Claudin Cherelus Commits to Gophers!

1. would you trade our success with Indiana and Wake Forest?
2. you're right, we should just take recruits away from Ohio State and Michigan.

You get what you get - we are very successful considering what we have to choose from considering our instate 'talent' and facilities. In a couple years we will be on par with the bottom third of the Big10 and can maybe compete with the powerhouses you reference. This site is getting just ridiculous with people thinking we will ever be one of the top programs in the conference. Be happy with bowl games or go star f*ck with a different program. I mean our program had to stick its tail between its legs and go back on a ticket increase because our lame-ass fans couldn't handle it. People here continually hypothesize why the Gophers aren't more successful and they tend to blame the administration - most of the blame lands squarely on the fans. We are not eager enough - or wealthy enough - to support a winner. If we demanded it financially, it would happen. The University of Minnesota is an AMAZING institution that can compete nationally in any respect for which it is supported.

I already know the hate this post will illicit. I am as much part of the problem as anyone - I don't give any money to the program...but I don't expect them to be better than 6-6 every year. You get what you deserve as a fanbase. We are mediocre and so is our team.

What a pathetic attitude. If Minnesota is an "AMAZING" institution like you say (which is about the only thing I agree with) why on Earth should fans be satisfied with a program that is light years away from Iowa much less Wisconsin over the past 20-30 years? Telling people to be happy with crappy results is embarrassing. Someone posted in this thread that Minnesota has an average Rivals class rank of 58 over the past 5 years....there are only 65 Power 5 schools. That's certainly fair game for criticism. Blaming the fans for the ticket increase being revoked...are you serious? Have another program go 50 some odd years between conference titles and be on a TWELVE game losing streak to its biggest rival and see who shows up.

There aren't enough people who "don't expect better than 6-6" and will be happy with "bowl games" to fill any power 5 school stadium in the country. Go do the research on attendance at Camp Randall before Barry Alvarez took them to the Rose Bowl or Iowa football attendance which was down significantly and they were calling for the head of Ferentz or attendance at Northwestern.

Wow. I'd like to offer a sincere apology to Claudin, his family, and any of his friends that may have visited this board to read about his commitment.

Ski-U-Mah Claudin. I'm really looking forward to seeing you in Maroon and Gold.

+1. We often have better players than fans.

I expect Claudin will be a Gopher star. Either safety or OLB won't matter.

Regardless of "stars" by recruiting services, this team is getting stacked.

So you think we should just be happy with being one of the worst power 5 programs in the country? That's what gets fans excited? Forget trying to have success like Ohio State or Michigan, we shouldn't even strive to be as good as Iowa or Wisconsin? Just when I thought some posters couldn't get any dumber.

Grading recruiting classes requires more metrics than just the ranking of a few websites. If you only look at that ranking, you will draw illogical conclusions.

It's like judging the size of an elephant by only examining its tail.

There probably is a correlation between tail size and trunk size on an elephant. Just like there is without a doubt a correlation between class rankings on these websites and winning. You can ignore the facts or you can realize that there is no consistent winners that have rosters full of poorly ranked classes. Power5 teams that find themselves finishing in the top 25 will have at least one top 25 recruiting class on the roster most of the time. I don't know how people keep arguing this when you can just look up the results.

Don't belittle them by implying they would actually be offended by a conversation on a message board

How many ACC titles does Wake Forest have in my lifetime?

I'll give you a hint. Infinitely more than the gophers.

To be serious. I'm not saying we should be outrecruiting Ohio state. I'm not saying I'd like to change places with Indiana.
I'm saying it is pretty unusual for coaches to openly say they don't like to compete in recruiting.

Dammit, I thought I was part of the solution. Now I realize once again, I the fan, am responsible for decades of sucky football. Thanks for reminding me it's all my fault for not loving 3-5 wins a year.

The Gophers can't win ACC titles so that's a trick question!

No - But you are responsible for a your negative attitude.

Well boys and girls we will see what 60 rank classes bring to the Gophers down the road.
Period, end of story

Well, I'd say we are doing a decent job of finding sleepers, but we can agree we need more talent. I think once we get a couple 8+ win seasons under our belt we can up the talent that we recruit. That, in conjunction with finding those under the radar guys, should help us to climb the B1G ladder some. I don't think that we can improve significantly and be consistent just by finding those diamonds in the rough.

Coached won't change their recruiting style if they start winning. HS coaches and recruits might change.

As the Wren said for decades Conference W/L record is the only metric that counts.
