Complete meltdown in tOSU

During a more rational era, that type of insubordination would get your scholarship pulled. This is one of the problems with making college football into a pro-preparatory league. Let the pros establish their own minor league and make college football college football again.

It has always been as you say a "pro-preparatory" league. Urban was and is one of the best College football coaches of all time. He cost his team big time, the worst thing he could do would be to punish the player for making a correct statement about what happened.

tOSU couldn't give Elliott any more carries because they couldn't get any more first downs. When Elliott did carry the ball he didn't get them many yards or first downs. In the 12 carries he did get Ezekiel got a grand total of 33 yards. Hey, but he did "break" one of those for 7. Meaning on the other 11 he got a grand total of 26 yards.

As for "stretching the field", Barrett threw the ball only 16 times, completing 9 of them. Got only 46 yards doing it so they didn't hit anything deep, but if they couldn't move the ball 10 yards completing short passes, how can anybody think that hanging back there to air it out would have been more successful?

MSU outgained them 294 yards to 132. Sparty got 17 Ist Downs to five for tOSU. They held the ball for 38 minutes to 22 for the Buckeyes and MSU turned the ball over twice in doing it.

Maybe Elliott fancies himself an Adrian Peterson. "Yeah, I can look awful for 7-8 carries but then I'll break one for 75 yards!" The problem is the tOSU Offense couldn't get enough 1st Downs to GET him all those extra carries, and he certainly didn't help them do that either.

MSU beat them without playing their best QB and their Defense shut the damn Buckeye's Offense down no matter what they tried to do.

The Buckeye players and their fans should quite whining, but that's tough for them to do. They haven't had much experience with it.

Remember last year when the Buckeye Coaches and players were very gracious after beating the Gophers by a TD. Saying how tough it was to get that victory, while their "fans" screamed and whined about how the "game wasn't as close as the final score" indicated.

Both the players and their fans should be saying that today about last night's game too.

Stop listening to Fox News for your vocabulary, they have all messed up. Entitlement does not apply the way you think it should.

He is entitled to adequate coaching, if I go to work I'm entitled to a pay check.

The Ohio State players were entitled to have a chance to win the game.

Entitlement as a negative implies that one expects something they did not earn.

Just stop already... Really

Meyer would come across as a huge idiot if he benched Elliot for telling the truth. This was a continuation of the bad coaching decisions that happened on the field. Elliot should never have been made available to the media.
.

The problem is if it wasn't his star RB he'd bench him in a heartbeat. It's what proved to be Meyer's undoing at Florida: different rules for different players. Hell Percy Harvin punched his freaking position coach and didn't get suspended because he could play.

A couple thoughts come to mind regarding this game (aside from me gleefully hoping for OSU to lose to Michigan).

1) MSU has a great football program going on. Not good. Great. Traditional powers want to spew the rhetoric of haves must be haves and have-nots must be have-nots. "It's good for football!" All of tOSU can't handle that MSU is as good or better than them. (Tangent incoming -tOSU and BTN will fight tooth and nail to keep a four team playoff, because if it goes to 8 teams, with automatic bids for the power 5, parity will become more rampant in CFB.)

2) Tim Beck is no Tom Herman.

Fair point about being consistent but what would they be benching him for? Telling the truth? They made him available to reporters so they can't have issue with him talking to the media.

I still think he should hold his players to a higher standard with the media. He should and likely will take responsibility but players should keep it in the locker room.

I can't argue Elliot should not have made the statements. But he said or did nothing that warrants discipline. Keep in mind the University made him available to speak with media. While speaking to the media he said nothing that was incorrect. Why should he face punishment?

I'm sure they could call it conduct detrimental to the team, the usual catch all for behavior issues.

Crazy thing is, Jim Miller called it on BTN, teams win. He basically said MSU plays for each other, they win. I guess the Buckeyes being anointed didn't work out so well. I hope Michigan kicks their ass.

I think a Mich win is a very good possibility after these crybabies "vented". Neither sees the field next week. See how Next Guy Up works for them. You know JH is going to use this all week with his team.

The fact that they made him available to reporters doesn't mean they can't have issues with what he says to them.

I suppose so; I just think it would come across as self serving if he did that. Keep it in-house and talk about the importance of not publicly airing dirty laundry.

Agreed. I have issues with what he said; but was he wrong? How do you tell someone the can speak with the media and then punish them for making factual statements? Statements you never said (assumption on my part) they could not make?

Our coaching staff cost the team big time with the way they managed the last 19 seconds against Michigan. That said, if a player had ripped Claeys for that the way the OSU player ripped Meyer, I would have been perfectly fine with Claeys punishing the player pretty severely, even though the player would have been making a correct statement about what happened.

That was light years different than what happened yesterday. We are talking about conference and national championships along with a heisman.

You really don't get it? Seriously?

So you're saying Leidner (arbitrary selection) should have gone on national television interviews and blasted Claeys and Limey for horrendous clock management at the end of the Michigan game, yes?

The accuracy of Elliot's comments is 100% irrelevant. He should have kept his mouth shut for the most part. Look, I think Meyer is the biggest jackass in the league and I enjoyed seeing him lose, but yes, airing your dirty laundry in public is completely unacceptable. Period. Elliott was wrong, wrong, wrong.

So I'm guessing this means you tell the Mrs that she's fat when she asks you?

You got me. I tell her not only is she fat; she is as ugly as a summer day is long.

Do me a favor, read everything I have wrote on the subject and tell me if you believe that I believe what you wrote.

Don't bother apologizing just forgive me when not if I put my foot in my mouth.

I would look at it from this perspective - was it good for the team for him to do that? I would argue absolutely not, so in that regard I do think it's punishable. Even if it's true, it's not good for the team. Keep that stuff internal.

I know if I went out and publicly criticized my boss there would be repercussions.

Who said discipline?

Agreed with what you said on the surface, but we also know Claeys held himself accountable and I think the players know this about him and the staff. There's a culture of accountability that starts at the top and I am guessing Meyer for better or worse has created a culture where players feel they can spout off the way to do. if Meyer doesn't hold himself accountable why would his players, or staff follow suit? Anyways meyer has lost three games Sparty twice and to Clemson. Only one in conference loss in four years. They should really quit bitching

...and Virginia Tech, but still a good point.

FWIW I liked Urban's response. Didn't just roll over, said that Elliot knows better and needs to pick the right time and place for those types of critiques.

I can't tell if you are actually this dense or just playing devil's advocate.

Deflecting are we? I can't argue against your point so I will call you names.

Cool, I will answer your question. Not dense at all. Please answer mine, what they bench/punish him for?

You really think a player ripping his coach's tactical decisions/game strategy to the media after a loss is fine or even acceptable? Did you tell your son to shred the coaching staff to the media after games?

No it's not fine; far from it. What would they be benching him for?

The coaches cost the team a conference and national championship. Elliot a heisman (all potentially of course). They then made him available to the press. He responded to questions. He told the truth. Why would he be suspended.

Meyer would never have done to Elliot what Elliot did to him. Elliot was completely wrong in my opinion. In my opinion he said nothing that rises to the level of suspension.

Please answer the question....what would they be suspending him for?

I'm not saying he should necessarily be suspended for a whole game (are others?). Maybe the public apology was enough.
