I agree with WorkingMyTailOff, and I would add that Claeys actually should probably know everything that happened, if he already doesn't. To my knowledge the way these privacy issues work is that you become "in the know" on an issue if it directly affects your ability to do your job as written by your FERPA-adhering entity. And in this case, I think now that knowing the entire story directly affects his ability to do his job.

What would add another huge wrinkle to this, is if TC DOES already know, and is choosing to act the way he has acted on twitter.

If this turns out doing real damage to the football program, it will be very bad for the U as a whole despite the fact there are the football haters that will rejoice.

The ramifications will be farther reaching then we can picture right now. Consider the state angle: the taxpayers recently provided the bulk of the funding for the stadium. You think there won't be a bunch of folks in the legislature (now controlled by Republicans) that won't want to know why that investment has been squandered? And who also control much of the U's funding? I doubt they are fans of the Title IX witch hunt.

I really think the best option here is for Kaler and Coyle to be on the same page and meet with Claeys this morning to say something to the effect of, "we can't tell you everything that our investigation uncovered, but you have to trust us that this punishment is just, and we need you to get behind us and get your coaches and as many players on board. If you don't we are prepared to let your entire staff go and keep the current suspensions in place even if it means missing the bowl game."
It really is a lose lose, but the administration cannot cave on this. Either way it is going to take a while to rebuild the fanbase and possibly the talent on this team after this.

I actually expect something like this to happen. I wouldn't be totally surprised to see the U issue it's own statement today saying they r pulling out of the holiday bowl given the circumstance. The U can't, and won't, back down on this. Regarding Clayes, I think he sealed his fate last night with that tweet of support. I think the only way he stays is if he gets back in line with the U administration and somehow gets most of the kids back on board. Short of that, he is gone.

Baylor has the ability to rebound much faster than the U of M-for several reasons. It really doesn't matter much. Administration will not change their stance because they can't. IMO you will see an exodus of players along with the coach. Probably in January.

You are not concerned about the miscarriage of justice against those players not involved whose reputations are ruined? I applaud the players and the coaches standing side by side. Not for those who committed the sexual acts, but for fairness. Throw the books on African American football players, but spare the drug dealing wrestling team members who are most likely all white.

It is ironic that the EOAA can give what appears to be racially biased draconian "recommendations" with no oversight in ruining athletes lives and reputations without due process.

I think this may a good Supreme Court case if a legal challenge ever comes forward.

Of course I'm concerned about it. And it's not racially-based injustice. It's gender-based. Blacks, whites, Hispanics...men of all races have had their lives turned upside down by this kangaroo court process on campuses around the country. I get that some people are applauding Claeys for supporting his players in the face of injustice. But I will absolutely hate it if the players are permitted to dictate the actions of the administration (even if the admin is wrong). I hated it when it was done at Mizzou. I thought Pinkel should have been fired on the spot and all the players scholarships yanked if they didn't report to practice immediately. I feel the same way now.

I think a huge distinction between the U's situation & those are those is the support of the administration. Bill O'Brien/James Franklin/Golden, etc., most likely felt that they had the support of the administration when they took the job. Perhaps the admin at Miami should have been a little more understanding of Golden's situation, but I'm guessing Golden felt he had their support.

I do think a lot of coaches would be weary of taking a job here, considering what the coaches feel regarding the administration support level. Obviously SOMEBODY would take the job, but I would bet it's more someone looking for an opportunity. The U has dug themselves on heck of a mess.

Claeys might get fired or forced out over this, but sometimes you simply have to do what is right.

Deep down Kaler knows what is right here too, but he has taken the other path. This is going to do wonders for his career. In the world of academia, ignoring individual rights and due process in favor of the bowing to the PC overlords is a pretty big feather in your hat. This could get him a post at an Ivy League school.

I would assume Kaler does have all the facts which you do not so you have no idea if "he has taken the other path." A lot of posters taking the position that they know all the same facts the University Administration does.

Not all 10 of the suspended players took part in the activity's on 09/03/16 but because they are named as witnesses and left at least three (they get their reputations permanently damaged. Some of them are being punished for things they could not have for seen or prevented. The fact that underage recruits were on the premise doesn't make this look good for the football program or it's leadership in the AD.

TCF usage for that MLB concert and suites usage, inappropriate affection with colleagues, comments even before the firing went down. Kaler was neither immune to Teagues activity's or insulated from them, he wasn't directly responsible but he sure didn't proactively do anything to change the culture that Teague was perpetuating while here in charge of the AD.

You are seriously messed up. "punish the program" ? Lets see, there are 75 players that had not one darn thing to do with this nuke going off. When I went to the U of M, I paid full tuition. Players on the other hand received scholarships. That's fine...because we had a deal. They get free tuition and expenses paid while I pay full amount; in exchange, they represent my school playing football and I'm entertained. A lot of non-sports fans think that's a lousy bargain, but I was okay with it. I'm not okay with them failing to live up to their side of the bargain. People have jobs at the Holiday bowl that rely on this game being played. People, whose only luxary in life is an occasional sporting event, have spent hard-earned money to see this game. The U of M was extended an invitation in good faith to play. Now these players, who have frankly underperformed all season long, are holding the U of M, fans, spectators, WSU, and the Holiday Bowl hostage. Not acceptable.

Claeys tweet seems to me like someone trying to save his roster and recruits. It also seems that he is not necessarily aligned with his boss as the players insinuated. Not a good spot to be in...

You are pretty cynical, I say Claeys tweet means what it says, he supports his players, in situations like this you go with your gut, you don't sell out those that work with or for you, those that are you friends, you support them regardless of what the consensus is, I applaud the players for doing what they believe is right and I am 100% behind whatever they decide.

There are things that are more important than a football team, player, or season, if you are on the wrong side then there are those that should suffer the consequences, but that doesn't mean you don't support them.

There is more going on here than meets the eye, my guess is both the female student and football players are victims, as it is playing out probably on equal footings.
