yup. they have to get to 8 by 2026. the 4 new teams (and any others that join them) will not become part of the new conference until 2026.Don't they need to have at least 8 teams to be eligible for an auto bid?
Idaho as well?A bit of a gut punch for a WYO grad/fan. It may be time for a call-up of the Montana and Dakota teams and make the best of it. In this new, weird, stupid, greedy, shitty era of college sports, maybe that's as good as it gets for this mid-level group.
Two trains of thought from the Montanas and xDSUs: 1. Stay put with uncertainties of paying players, etc (how much will it cost to run an athletic dept) and what a MWC TV deal looks like without the top 4 (possibly 6); 2. Everyone seems to think there will be an avulsion in FBS, with P4ish breaking off and playing by it's own rules, leaving the G5/6/7 as a refactoring second tier and it would be better to be on the inside when that happens and be a part of that second tier, rather than on the outside looking in from the new third tier of FCS.yup. they have to get to 8 by 2026. the 4 new teams (and any others that join them) will not become part of the new conference until 2026.
Yes, it is. I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for Wyoming, Air Force and Hawaii going back to the WAC days in the 1980’s. Especially loved watching Hawaii run that triple option back then until about 2-3am. This may kill that program.A bit of a gut punch for a WYO grad/fan.
I don’t care what you call it, but the new PAC-12/6-PAC is not a power conference.I can't imagine the 6-Pac will command anywhere near ACC dollars,
I would say Idaho isn’t as deserving to move up, but given the beating they just gave WYO, why not!?Idaho as well?
Idaho isn't too many years removed from FBS. Unless there is a healthy media contract attached, it makes zero sense for the top FCS programs to consider a move to MWC.I would say Idaho isn’t as deserving to move up, but given the beating they just gave WYO, why not!?

Uconn then in the East.right now it's a lot of speculation and rumor.
I saw someone on Twitter claiming that the 6-PAC wants to add teams in the Central and Eastern time zones to create more TV windows. who the bleep knows? If nothing else, it's going to keep the bloggers and YouTube shows busy for a while. the gang at 'The Monty Show' will be going nuts.
Can’t remember which college football insider it was, but I heard one of them on ESPN say that UNLV would be a great addition, but that state politics would likely require them and Nevada to go as a pair and that would likely complicate the issue for the PAC-12. They are unlikely to want Nevada.Any chance UNLV gets added to the PAC? They have been playing pretty good football this year and last year.
Sorry I can't remember the name, but Dan Patrick had a guest that indicated Memphis as well as either UTSA or North Texas would be the top targets.right now it's a lot of speculation and rumor.

It was Ross Dellinger from Yahoo Sports. Tulane was also another candidate.Sorry I can't remember the name, but Dan Patrick had a guest that indicated Memphis as well as either UTSA or North Texas would be the top targets.
Didn't rule out Central Florida or South Florida either. If all those fail then they would look at the best of the rest of Mtn West.
Wasn't the reason they dropped because they couldn't catch on with the MWC of that time, whereas schools like Nevada, San Jose, etc. from the old WAC were able to join?Idaho just dropped down. I don't see them moving back so soon.
I think they would have stayed up had they been able to find a conference.Wasn't the reason they dropped because they couldn't catch on with the MWC of that time, whereas schools like Nevada, San Jose, etc. from the old WAC were able to join?
I'm just wondering if they had gotten an invite back then if they would've stuck it out. Maybe not
I stand by the opinion that the MWC will immediately backfill with NMSU and UTEP.Monday was a wacky one in the Realignment derby. multiple conflicting reports from various media outlets.
What I think I know.....(subject to change)
Utah State is joining the 6-PAC. that gives the conference 7 teams. they need 8 teams for official NCAA status as a conference. and here is where it gets muddy. the schools in the AAC (Memphis, Tulane, USF and UTSA) announced they have committed to stay in the AAC. the issue was reportedly uncertainty over future media contracts and payouts in the new PAC.
now the focus shifts back to the Mountain West. with Utah State leaving, that puts the MWC down to 7 teams. Earlier, the MWC had reported that all of its members had agreed to stay put - but that was apparently contingent on all 8 teams remaining. with Utah State leaving, UNLV is - according to reports - "further exploring its options." IF UNLV jumps to the PAC, that drops the MWC down to 6 teams and puts the future of the conference in peril. some sources claim that, in that event, Air Force would consider leaving for the AAC to join Army and Navy in the same conference.
and the wild card - the PAC is reportedly talking to Gonzaga about moving to the PAC. Gonzaga does not play football, so the PAC would need 8 football schools for full conference status, but would take Gonzaga as a non-football member to add a top basketball program.
stay tuned. UNLV is the next domino. if UNLV jumps to the PAC, the MWC is in serious trouble. if UNLV stays in the MWC, the PAC needs to find another football school. Yowzah!
That makes sense to me. Thought this all longWouldn't it have made sense for the entire MW to just move to the Pac?
If UNLV goes to the PAC and AF to AAC, that leaves, what? Wyoming, San Jose State, New Mexico, Nevada and Hawaii (FB only). There's not a lot of value here as a surviving FBS conference. The MWC could certainly take some of the exit money (PAC is now suing MWC over the "Poaching Penalty") to be paid by the departing schools and by PAC and try to entice teams into the MWC but that didn't work for the PAC who will get a media deal. But the MWC carcass, even if it adds a few schools, won't be of much media value. The remainders might be better off buying their way into C-USA, it's new Mountain West division and pocketing the rest.Monday was a wacky one in the Realignment derby. multiple conflicting reports from various media outlets.

I am just starting to get used to the concept of Big 10 Hockey.Does anyone think, given the Gophers' inability to compete in the BiG since the 60s, that moving to another conference might be appropriate? Yes, I know a lot of money is at stake, but if the administration is truly not a champion for excellence, it could accept less money from a less prestigious conference and cut some athletic department costs accordingly. The admin's purported indifference and the recruiting disadvantages of Minneapolis, maybe it's time to think of a bold change. Maybe find a little bit littler pond to swim in.

Could the Gophers could be in different conferences in different sports?I am just starting to get used to the concept of Big 10 Hockey.
For hockey that's already possible, Notre Dame is Men's Hockey affiliate Big 10 member.Could the Gophers could be in different conferences in different sports?
