Another snow storm on Saturday.

News Flash: Columbus, Ohio is not in the Sun Belt.

I think people are overstating the impact of the weather IMO. We have plenty of players from the south. Just because they walk to class in this weather dressed in multiple layers doesn't mean they'll handle the cold in a football game a lot better than OSU. And heck, it'll even affect the players from Minnesota as well. Our offense was terrible in the cold last year.

Columbus is showing highs in the upper 30's for most of the week. Game time temp will likely be 20's. I don't know that we will be THAT much better equipped for the weather. It might slow the game down a little but both teams will be prepared for the weather.

Thank God there are some logical fans left. Saturday's weather is no more of an advantage or disadvantage for either team. Silly to think any differently.

I'm watching the Weather Channel and noticed that the storm was called Winter Storm Astro. When did they start giving these snow events names as if they are comparable to a hurricane or a storm of that severity? Winter storms are more of an annoyance than they are dangerous. Nobody needs to head for safety or anything. Quite peculiar.

Two years ago. It was started by The Weather Channel and caught on by other media outlets for that year. Since then it's been mocked and fallen out of favor. I believe last year's season storm names all came from Harry Potter or something.

husker, how do you project the Defensive game going for the uglies?

When TOSU comes out the Key is Barrett. He must be reached and hurried or dumped. He cannot be allowed to stand on point and deliver. It his passing that drives the big plays. We have experience, depth and speed in the secondary. Whether we play man, zone, or combination it will be critical to cover for 4-5 seconds. Read and drive the receivers off line, disrupt the timing. NO BIG PLAY OVER THE TOP. Make him dink and dunk and tackle. But the real key is to show TOSU blitz's they have no tape on. No idea of where or how to stop it. And when we blitz we have to get to Barrett. If we hit Barrett make it a clean shot.

The one thing we do have is Mortell, he has shown the knack of kicking for exact distant. Make TOSU go 85. No short field opportunities.

Dateline 2:45 PM on 11/11/14:

Dave Dahl on ESPN 1500 predicts around 2 inches of snow for Saturday, with winds picking up in the afternoon.

Snownami...no. Potentially interesting...yes.

Go Gophers!

I think the point to make here is that cold/bad weather generally will reduce the total number of points scored. I would say the fewer total points scored, the greater chance of an upset. Last year we lost to MSU 14-3. The Gophers offense was terrible that game, but weren't really ever "out" of the game, especially considering the ability to score on defense and special teams.

The Gophers aren't going to have any chance to win a 50-48 track meet. Thus, you cheer for cold/bad weather to temper both offenses.

Yep, that is the point some of us are trying to make. The issue is with those that are implying that cold weather somehow favors our players over theirs based on where they live. Chances are good that we can't keep pace with them in a track meet so yeah if the weather is bad and it slows the game down that could work in our favor some.

And when did they all become "snow events"? Stop it, it's just "snow". We live in Minnesota, it shouldn't be considered an "event".

I agree with you about the temperature and whether kids will be "able" to play well in the cold/snow. I think that argument is BS. However, if it starts snowing with strong winds it will be much harder to throw the ball, and conditions in which throwing the ball would be difficult would definitely benefit the Gophers. To quote Hi-Fi and Common Man, let's hope a Snownami rolls through on Saturday morning and the Buckeyes can't figure out the combination to THE VAULT!!!

The weather forecast I'm looking at has a temp of 22 at 11a, but it will feel like 15, overcast and 5mph winds out of south. Snow showers will start around 1pm in time for the second half with winds picking up. Temps will peak at 25. That's about 19 degrees colder than they've had to deal with. This isn't our first rodeo so there will be no surprises for us.

I'm guessing they started this naming snow days about the same time Delany starting manufacturing and naming all these new trophy games. It would not surprise me that Delany and the weather guys/gals have weekly brainstorming sessions.

Their brainstorming sessions would just turn into light drizzles!

I hope we get snowed in, can't drive, and are stuck in dinky town. We'll party like rock stars after a great win!

Bad weather tends to help teams that are slower by slowing down everything.

when everyone is slower, the quickness difference is less.

Are we the slow team or fast team on Saturday?

Ohio State is primarily a running team, although many of the "runs" are based off of short passes. #15 is a very good running back, but many players will be carrying the ball and they are all very fast. Our defense is fast and tough, but at times cannot handle misdirection and speed on the edges off passing and mis-direction. (TCU,Northwestern, Purdue, and Illinois, not Iowa)

It is possible that Ohio St. will freak out in the bad weather, or TC will come up with some great new defensive game plan, but this will be a very difficult challenge to slow down OSU.

Also, the field will be in very good shape for fast players to run on, unless it really starts to snow, so I'd not put too much stock in the weather being a big deal.

A win is very possible, but I would get off the weather angle, unless it makes you feel better. I think Toledo raised Urban Meyer will relish getting his team ready for this environment. I personally enjoy attending the games when winter arrives early, which generally makes the games less predictable and interesting, but we are playing OSU, not USC, Arizona State, or Auburn.

If momentum starts to build, OSU mentally folds and the crowd gets into it, things could get interesting. Our athletic defense could be the difference if everything comes together, despite my reservations about counting on the conditions to impact Ohio State.

The Weather Channel started doing this a couple years ago. It has been going on in Europe for a long time, to gives names to large non-tropical storms.

"I think Toledo raised Urban Meyer will relish getting his team ready for this environment."

Preposterous.

I'm guessing the Vikings have much better sideline heaters than the Gophers. Why would we invest a lot of money in something we'd rarely use, and the Vikes would buy the best system available. This could be a huge advantage for OSU.

I saw the game when the Gophers upset a 10th ranked Southern Cal team, with their All-American HB, Jon Arnett, in a blizzard in Memorial Stadium. Crowd loved it and stayed to the end, despite the snow. Think it was 1955.

F'n crooks.

Can we make them use the visitors locker room?

It was also Homecoming! That would have been fun.

Weather update... looks like it will be cloudy and about 19 at kickoff, only warming to 23. Not a lot of wind, and snow chance looks a little less than earlier - perhaps an inch and maybe not starting until after kickoff.
