1. would you trade our success with Indiana and Wake Forest?
2. you're right, we should just take recruits away from Ohio State and Michigan.
You get what you get - we are very successful considering what we have to choose from considering our instate 'talent' and facilities. In a couple years we will be on par with the bottom third of the Big10 and can maybe compete with the powerhouses you reference. This site is getting just ridiculous with people thinking we will ever be one of the top programs in the conference. Be happy with bowl games or go star f*ck with a different program. I mean our program had to stick its tail between its legs and go back on a ticket increase because our lame-ass fans couldn't handle it. People here continually hypothesize why the Gophers aren't more successful and they tend to blame the administration - most of the blame lands squarely on the fans. We are not eager enough - or wealthy enough - to support a winner. If we demanded it financially, it would happen. The University of Minnesota is an AMAZING institution that can compete nationally in any respect for which it is supported.
I already know the hate this post will illicit. I am as much part of the problem as anyone - I don't give any money to the program...but I don't expect them to be better than 6-6 every year. You get what you deserve as a fanbase. We are mediocre and so is our team.
What a pathetic attitude. If Minnesota is an "AMAZING" institution like you say (which is about the only thing I agree with) why on Earth should fans be satisfied with a program that is light years away from Iowa much less Wisconsin over the past 20-30 years? Telling people to be happy with crappy results is embarrassing. Someone posted in this thread that Minnesota has an average Rivals class rank of 58 over the past 5 years....there are only 65 Power 5 schools. That's certainly fair game for criticism. Blaming the fans for the ticket increase being revoked...are you serious? Have another program go 50 some odd years between conference titles and be on a TWELVE game losing streak to its biggest rival and see who shows up.
There aren't enough people who "don't expect better than 6-6" and will be happy with "bowl games" to fill any power 5 school stadium in the country. Go do the research on attendance at Camp Randall before Barry Alvarez took them to the Rose Bowl or Iowa football attendance which was down significantly and they were calling for the head of Ferentz or attendance at Northwestern.
