Bowl Projections Megathread

None of these matchups (including texas tech) are terribly interesting to me, but on the bright side I see a lot of teams we could beat up pretty good. That could actually be fun to watch.

True, and I like how diversified the pool of options has potentially gotten.

I'd have a personal interest in seeing us play BC, as that's a school right down the road from here and so therein lies that kind inherent interest as they're pretty much the king of the castle so far as FBS football in New England goes (but you go U-Maine Black Bears, 10-2, outstanding and brilliantly coached champions the Colonial Athletic, and headed to the FCS playoffs tomorrow), but anyhow, I wouldn't exactly assume Boston College a rollover, as they played both #8 Florida State and #3 Clemson (both respectively ranked at the time) on the road very, very hard.

I think they'd probably give us a good test, which is what I'd most love to see.

BC has something Syracuse and Pitt don't: a likely Heisman finalist. For that reason, I don't think BC would slip past all of the ACC bowls - the Independence has already hinted at taking them. The Military Bowl has flat-out said they're taking Maryland if the Terps are on the board, so that would narrow things on the ACC side.

Good point. It is difficult if not impossible to ignore a back which ran for 2100+ yards on the season and might have cracked the 2300 yard barrier had he not been knocked out of the season ending game so early at Syracuse. Andre Williams is a true beast and will (and should) probably be in the top three finalists for the Heisman Trophy.

Seany, to answer your earlier question, we have never played BC.

I actually would enjoy playing Pitt as it would match up the two finalists in the Brewster replacement search. We could pound them and further validate the selection of Kill over Chryst.

Well Oklahoma St. losing means we will be playing a Big 12 team for sure, doesn't it? Ugh, Texas Tech again.

Pasadena resident checking in here. I just won the resident lottery and bought tickets for the Rose Bowl game and the National Championship game.

I plan on selling them on StubHub.

Who should I be cheering for today to drive up the price of the tickets for each game? I was thinking MSU-ASU for the Rose Bowl and OSU-FSU for the BCS...but you guys probably have a better idea than me.

I just want to know who to cheer for! :)

Or could Oklahoma St. still get a BCS spot even with their loss? I imagine they will still be in the top 14.

I think it is more likely that OU ends up in the BCS, which I think there is a pretty decent chance will happen.

assuming Baylor beats texas and goes to the Fiesta bowl Oklahoma and Oklahoma state are both 10-2, assuming they will both be top 14(big if) they will be competing against 10-2 Clemson, 10-2 Oregon and 10-2 South Carolina to get a BCS at large, do you guys have an idea of who would get it of it is one those teams with those records?

The author has "a ton of respect" for what Mike Riley does at Oregon State. So much respect, that he can't spell Riley's name correctly.

Reminds me of a Sid soundbite I heard last week on cco.

Sid: "He's a close personal friend. I've talked to him several times. How do you pronounce his name again?"

South Carolina has no shot. Only two teams from the SEC can receive BCS bids. This will almost certainly be Alabama and the Mizzou/Auburn winner.

I could be wrong, but doesn't South Carolina have no chance because the SEC will have two others already in BCS bowls? Auburn or Missouri and Alabama are pretty much guaranteed a spot. Unless the rule has changed, only two from a conference can participate.

South Carolina is not in the running for an at-large since the SEC cannot have more than two teams in the BCS and Alabama is a slam dunk at-large.

Oklahoma will definitely move into the top 15 - whether they get that one more spot necessary might depend on how far the Pac-12 Championship loser drops. Also, Baylor could fall if they lose to Texas.

If the Sooners rise into the top 14, it will be them, Okie State, Clemson and Oregon battling for two BCS bids. The Orange, by most accounts, plans to honor its agreement with the ACC and take Clemson. What the Sugar Bowl does is anyone's guess, but they do have an affiliation with the Big 12 beginning next season - that, and geography, could win out over Oregon.

If I had to guess, assuming Ohio State and Baylor win today:

NC: Florida State vs. Ohio State
Rose: Michigan State vs. Stanford/Aizona State
Orange: Clemson vs. Alabama
Sugar: Auburn/Missouri vs. Oklahoma/Oklahoma State/Oregon
Sun: UCF vs. Baylor

What bowl game would Ohio St. likely go to if they lose to Michigan St.? A loss by them would bump Auburn/Missouri into the NC, which would bump Alabama into the Sugar Bowl. I'm assuming the Orange will take Clemson because of the ACC ties.

The Fiesta Bowl would pick last and would be stuck with UCF. The Orange Bowl picks first. Would they take Ohio St. over Oklahoma or Oregon? I'm guessing yes, and then it would be the Sugar Bowl picking Oklahoma or Oregon.

I asked this in another thread, but what happens if Ohio St. crushes Michigan St. tonight and MSU falls out of the top 14? Would Oklahoma be the likely fill in for the Rose Bowl?

MSU could lose by 30 and they won't fall out of the top 14. The 100th Rose Bowl will be a B1G versus Pac-12 team.

#11 Arizona State is getting throttled on its home field by Stanford - looks like Oklahoma should get into the top 14, so now we'll hope the Sugar Bowl prefers the Sooners over Oregon.

Oklahoma should pass ASU and Nothern Illinois, and could likely jump either UCF or LSU with their impressive win today, and OU has the bigger fan base then Oregon and the bowl game is a lot closer to Norman then Eugene which should all help

PiPress: Despite lobbying, Minnesota likely headed to Houston

"We might have broken some fax machines in Jacksonville," Teague said.

Michigan State's 34-24 victory over previously unbeaten Ohio State officially started the dominoes in motion but the Gophers (8-4, 4-4) won't officially learn whether all that lobbying paid off until Sunday night. In all likelihood, though, the Gophers will be invited to the Texas Bowl in Houston on Dec. 27.

Go Gophers!!

Here goes:

NC #1 FSU vs. #2 Auburn
Rose MSU vs. Stanford
Fiesta Baylor vs. UCF
Orange Ohio St. vs. Oklahoma
Sugar Alabama vs. Clemson

Maybe flip Oklahoma and Clemson because Orange is tied to ACC.

Cap One Wisconsin vs.South Carolina
Outback Iowa vs. LSU
BWW Nebraska vs.Kansas St.
Gator Michigan vs. Georgia
Texas Minnesota vs. ???

i have seen a couple of recent projections that has the gophers playing LSU in the gator bowl. yikes.

A number of updates this morning. Most common opponents in the new projections are Oregon State and Washington State in Houston.
