Best time to send Ben packing?

It honestly doesn't matter. Nobody shows up anyways to watch this team and they won't show up if they fire him. Outside of some diehards on this board, most people in Minnesota didn't know we played today. Let him finish the year and then start over.
Yep....and that feels like the most likely outcome. Making a change now won't have any real impact on the current season so just ride it out and make the move at the end of the season.

The worst fear of the diehards who are left is that they will find their way to 7-8 B1G wins and give Coyle enough excuse to drag this out one more year. Making a change early prevents putting them in the position of possibly having to root against the team. It also gives you a jump on the coaching search. And you have an obvious interim option on staff. It's true the broader MN Sports public doesn't care, but there are still reasons to do it.

Just enjoy the ride.

Mnvcguy has repeated this message for nearly 4 years now.

Might have to be now. I know getting MM back will change the game plan a bit

But the fact this guy is so incompetent as a coach that even with Asuma on the floor he has Patterson run the offense. Is Matt eberflus negligence

Patterson is utterly horrendous as a ball dominant player. I think he moves in reverse half the time

No reason to decimate the team and the players with a move like that. He'll coach the remainder of the year.

Best time to shit can Ben Johnson? Yesterday. And if yesterday is over...then today.

Gotta go now!,, he can’t recruit. Just terrible in game coach. Offense is terrible. Gotta go now.

Decimate what? Outside of Asuma and maybe Grove, who is even eligible to come back next year that we care about? The Barn and the program are already completely dead.

A change may motivate the team and get an early start on a coaching search. I don’t see a down side in making a move at any time from here on out.

I'm thinking about the players and the team morale. What's the purpose of firing the head coach less than halfway through the season? Because you're mad?

You can decide who you care about but Betts and Frank Mitchell can return as well. I agree with you on getting rid of Ben but not now- just for the optics for other coaches. There has never been less to lose in terms of returners and I think Asuma is going to stay here.

His own staff is so weak IMO- there is not a good interim on staff. I guess Thorson.

If they don't win at least one of the two B1G games next week, Ben should be fired on 12/10. No coaching candidate will care about the "optics" of it and Thorson can't possibly do any worse.

Betts is not a B1G player and Mitchell has been a big disappointment. He has no real offensive game and he's a foul machine. Asuma is a nice player, but the cupboard couldn't be more bare going into next year.

To be fair, the cupboard got depleted the day after Ben was hired.

To get a jump on the coaching search, clarity for the fan base and clarity for the players too. Grinding it out with a dead coach walking isn't better for their morale. Especially on a team with a bunch of seniors. Regrouping with an interim might be a good thing.

I'm not worried about the optics for other coaches. I hope any coach we get would assume that the performance we've gotten in the last 3+ years is unacceptable and fireworthy.

I was more worried about the optics of firing Tubby. That sent the message to potential coaches that "if I take the team to the second round of the NCAA tournament, i still won't be safe if the fans think the way I sit on my stool during the game makes me look disinterested."

Nothing stopping the AD from looking over potential hires. Don't need to fire the coach for that.
