I'

l'll take him! Ben coached the turnovers out of Hawk to some degree. Let's go!
With his 3pt% and size, this sounds like Christie insurance.

Absolute fire if they both end up here next year 😳

I watched a couple JSU games and the guy can get a bucket. Pretty tough defender too
When I've watched the SWAC I've always felt the defenses seem light years ahead of the offense... Might be because they have really good defenders, OR maybe they just don't have scorers.

Jeff Goodman said the other day there would be more portal additions when people finished collecting their NIL at their schools, wonder if Chucky is done bleeding the Badgers dry.
Yes, yes, yes. Totally forgot. Thanks.

It's been a rough couple of weeks for the Badgers....

Sad to admit, but our neighbors to the east are more like us than we care to admit. My guess is their people are not much more hip on paying players out of their hard earned dollars than we are. A source very close to Badger program told me last year that the system “unsustainable” and it’s worse now.

Had to watch some stuff on him.. I'd certainly welcome him

However I believe he would want assurances he starts... Only way we sign him is of christy is gone IMHO... But I would like this signing alot more than Mitchell
.

Definitely a combination of both, but the defense more than the offense. Their coach is former Twolf Mo Williams btw

I think he could play with Christie and Hawkins easily. With a guy like this I could see times when you have 4 guards our there with Big Frank or Garcia. I just don't think you have a problem getting a guy like this plenty of playing time. We could have really used him last year...a guy that can slash to the bucket like that might have made that team a 12 win Big Ten team.

If he is interested I think this one is an easy sell. We have no one that does what he does and if Christie goes pro- that's the spot we are looking at him for. If Christie doesn't go pro, he plays alongside of him and we have a chance to have a great team.

Possible lineups
Garcia, Evans, Christie, Mike Mitchell, Hawkins
Big Mitch, Garcia, Evans, Christie, Hawkins

With a big guard that can slash and board like this kid you have a ton of flexibility and a pretty nice bench in Asuma, Betts, Grove + 6th man from either of those lineups.

This is exactly the type of player we need!
Let's go Ken!!

I'm sure CBJ is telling him there's a chance he could start with Christie staying in the draft . Either way, he'd have a prominent role on a team that'll be returning the majority of it's starters in the B1G

Agreed he could be telling him he could start with Christie staying in the draft, but he should also be telling him that he could also start alongside Christie next year. Why? I'm not an expert here, just having watched a bit of film on him, but other than having a low field goal % (40%) these are reasons:
  • SWAC player of the year
  • 39% 3pt shooter
  • 25 points 10 boards against Gonzaga last year
  • Great size 6'5 and a slasher, both things we could really use
And I don't know what kind of $ we have to offer, but you would think that a really good 3 pt shooter would be happy to play with someone 2nd in the country in assists last year.

He would be a great fit..

100% right! This is the guy I want. Vince Grier with a better jump shot!

looks like Vlad Goldin may be headed to Michigan. Frank Mitchell is nice but the conference is getting some pretty dominant 7 footers

You don't have to go back very far to see what a big-time coach hiring can do to invigorate the fan base. I remember when Tubby was hired in 2007. The excitement was real. I remember going out and buying my "Tubby Time" t-shirt immediately. Barn was rocking again. If NIL was in place at that time, we would have had plenty of $$$$ in the bank.
Yeah a big-time splash hire might ignite the fan-base for a while.

But I was talking about the rich boosters. Or just the general idea that it makes sense to get the players first before winning big.

Getting good players is the measurement of a coach. He is good or bad depending on the talent.

Johnson's tenure at Minnesota depends solely on portal acquisition right now.
But it's not Johnson who buys the players.

It's the head coach who attracts players to the program, with or without the amount of payroll other teams have. So far he has attracted Battle, Garcia, Christie, Fox, Hawkins, Mitchell and Michell, plus some decent small school guys the first year.

The AD will judge him based on record within the circumstances. Not on a specific number of wins, tournament appearances, or rankings. If he can recruit talent with resources available better than what the AD thinks a new coach would do, he stays.

He will not be compared to what the top echelon coaches in the country are doing. They are in good programs and have much more in resources. Not comparable.

Jeff Goodman said the other day there would be more portal additions when people finished collecting their NIL at their schools, wonder if Chucky is done bleeding the Badgers dry.
Sarcasm alert: Greg Gard's lack of head coaching experience must be catching up to him. Can't keep his team together!

I have to imagine West Virginia has some NIL to throw around; that will be hard to compete with.
At some point it’s also gotta be about the best chance at winning when it gets late into their careers.

MN isn’t a blue blood but we’ve shown improvement and the core is mostly intact. WVU was 9-23 this year and lost 3 guys that play major minutes.

If we can offer some sort of NIL with 20+ minutes a game and a real shot at a fun, tournament season I think we got a chance

Why? WV isn't exactly known as a school of wealth or big alum. Seems similar to us.
A new coach who has had success at a mid/ low major, and one of the best transfers in America. Depending on if they gave DeVries any NIL $, they could have a lot to offer

Underwood & Woodson's great coaching is what's attracting the best players??
