Firing Ben Johnson now, rather than at the end of the year, isn't going to fix anything. Doing it for no other reason than appease fickle fans like you certainly isn't a good reason.

They certainly could use some GD coaching.

Appeasing those "fickle fans" puts butts in seats when attendance is dwindling and secondary market ticket sales are non-existent.

Ohio State got demonstrably better after firing Holtmann last year. It's not like CBJ is some master in game coach or anything.

I have no impact on who gets hired or who gets fired. I'm just not going to wet myself over it like you do on a daily basis.

Trying to be rational with people like USAF is a waste of time. If you don't match his level of negativity it means you want Johnson to get a lifetime contract and a statue in front of Williams arena.

This has been known for at least a couple of years. There are a handful of posters that add zero value to the board.
 


I'd like to see us let him go based on what others have said about maybe providing a spark to the team and then knowing the administration doesn't put up with this bad of play and then 100% starts the next search (Which I'm sure is already happening either way). But it likely won't happen. They'll allow him to wait for Mike Mitchell and Cochran. I think those guys actually will help quite a bit.

I don't think they'll help us avoid getting spanked in the Big 10 though.

Needed those guys to help us beat the North Texas and Wichita States of the world I guess.

This program is frickin' brutal.

Thankfully with the new era of transfers, a coach can come in and change it around pretty quick.

I do enjoy the coaching candidate talk. At least that comes back around again.

This new era makes those successful mid major coaches even more appealing in that they might be able to bring big parts of a successful team with them to help get a jump on things.

I feel like USAF sometimes has good things to add so I have been hesitant to put him on ignore with burner but feeling more and more like that is going to be the best option.

I've only got like 2-3 people on ignore and they're all trolls. I'm not sure why I never ignored burner. I kind of just scroll past his posts.

You think one of our assistants should be coaching this team? Sorry but I disagree. We do not have an "obvious interim option on staff" not one of these guys will be sniffing any sort of high end jobs after Ben gets canned. Thorson isn't going to be demonstrably better than this...

I am all for firing him whenever...but lets not pretend a better coach is working for Ben.

I'm not advocating for anyone on staff to remain past this season. Only that Thorson would be a capable interim a la Molinari.
 

I dont think Thorson does anything that Ben can't do. All the move does is satisfy our bloodlust to can him since it seems like the team has no issue with Ben as of now.

We've discussed the reasons plenty. None of them are rooted in Thorson being a great upgrade.

The best time for a termination would be after the Indiana game which would likely mean an announcement next Tuesday. That would allow ten practice days before FDU to kind of reset for the meat of conference play. We'd have two home buy games (FDU and Morgan State) and then get Purdue at home on January 2nd.

I can see both sides of the argument, but I'd be pretty surprised if Coyle made a move.
