Yes, Coach Wacker became a great recruiter once Mason took over. (?) You can usually tell a better coach when he takes over and the team wins more games. In fact, isn't that what you normally look for in a coach? Indeed, wasn't that one of the claims made at the time of the coaching change, "anyone could coach better than Mason"? I seem to recall that.

I don't recall hearing that from anyone who knew anything about Gopher football. Mason's biggest weakness was his ability to recruit, especially defense. If he brought in some talent on the defensive side, we could have been very good. But he didn't and our defense was very bad most of the time he was the coach.
