Andre Hollins on KFAN

Wow a coach yelled at a player for taking a shot he didn't agree with? Can't say I've ever seen this before this is shocking to me. Tubby backed off a ton since the start of his tenure at Minnesota.

Well whenever you're down 20+ and a guy is single-handedly getting you back into the game, you'd think he'd have a green light.

Remember that Dre is a smart kid. He is going to Carlson so even if NT had to coach the team himself, Dre was not going anywhere. My biggest worry is when he gets into foul trouble. Agressive defense may cause some problems for him. Otherwise, he will fit into Pitino's system. Like I have said before, Rick and Billy must have thought highly of Dre and other players when they approved the job for Richard. Dre had a very good game against Florida and UCLA.

Go Gophers

That'll be an early conversation between Dre and the coach. He'll tell him how important he is to the team and how he needs to stay on the floor. Dre should be able to understand that he can't accumulate dumb fouls pressing the ball 50 feet from the basket and force himself out of the game.

Sid, among others on this board, were/are saying how Tubby's departure could cause some player's to transfer. I was actually thinking the opposite, would there be departures if Tubby stayed?

Remember, this is the coach that got in Dre's face for taking a quick shoot ... after Dre had almost single-handedly brought the Gophers back against Florida. It was actually a very similar situation that tipped my opinion against The Tubster. Several years ago Devoe Joseph had just hit his third outside shot in a row to put the Gophers up double digits against Northwestern. For some inexplicable reason, Tubby immediately subbed for Devoe and Northwestern went on a run to win the game going away. Devoe eventually transferred to Oregon & became 1st team Pac-12.

You can have all kinds of spin to this. The whole world even Devoe know that he had other issues than not liking Tubby. Also, it was after MSU game that he left. I remember that players came out of a timeout and then Devoe had a very quick and stupid shot that really did cost the game. All players and Tubby were shocked that he did that. He must have had too much weed before that game.

I agree that it's important for Dre to stay on the court. That is exactly why Tubby did a poor job with subs. You don't take guys out of the game for extended periods just because you're worried they'll foul out. I'll bet dollars to donuts that Pitino has a longer leash when acquiring 2 fouls in the first half, 4 fouls with 8 minutes while down 10, etc.

I always did.

When you dont have subs that will pick up the slack, you need to take chances and let your player stay in the game, especially if youre not ahead

Sid is never wrong.

One of my favorite Sid insider moments when he continually wrote that we were going to get Chris Webber to come to the U. Yeah, that was a long shot at best. Yeap, I agree, Sid is never wrong.

Coach K needs to learn from Richard then since he took Kelly out with 2 fouls when they played UL. These old coaches, I tell you. They know nothing about basketball.

Yeah, he took Kelly out for about 2 minutes, put him back in, and Kelly quickly picked up his 3rd foul. Then he sat the rest of the half with 3 fouls. I don't say this to open Pandora's box about, "See, he picked up his third, and that's why you sit him." Just pointing out that Coach K did put Kelly back in with ~9 mins left in the first half with 2 fouls.

I think Tubby wanted to play it, but for whatever reason other big ten teams were able to dictate the tempo we played at. That'll be something Pitino will have to change.

It is indeed easier said than done - but not impossible. MSU consistently finds ways to get easy baskets off the break because it's a point of emphasis, a staple of each game plan that they practice and are persistent and patient about finding their spots for in games.

Attacking players to advance an agenda is not cool in my book.

Not true about Webber. Clem was closer to getting him than most think.

Player crush... Andre Hollins. Seems like a great combo of talent and class.

Andre, I am sure Pitino will not be stupid enough to play you at point guard. He will bring in a quick ball handling point guard and push you to the two. If Tubby had done that he would have propably made elite 8.

Hey seems like old times - I agree w/Mikie.

About 6 years ago I went to a game w/a friend who played point guard in the BT. He said Al Nolen was playing scared - spent more time watching the bench than the floor, always afraid he was going to get benched. I didn't want to see it. Tubby's substitution patterns made less and less sense as time went on. Players didn't get into a rhythm and they didn't progress over the years. Players like Oto & Mav are out on the floor early in the game in the 2nd/3rd round of the NCAA tourney? Yes - this would lead the person who was sitting on the bench so they could play think about leaving.

Any current Gopher player that decides to abandon ship, good riddance. If it were me, I would stay and be a part of an upcoming transformation. If I was a current recruit, I would want to jump on board and be a part of an upcoming transformation.

I believe in the new and young blood that Norwood Teague is bringing on board to not only right this ship, but to win the regatta.

Go Gophers!!!

Maybe even undefeated huh?

Also have to balance this with what's best for the kid. Does Dre make the NBA as a PG? Not sure....but he doesn't as a 2. I would like to see him at a mix of 1 and 2 these next two years, kind of like how Tubby did it a couple times down the stretch (but not nearly often enough)

Tubby was too nice of a guy. I am sure he knew that he would have a better team if Andre played 2 instead of 1 , but he gave him a chance to develop point guard skills at expense of the team to increase his pro chances. I expect Dre made this deal when he was recruited here. It really hurt the pro chances of Mbawke and Williams, who would have thrived with a break down point guard and a fllor spacing 2 . I am not so sure that deal exists.

Did they have a better point? I mean it makes sense to push him to 2 if you have a real 1 - did we?

I thought he had tried to recruit them and always came up short. Like Joseph's brother. Not coming here.

Then if that is true, Buck can therefore use his current inherited team members as a recruiting tool. Right?

Can we please get off this Buck crap. Another guy wants to call him a Dick. Please, Richard or Rich. Why is everyone wanting to belittle our coach? Don, you have too much time on your hands. Put it to a more positive use
