University of Minnesota quarterback Max Brosmer was named to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2024 today. The class consists of 35 standout quarterbacks and is the starting point for the Davey O'Brien Foundation as it selects its winner for the Davey O'Brien Award.

The award is presented annually to the collegiate American football player judged by the Davey O'Brien Foundation to be the best of all National Collegiate Athletic Association quarterbacks. It is the nation's oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The winner of the award will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 12.

Brosmer is one of six Big Ten quarterbacks on the list of 35 and has led the Gophers to a 5-3 record (3-2 Big Ten) in his first year in Maroon and Gold.

In eight games, Brosmer has completed 169-of-243 passes (69.5% completion percentage) for 1,776 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has also rushed for four touchdowns this season.

He led Minnesota to a 48-23 victory against Maryland in his most recent performance. In that game, Brosmer completed 26-of-33 passes (78.8 percent) for season-highs of 320 yards and four touchdowns against the Terrapins. He was the first Gopher with four or more passing touchdowns since Tanner Morgan had four at Northwestern on Nov. 23, 2019. His 320 passing yards rank 32nd in program history and are the most since Morgan threw for 368 yards at Iowa in 2019.

Brosmer and the Gophers return to action at Illinoi on Saturday, Nov. 2. Minnesota's next home game is Saturday, Nov. 23 against Penn State.

Thanks.

Do you or anyone else know if/when this happened last?

No Greek rifle?

We kind of laugh about AK’s Wild Thing accuracy but I saw a blurb 2023 #4 draft pick Anthony Richardson (who shared AK’s less than stellar ~54% completion rate in college) was benched by the Colts after going all of 44% in his starts this year which has to be a borderline record. Checked his pre-draft scouting report and you could switch the names out. Paraphrasing “yeah he is inaccurate. But I can fix it”. Can accuracy be fixed? I’ve never seen it.

Josh Allen's pro stats are a lot better than his college stats.

You’re right, up to 63% from 56%. Not bad. Did he fix his footwork, make better decisions, have better receivers than Wyoming, better protection, or all of the above?

I have no idea ... One of life's greatest mysteries.

I recall remembering seeing a clip about his throwing platform... In college, it was more horizontal, and through coaching at the NFL level it's more of a typical over the top release. And I think an improvement in footwork was mentioned as well.

He’s an interesting case if he was truly a late bloomer as an accurate thrower based purely on improvements in motion. TBH I believe I saw him play once in college and never in the NFL, don’t really follow the NFL in recent years. I went to the world authority on football, fan Reddit/NFL, for some insight. Various theories mentioned everything from Jordan Palmer mechanics work to better WRs but definitely an outlier.

“Josh Allen is the new "You Never Know" QB that is going to get a lot of head coaches and GMs fired over the next 20 years.”

“Allen's improvement is truly unbelievable. Nearly all of his flaws immediately went away in year 3.”
