Yup, Clem had fire. Dutcher too, from what I recall as a youngster. Tubby just sat there on his stool and watched the refs work his team over. Even if the refs are making the right calls, you have to get up, scream and make them think they aren't, if it's going to benefit your team.

At UK, all Tubby had to do was throw his stare and they'd cower. He didn't really change that at MN, but it didn't work anymore.
 

That was probably Brust's best performance since he played the German prisoner in Saving Private Ryan.

lol at so many whiny excuses tonight...Badgers are a top 10 team, it is not a bad loss for the gophers. I still have them in, even if they are not...things are definitely looking up in Mpls. Pitino is a stud and will continue to do well in the B10. Stop acting like the refs had anything to do with this game. Gophers got dubbed plus for christ sake.

Yeah....we got beat by a better team. Do you think the refs called a fair game? Would you agree that the decimation of any momentum has an effect on the game?

Does anyone really think if the Gophers would have won that bo would have stopped to talk to Coach and not done a blow by. He is the biggest front runner there is and I hope they get Destroyed tomorrow and brust goes back to reality.

Did you notice the TWO whole fouls called the first half? Yeah....it's easy for the refs to call them in the second half as the Gophers are already down by 15+.
 

That game plain hurts. So disappointed to go down like that. Wisconsin played a much more fundamentally sound game and we will hear the same old "there was no offense" story from Amelia tonight, yet again.

And yes, there is a chance to dance but looking at their body of work throughout the year they just don't deserve it. Besides Dre, and maybe King, little heart given tonight.

the truth is the Gophers were whipped on. seriously stop whining about the refs. every game the Gophers lose some people just can't admit the team lost the game themselves. always some excuse.

No, it's not. And no one here is saying they're why we lost. We're simply saying they were horse crap against Wisconsin for about the 999th time in a row. This was as bad as any game in Kohl Center.

Gophers lost; still a chance for the tournament. Can't win when the Hollins' score less than 10 and you get away from pounding the ball inside.

I think you two are just getting your anger misplaced. I don't think one person said that we deserved to win. However, if you had been watching the game AT ALL, it's not crazy to say that it was a very poorly called game.

It wasn't exactly even, but it was 25 point difference because of refs. Poor shooting and bad turnovers are the reason we lost.

I never said that. Take it up with the folks saying we lost because of the refs. I never said that. I have said multiple times now, that including the first half, we were never getting calls when the game was within reasonable distance. Shoot, in the first half.....we were getting called on hand checks and getting completely bodied by Wisconsin defenders on layups.

maybe it was poorly called but there are some here who are blaming the outcome all on how the game was called.

I'll agree it wasn't evenly called, but it wasn't nearly as bad as a couple on here make it sound, not blaming you. Making a few open shots couldnt have hurt either. Or free throws for that matter.

mcal - here's the problem. No, the refs most certainly did not directly cause a 26-point differential in the results of that game. But let's go back to when the ****ty reffing began, a few minutes in. What was the score then? The reffing was very biased for about a 10-15 minute stretch there in the first half, in which time the game went, essentially, from tied to a double digit deficit. We'd all like to believe the Gophers are capable of overcoming that kind of deficit; that's not the case. Because of the deficit, panic and frustration set in, and things get worse. Aside from a few more really bad calls in the second half, the reffing in the second half was pretty reasonable. BUT, the game was already decided, since the refs helped contribute to an essentially insurmountable deficit for the Gophers. Again, you're suggesting that only direct effects of bad reffing matter. I disagree strongly. The indirect effects are just as important.

Now, do I believe the Gophers would have won tonight if a fair game was called? Probably not, not the way Brust was shooting and the way Dre Hollins and Malik were shooting. But I do believe they'd have had at least a slight chance, given the effects that reffing had on the momentum and style of that game. Perhaps the Gophers could have kept it close and seen Wisconsin choke in the end. Hard to choke when you're up 10-15 on essentially freebies. And no way do I believe the Gophers would have been anywhere near a 26-point loss given a fair game. And that, to me, is important, as regardless of what you all say; when the selection committee considers the Gophers and sees that they were blown out by 26 in a must-win situation, it doesn't matter to them how that 26-point loss occurred, but that blowout will matter.
