Get him before Illinois, Indiana, MIchigan, or Wisconsin (among others) does. Pretty sure all 4 of those might be interested in taking a swing at him.

Not a great 3-point shooter, but an experienced lead guard, defensive stud, and can get to the rack. Let's not find reasons not to go after him, swing big. ... maybe he wants to stay in the Big Ten and stick it to Izzo?
Garcia, Christie (he'll be back), and Hoggard would be an upper Big Ten level big/wing/PG combination.
Starting point would be some of Hawkins' money.need the $$$$

Like I said, at least take a swing. I hope to see Minnesota on the inevitable list of schools that reached out to him.
Good question.Would Ben go after an Izzo guy?
My father (a staunch MSU alum) agrees. He (nor I) can't figure out why Izzo didn't push hard for Payne. He's exactly what they need, a good post that scouting reports have to account for on both ends, especially on the glass. At this point it appears Izzo is going to ride it out with Cooper (more defense) & Kohler (more offense) tandem.I wondered why Izzo didn’t go after Payne? Seems like it would have been a good fit.. IMO
He was the third best guard at New Mexico. Guessing he is hoping to be the man.

Not sure. Just thinking through, Izzo does have long history (going back several decades) knowing Ben and Thorson. Eveidence would suggest he respects the methods. My father (a staunch MSU alum) agrees. He (nor I) can't figure out why Izzo didn't push hard for Payne. He landed at a pretty good small school program. I guess having 5 stars next to your name coming out of high school will give you opportunities for some time even if you haven't shown anything.
I want to believe this. Do you have some inside info?Get him before Illinois, Indiana, MIchigan, or Wisconsin (among others) does. Pretty sure all 4 of those might be interested in taking a swing at him.

Ball-Handling 101Mlo
Payne has ball-handling issues.
Payne is an excellent in the paint scoring threat, but ball handling and ball distribution skills need improvement.
They haven’t really won anything with him playing such a ball heavy role. They need to alter their style to maintain the IZZO excellence.Get him before Illinois, Indiana, MIchigan, or Wisconsin (among others) does. Pretty sure all 4 of those might be interested in taking a swing at him.

I don't disagree with you. Hoggard moving on was best for both parties. They haven’t really won anything with him playing such a ball heavy role. They need to alter their style to maintain the IZZO excellence.
If we can't keep Payne & Hawkins...what makes you think we can keep Garcia & Christie? Or get Hoggard?Garcia, Christie (he'll be back), and Hoggard would be an upper Big Ten level big/wing/PG combination.
I mean we kept Garcia and Christie comes back if he doesn’t like his current draft stock. Sooo your point is?If we can't keep Payne & Hawkins...what makes you think we can keep Garcia & Christie? Or get Hoggard?
The CBJ experience and the IZZO experience are two things. He would be needed here as beggars can’t be choosers…MSU can have their choices.I don't disagree with you. Hoggard moving on was best for both parties.
That said, would you take Hoggard as the Gophers' primary PG next season? I know I would, despite the fact he was a frustratingly inconsistent player for MSU. He would offer some things Hawkins couldn't.
You should be stripped, greased...and forced to run backwards through a cornfield. The CBJ experience and the IZZO experience are two things. He would be needed here as beggars can’t be choosers…MSU can have their choices.
He might not like that.
JOJ is going to have a lot of competition for playing time...
I also had the thought that Mark Madsen is mining his MN Timberwolves roots in recruiting a couple of Minnesota kids. MN to Cal pipeline being laid.BJ Omot is going there too. JOJ might be at Long Beach next season
He’s a brave and confident man taking that job. Cal might be one of the few public universities in the country with less concern for sports than our beloved university.I also had the thought that Mark Madsen is mining his MN Timberwolves roots in recruiting a couple of Minnesota kids.
