Daniel Dubois wins on 5th round KO over Anthony Joshua for the IBF Heavyweight title. (the IBF belt was vacated when Oleksandr Usyk chose to fight Tyson Fury instead of Dubois, who was the IBF mandatory challenger.)

--Richard Torrez Jr. defeated Joey Dawejko by fifth-round DQ in a heavyweight bout. (Dawejko disqualified for repeatedly spitting out his mouth guard...)
--Emiliano Vargas defeated Larry Fryers by TKO in the 5th round in a junior welterweight bout
 

on Saturday, there was a unification fight in the Light Heavyweight division, with Artur Beterbiev (WBC, WBO & IBF Champ) vs Dmitry Bivol (WBA champ). Beterbiev becomes the undisputed champion on a majority decision. one judge had it a draw, the other two gave Beterbiev the decision - 115-113 and 116-112. (onlookers thought the 116-112 score was off-base. I would have given it to Bivol.)

Bivol seemed to control the early rounds with his jab and counter-punching. Beterbiev landed heavier shots and did come on late in the fight. for Bivol, the first loss of his career. for Beterbiev, his first fight that did not end in a KO.

in the undercard:
**Fabio Wardley won by 1st round KO over Frazer Clarke for the British Heavyweight title.
**Jai Opetaia wins 6th round TKO over Jack Massey for the IBF Cruiserweight title
**Chris Eubank Jr. wins 7th round TKO over Kamil Szeremeta at Middleweight.
**Skye Nicolson wins unanimous decision over Raven Chapman for WBC Women's Featherweight title.
**and this has to be seen to be believed - Light Heavyweights Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron were in the 7th round when the two got tangled up and somehow flipped up and over the ropes and out of the ring. Whittaker left the arena in a wheelchair. the fight was ruled a draw.

coming up - if you consider this a valid fight - Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul in November. and Oleksandr Usky vs Tyson Fury in their Heavyweight rematch in December.
 

apparently it was a bigger farce than I expected.

Jake Paul defeats Mike Tyson by unanimous decision. according to the guy doing live updates for ESPN, in the final round, (quoting) "the crowd was showering the ring with boos." His card had Paul winning every round. Tyson only landed something like 20 punches in 8 (2-minute) rounds.

Shadasia Green def. Melinda Watpool via split decision (97-93, 94-96, 96-94). Green claims WBO women's Super Middleweight Title.

Lucas Bahdi def. Armando Casamonica via majority decision (95-95, 96-93, 98-92) - lightweight

Bruce "Shu Shu" Carrington Jr. def. Dana Coolwell via unanimous decision (80-70, 80-70, 80-70) -featherweight

Just watched the fight. Hopefully that is my first and last ever exposure to the Paul Family.
 


The real loser was Netflix. What a complete joke that was. Of course they probably made many millions, but the event itself was amazingly bad.
 

I watched but could only do so on my phone as the TV just kept buffering.
The fight was good for the first 30 to 45 seconds when Tyson tried to actually punch some. After that the rest was awful and the announcers were even worse.
 



Fully scripted to last all eight (8) rounds, IMO. Disgraceful showing for whatever is left of the sport of boxing.

On top of that, the Serrano debacle of a decision did the sport no favors, either.

It's easy to see why MMA has made boxing irrelevant.
 

forgot to add this in my earlier post - I don't have Netflix, so I was sort of following the action based on websites doing "live" updates. checked several different sites and every place I checked, the one thing everyone agreed upon was that the judging was spooky all night. a lot of complaints about the decisions in both women's fights, and at least one of the men's fights.

as a boxing fan, I know that judging can vary, and I've seen some atrocious decisions over the years, but this sounds as if it might have been worse than average. all in all, a bad night for boxing.

Let's hope that Fury - Usyk part II gives the sport a better showcase.
 


Jake Paul was not killed in the ring.

Ergo, the match was a failure.

What a shit show, I'm angry I watched it. I was with some fun people so that made it bearable.

Paul didn't go as hard as he could.

I think that's good, no reason to hurt Tyson, the payday is the same either way.

Paul organized a great con job, $60 million worth.

That's America today, a bunch of suckers, myself included...
