Buffalo Wild Wings at Station 19 now open!

Speaking of wings, I was a huge fan of Buffs Pub in Newton, MA when I lived out there. Any suggestions for wings in Chicago? From what I can tell thus far the city seems to be lacking in serious wing choices, but I haven't really been looking that hard.

I know what you mean... REALLY hard to find good wings in the Midwest, but in Chicago, I had good luck with Finn McCool's. It's not going to match a wing back east, but it'll do.

Damn! Now I'm hungry... I think I need to go find some wings!

It really stinks that a unique bar didn't move in to this location. Too bad.

Perhaps only a chain could afford the rent seeing as how it's next to all the major sports venues at the U. Plus aren't they a big sponsor of the Big Ten Network?

Not a traditional wing, because it isn't fried, but in Golden Valley the Doolittles Woodfire Grill makes wings over, you guessed it, a wood fire and they are amazing.

What was the wing place in Dinkytown on 14th Ave off 4th street that was open in the 90's? Was it a BW3 or something else? It had a 2nd floor balcony type thing...

In its early days, with was called BW3. I saw Russ Archambault get tossed through a window there.

Later, it became Dub's and in the basement, The Gopherhole. The ownership ran into trouble serving to minors.

Their TV sets were always broken in some fashion. I recall the pitchers of Summit were cheap though. Not all bad.

I remember seeing Charles Thomas getting wasted there...

It was about 1996 or 1997, maybe late 1995 when I hung out there. I thought it was called BW3 or Dubs...but it was not the BWW chain we know today...

In the summer of 94, I was hangin' with girl who was a spokes-model for Augsburger Beer, an "Augie Girl". Wednesday night was Wing night and that was they day the Augie Girls shilled their product in skimpy outfits. It worked out well for me, as I enjoyed free beer and wings and went home with that same lovely lady each night.

It was BW3 then. I don't recall when they changed to Dub's, but I seem to recall that switch happening around 98 or 99.

There are actually delicious Buffalo Wings at Point's East Pub in Milwaukee. I was shocked. The owner of the bar was recently busted for child pornography, but the wings have not suffered.

The best wings that I have eaten in the Twin Cities are Al Baker's near Yankee Doodle Road/35E in Eagan. They may not compare to the best in Chicago or out East but I always go there when I need a wing fix. I wouldn't eat at BWW for free.

BW3/Dub's is now Blarney which also owns the old Dinkytowner location (directly underneath). They were busted a few years ago for serving the Men's Hockey team--including minors. They have bounced back pretty well and seem to be doing pretty good business.

Remember when Fowl Play was there too. $1.50 anything in the bar, including pitchers of Long Islands...

I'm still curious to know why/how people think the wings are so bad at B-Dub's..

Anyone?

Of course, there was the Australian themed "Pub Down Under" you are all omitting. Loved when Mariucci would issue "Pass out receipts" so we could all go to the bar.

I don't think you're far off. This is what I heard too from the owner of another stadium village bar.

It's a chain chicken-wing restaurant. It's not great, it's not terrible...it's somewhere in-between. Nothing to fuss over.

Buffalo Wild Wings has annoyingly bad advertisements.

Furthermore, I'd rather eat chicken strips than wings. More meat, no sticky crud all over your fingers.

These are just personal views. In fact, I'm sure BWW has some variety of tasty chicken strips/fingers.

Meh... I'd rather have a football party at home with my own friends, TV, and steeply discounted food/beverages.

Umm...Foul Stench was down the block where the Library is currently located. Unless it occupied this space before my time--mid to late 90's.

I meant in the area down 4th st. Its the Library Bar now I think. It was a good 1-2 punch back in the day...

Does anybody know if they are using the entire building? I remember Sparky's used the basement and upstairs.

They have the kitchen in the basement, seating in the main level and the office is still occupying the upper level.

Wings are much better than strips. Wings and legs are made of the best part of the chicken by far, dark meat. White meat is dry, dull and relatively flavorless. Chicken strips are for kids menus. :D Eat whatever you like, of course.

Well stated, R. Rampage. Dr. Lloyd Christmas spoke to this topic in another thread:

Have you ever had good wings? For the most part, good wings are quite hard to find in MN. Most places will either put breading on them, have terrible Buffalo sauce, try to pretend that teriyaki is a valid wing flavor or serve wings without the proper meat/bone/skin ratio, i.e. too small or too big. There were more good wing places in tiny State College than all the TC metro area and maybe all of MN.

BWW has horrible sauce(s), and the wings are oddly proportioned. After the wing discussion, I headed over to Stadium Village after work and opted for Stub & Herbs. While not amazing, they made a decent wing and it satisfied my craving.

I disagree wholly with the terrible sauces. I like my wings extremely hot and many places around the U have 1. BBQ and 2. Buffalo. Both of which suck. My one beef with BWW is that their wings are small. Mango habanero is the best.

With the Vikings game this Monday, it looks like BWW opened just in time!

BWW should change its name to Crazy Flavored Chicken Wings, as things like Mango Habanero, Parm Garlic, and Asian Zing are not Buffalo wings. Come to think of it, that last one is what Kelly Leeks requests at Madam Lin's House of Fantasy every Friday night. Madam Lin might have a copyright fight on her hands with the folks at BWW.

Since the Hole has had a lively debate on the subject recently, I'd just like to say that judging a piece of the chicken based solely on color is ignorant.

Just checked out the place last night.. looks like just another fun (and extremely close) hangout on gamedays. The TVs and the memorabilia are pretty impressive, as is the tap beer selection (which awesomely includes Grainbelt Northeast) and patio space out front.

Not too shabby...

Nobody can touch Stubs tap selection. Not just in Stadium Village, but probably in Minnesota.

They have Northeast? Full of win. Love that beer...
