Brewster the Recruiter

Backer Packer

Golfing Gopher is another one of these Packer Backers from scony.

The anti Brew guys are trying to help the program long term by ridding ourselves of this big phony who can't coach a lick. he sucks.

We have guaranteed that we will have the same B10 record or better than last year, despite a more difficult B10 schedule. I am not happy with everything I have seen this year, but the jury is still out on Brewster.

Gopher Pops:

Thanks for the inside info on the recruiting process. Believe me, the Gopher Nation is very happy that your family chose Minnesota!!
I agree that Brewster is doing a good job. He has had a couple of restarts with the coaching changes and his first head coaching job, but he has is going in the right direction and once they settle in with his staff they should be a force in the Big Ten.

Don't get discouraged by the negative talk from a lot of the posters, these message boards turn into a place were fans vent and blow off steam about the team. And of course, most of the poster don't know JACK about what they are talking about, much of it is based upon gossip or random insane thoughts.

The information in your post and the updates on the recruits and such is why I follow these message boards. It is too bad you have to surf through all of the babbling and bickering in order to find it. I guess it is a generational change, I just don't see the value in posting my "brain farts" for the whole world to see.

My new favorite poster

some were stiff and uncomfortable in my modest home

some talked about the team the town not the education

some assumed that a 17 year old kid was going to make a life decision by himself..

some assumed that he was a typical kid with no father in the home and asked to speak to his mother..

Minnesota sent more than one recruiter... and they came at different times...

all of them ate dinner at my house....

when they came they talked to the whole family and answered questions truthfully

they did not lie about any thing most importantly

did not sell false hope

sent personal things before every game... good luck cards

showed real interest in what was happening in his high school career

knew how he was doing in class

knew how he performed in the game with intimate details

Tim Brewster himself came for a visit.

had a meeting with all of the women in the family

had a meeting with all the men in the family

had a meeting with my son and myself

had a meting with myself and my pastor

had a meeting with me alone..

sent recruiters down one more time adorned with N C A A championship rings and super bowl rings
to match my peach bowl ring....

so yeah i would say they did some things that other recruiters from other schools did not do...

and i am a Brewster fan and will not apologize for it..

This fan base accuse Brewster of selling sizzle

What he sells is honesty and enthusiasm ....

going through the recruiting process i can not tell you how many B.S artist are out there that will try to sell a kid and his parents a bunch of crap that they know they are lying about..

as far as developing players trust me when i tell you this the kid i coached the kid i watched grow up the kid i thought was dayumn good who was a star from pee wee league to middle school to high school is not the same kid i sent to Minnesota.. he is unbelievable now and he is just in his second year... what will he be 2 or three years down the road..

personally all you fire Brewster people i hope you fail miserably

Is it strange that I just spent the last ten minutes of my life reading all of GopherPops postings?
Love him and his coniviction. Whomever his son is has a hell of a dad.

My new favorite poster. You have made me become an even bigger fan of Brewster. i love it.

J.D. Pride isn't even the best player on his high school team. What a joke. Unless he is out of position and has a better spot for college, I doubt he'll see the field as a qb.

Did you see Brew giving a pep talk to all the seniors before the SDSU game? He was really firing them up, he thought. He was dad gum hot chilli talkin' to those boys and they came out and laid the biggest egg since Gutey.

arent the majority of the seniors on defense? not sure but if i remember that game correctly sdsu didnt do anything all game! 229 total yards and 4 turnovers doesnt sound like success to me! the offense killed us that game so your comments dont carry any weight-next time when you bring your anti-brew comments have some facts to go with it otherwise you just sound like some bitter clown!

Agreed. As someone who was never a college football recruit. The only knowledge of how it works comes from what I read here. Incredible insight from another perspective.

Brewster's always been billed as a hard worker. If he follows that formula for all of the recruits he's after that is a lot of hours of work. Hopefully it'll start to pay off soon.

I've always been intrigued at what happens during recruiting visits. I was recruited in hockey for about 10 minutes and it constituted a conversation after a couple games from John Harrington and some coach from Augsburg only to never hear from them again.

Reading how great Brewster is behind closed doors makes me even more excited in my belief that he will eventually take us to new hights.

thats one hell of a post. glad pops shared that to the "hole". I usually dont post, but just continue to support and believe in the program after reading all the negativity surrounding it at times. I love the personal experience shared by gopherpops and hopes he continues to share info to us long after his son graduates from the U. thanks again pops.

My college recruiting was a phone call, but I only played D3 :).

Brewster claims to be a great recruiter, but that is really not even important. Minnesota will never load up with 4 or 5 star recruits. It is coaching, desire and discipline that matters. Brewster is terriable at all three. I would rather have a motivated well coached team like the JackRabits than a bunch of bremadonas that that could careless.

You sir are an idiot. Recruiting is the only way you compete with the big boys and our talent gap over the years has been huge. It is finally narrowing with Brewster at the helm.

Recruiting does not matter if you can't coach the talent you bring in. Our coaching staff SUCKS at improving talent so he has a very valid point. Athleticism only gets you so far on the field.

yeah, Decker really sucks, Lee Campbell and Nate Triplett were Soooo good under the previous coach.

Do you know anything about what you are talking about?

When Henderson and Corey Nelson sign and Chris Hawkins is upgraded to a 4 star will you all be satisfied?

I was already satisfied. This would bring that up a notch. Maybe all the way up to "more than satisfied." Now if we get SH I'll have to bring that all the way up to "that's not too darn bad then".

Satisfied...

When Henderson and Corey Nelson sign and Chris Hawkins is upgraded to a 4 star will you all be satisfied?

I'll be satisfied when Brew's recruits win a rival game...until then it's just more hope, and you can't bank on hope.

Bank, you give me a team of ave. to above average kids with heart and determination and coaching and I'll win more times than not against a team of talented premadonnas, no matter who their coach is.

This is a nice theory and in a perfect world would be the way things are, but alas they are not.

Of course a team of highly talented kids with heart and determination would kick your ass, severely.

There are some great athletes who are lazy, but that is the exception. Most got that way because of honing their great athleticism with hard work and detemination. The freaks are few and far between.
