirted three of the young men in this years class.

I've come up with 5 candidates to transfer/graduate:

Malcolm Robinson
Noah Hickcox
Trenton Guthrie
Kyle Sassack
Clay Geary

Theses fix either had no play time in 2019 or minimal and have been with the team 2+ years.

Pretty sure, current scholarship grid shows 84, with Umlor having already transferred and no longer showing on the grid (where as the other 2 still are on the grid), bringing us to 85. If he was on scholarship last year, we would've been over the limit

Ok, you might be write. I don't think 247 normally lists PWO as part of the class.

It'll work itself out

Yeah I don't think so either, which confuses me as well. Sadly, 247's scholarship grid seems to not reflect historic numbers well, so I can't really check other than this past year.

To make your math a little harder, we are at 24 signed players in this class. The Aussie also got a scholarship, he's just not listed as signed on 247 because he wasn't evaluated and was messing up the class.

Wasn’t Geary a walk-on? Guessing he was on a one year scholarship.

So we actually need 10 spots at the moment

Yeah, I wonder if him or brock annexstad lose their scholarship
Brock doesn't show up on the grid, so I think his was just one year in 2018. And you're right that Geary was a walk on, so his was probably only for the year...

Back down to 9 spots needed assuming Geary's scholarship was only a year

Kramer or Clark?

Every year we go through this speculation, which is fine as it is a message board, but really it always works itself out. The coaches know more about whats happening then we do.

This is pretty much how I feel

It's all so opaque ... everyone has theories and posts numbers and I've no idea if any of it is accurate.

Somehow the sky doesn't fall and we're still playing football come fall.

Annexstad would be more likely, but I don't think any of the QBs are going anywhere.

If I had to add another name to the list, it would be Ryerse. Using a scholarship for just a kickoff guy with the other kickers they've brought in, doesn't make sense to me.

Agreed, I'm still curious how it'll work out. I'm not worried about it however

I'm sure they'd like to convince him to transfer.

But he might just like it here in MN

Doesn’t make sense but likely harder to convince him to go somewhere he’ll play more- especially since it would assuredly be somewhere unable to give him a scholarship. Football scholarships are a 4 year commitment in the BIG- can’t force him out.

My math says we have to move 6 people. Keep in mind that my math assumes WOs who are awarded scholarships do not have them guaranteed. They often get them re-awarded if one opens up in the spring/summer.

QB: 4 (Kramer, Clark, Morgan, Annexstad)
RB: 5 (Wiley, Potts, Williamson, B. Williams, Ibrahim)
WR: 9 (S. Green, CAB, D.Douglas, R. Bateman, J. Brooks, E. Gibson, NAM, M. Brown-Stephens, Udoibok)
TE: 4 (Witham, Kieft, Paulson, BSF)
OT: 5 (Schlueter, Dickson, Sassack, Faalele, Guedet)
OG: 4 (Andries, Dunlap, Cooper, Beier)
C: 3 (Olson, Schmitz, Boe)
DE: 6 (Otomewo, Mafe, N-Okonji, Ahanatu, Anderson, Harris)
DT: 8 (MDT, K. Schad, Robinson, Hickox, Teague, Cheney, Richter, Charter)
LB: 7 (Guthrie, Rush, Oliver, Aune, Willis, Sori-Marin, Gordon)
CB: 7 (Durr, Howard, Harris, K. Thomas, St. Juste, T. Smith, S. Brown)
S: 4 (Antoine Winfield, Sapp, Howden, Nubin)
Specialist: 3 (Ryerse, Lantz, Weeks)

2019 Class: 21
PJ Said we have one more spot: 1

That total is 91.

So 6 people from that list.

I wasnt 100% sure on the position for some of the guys, so I picked one for the sake of counting.
