Iowa is like us. Happy if only 1 or 2 starters per year leave for money.

I don't think McCaffery will be more successful than Ben at that rate.

I agree. You take the all conference team from some of these lower level conferences and you have a pretty solid team. That's our job- find guys like Hawkins, Big Frank and Ken Evans who weren't 3 or 4 stars but really came on strong in a small conference.

Old prejudice doesn't die easily. Part of that is due to people not thinking based on empirical discovery. I've scoured the portal on almost a daily basis over the last three offseasons. I've lost track of how many lower and unrated players who did very well playing in college and how many highly rated players never lived up to their expectations coming from high school. I also think some people see athletes not as people who are capable of continuous development but as static quantities whose characteristics are fixed and determinable by the time they received a rating in high school from some imperfect online source.

My original comment was actually not sarcastic. I’ve said more than once that I’d rather have a roster full of small school standouts

Yep, it has gotten a little less crazy as more and more people have realized that the recruiting rankings are not the end all be all when it comes to players.

Some players develop later, some never do.

I'm sorry then if I misjudged your comment. I've read so many cookie cutter disparaging comments over the years about recruits like this that maybe I jumped to conclusions.

Head coach is a position. Every team has one. They have a set of responsibilities, including recruiting and portal acquisition. Great coach is a description that means little once teams are assembled.

Well would 1/4 of the players be out of eligibility so not able to be considered a transfer. Still 3/4 of 4500 is higher than the other person quoted

That would be my guess as well since that post was very close to when Jaxon Howard committed to the U but would be interesting to know if that was really what he was hinting at or if there was something else.....or if he knew nothing at all and was just tossing crap out there for the hell of it. :)
