Anyone know why Devron got suspended??

Rumors were going around the student section Thursday that he stole a bike.
 



Looks like we wont be seeing Devron for 6 games.

If by "Stole" you mean bought, then smoked, then got caught and by "Bike" you mean marijuana then you've nailed it.
 

God forbid..a college kid smoked weed. I would have lost my eligibility the first week of college. Hopefully he at least watched Up in Smoke...by far Cheech and Chong's best.

I stayed away from the stuff myself, but I had a good buddy of mine who I played pickup with all the time who smoked that crap 24/7 but owned the pickup courts at the Rec., especially while high as a kite. I'm guessing it kept him calm, but never did figure out how we was so good as hammered as he always was. Same guy also did a hit and run on the passenger side door of a car in the dorm parking lot, so it's not like he was pure silky smooth or something. Better on the bball court than behind the wheel, obviously.

Good grief...our entire broomball team at MSU never would have seen the ice the entire season if I remember correctly. Wait....what????

I can't believe you think a broomball player and a major division I athlete can be held to the same standard??
 

Please get over yourself, burton34. The reference is that many college kids experiment and I don't condone the use of drugs...just being honest about my experiences. Of course, if I had a full ride to college for sports, I never would've run the risk personally and that is one of many reasons why Bostick's decision was an unwise one.

I just never got the attraction of weed. Not a prude about it, but just never got it. Why? There are so many other things to do and spend your money on. And although no one gets busted on campus, weed is illegal and unregulated....you never really know what your getting. It just really seemed so stupid to me. So many other things to do unless you needed a chemical way to feel good about yourself.
 


Wow, so now the gopherhole posters think that it's okay for our scholarship athletes to be smoking weed, and that it is college so they can "experiment"... This place gets dumber and dumber every day.
 

Oh My God... REEFER MADNESS...F'n bunch of pu$$ies. Ohh my Timmy its unregulated, who knows what your getting. Its a freaking plant that grows from the Earth, thats what Im getting. Its not made in a lab or brewery. But anyway I dont condone student athletes using or any minors for that matter, just enjoy your free college ride and be good citizens.
 

im pretty sure there are just a few d1 athletes who light up, but im also fairly certain to get suspended, its usually the 2nd offense and it is kind of a 3 strikes and youre out deal, the first time usually having little if any consequences. I dont know about basketball, but Ive heard football enforces it this way

i'm pretty sure there are a lot more than light up. and yes, with football, it does take 2 or 3 offenses. i'm guessing tubby would be more harsh than brew.

jackio - i don't think anyone is saying it's okay, i think people can relate to this, because many of us have smoked up at one point or another.

while it's not okay, and bostick should certainly serve his time, i know i am personally thankful he didn't use violence, get arrested, resist any arrest or get tased (multiple times). you can debate with holier than thou attitudes, but in my mind, this is a lot less of a big deal than the other offenses.

A little defensive about the weed there, GoldenHerbs? Are herbs really golden? Don't worry, no one will take your pot away.
 


Without getting holier-then-though, you should at least be able to limit to the off-season if you're a student athlete. Maybe they even get tested then, I don't know. But it seems like he got caught once practice started.
 

I look at it this way. ... if I had a child and he looked up to a particular athlete, would I want him to look up to an athlete that smokes weed or one that doesn't? One who keeps his nose clean and never finds himself in trouble, or one who it seems trouble follows them around?

If this is indeed why he was suspended, I don't think think it's an action we just guffaw at, and just say "it's not a big deal." However, I agree with those that say what Royce did (allegedly) is a much more serious offense. The violence part of Royce's act and his lack of respect for authority bothers me more than the stealing, and certainly more than the (alleged) Cheech & Chong moment.
 

This could be Devron's second or third strike however, where as this is technically Royce's first team rule violation.
 

Does getting kicked out of a dorm qualify as a team rule violation?

Not upset at all, it just bothers me how closed minded people are to weed. Alcohol is 1000x worse than weed. In minnesota, along with more and more states it is only a ticket for possesion of less than an ounce. Really it should be regulated taxed and sold to anyone over 18-21?? :cool02:
