Amelia rips fans who attend NIT

Marcus >>>>>> Myron >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Amelia

$20 seats will do that to ya. They should have been $10. I shouldn't have to pay more to see the Gophers in the NIT than the Wolves in the regular season.

There are not many people willing to spend $50 on 2 tickets/gas/parking to see an NIT game.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I was thinking the same thing. $10 may have been a more realistic price for an NIT ticket.

How much of that is controlled by and split with the NIT?

How long has fuller had his job compared to Amelia? Twitter followers suggest Amelia is doing a better job at promoting herself.

It has nothing to do with the fact that she is a good looking girl.

To be fair she was called a moron based on her interview on KFAN, not the article. She is better than Myron. Thats all I really care about when it comes to the Gopher beat writer. She doesnt do herself any favors when she speaks though. Um ahhh um um like ok?

She's not great, but far better than Myron and better than Marcus. The article itself was not that big of a rip. The photo of the fan yawning might be a low blow, but I doubt she had any hand in picking that. You could hear players and fans talking on TV. It was clearly a tiny crowd. Why get butt hurt over them pointing out the obvious?

No way. Your brain has blocked out how bad Myron was. Jeff Shelman (sp?) was far better than any of the coverage we've had the past 7-8 years though.

I honestly do not think it is that big of a deal that she said that the crowd was bad. What do you expect? She, in fact, complemented the ones who where there by saying she didn't expect it to be as loud as it was.

When even a player is thanking the fans for coming and saying "even though it is the NIT", I think that gives you a little insight to possibly how some of the team feels as well.

We all know it is not where we wanted this Gopher team to be, myself included. I am going to enjoy the NIT for what it is, more opportunity to watch Gopher Basketball. Why get all bent out of shape over someone printing what the majority of people are thinking?

I will say this, I've been to games where the barn was quieter, there was a sequence in the second half where the crowd got loud. I'm guessing the crowds will get better with each round, no where near capacity but better, next game is Sunday, kids will be back from Spring break.

It's too much to ask that local media members have anything positive to say about local sports teams. However, I will say that in general, I don't mind Amelia. I think she's not a terrible writer. A little careless, perhaps, but she's young.

I'm not gonna be too negative because I think she's written some good articles like the pieces she did on EE and McNeil more recently so it's not like she's negative all the time. As someone who was at the game it was a bit embarrassing how few people were there but honestly it's what's to be expected for an NIT game against High Point. I can't imagine at Duke, Carolina, Kentucky etc. they would be filling the arena to the rafters for an NIT game so it was kinda pointless going on and on about how few people were there but oh well and who cares. Let's go beat St.Mary's on Sunday.

To be fair, it's a quick turnaround. You didn't even know about the game until Sunday night, and then you hear it's High Point. People just weren't going to scramble for that ticket and change any possible schedules to attend. I would anticipate St. Mary's on Sunday to bring a little more heat.

This thread is getting off topic.

Who has seen her in person?

She's an 8.5 on Facebook.

I'm hearing a 6 in person. Is this true?

The Strib has been losing money for years as the media turns over from print to electronic news. They hired a newbie to cut costs. For the most part, Amelia's been a wallflower and essentially said nothing of much value except to regurgitate the obvious. This article is really nothing different from the pages she's put out in the past. If anything, I'd like to see her have a bit more edge to her writing. She tends to come off as uneducated about the subjects she's reporting on and therefore pandering to the administration of those teams she reports on. If I were to compare her to anything I think I'd compare her to a Matzo cracker...bland, bland, bland.

I stated she is better than Myron. Thanks for agreeing. I didnt read the article, just said that the prevoius poster's opinion of her was based on her interview. Not the article. I agreed with that because she sounds kinda dumb when talking about basketball. I could care less about the crowd at a NIT game. My butt doesnt hurt. Not sure where that came from.

The only morons here are the A$$ who started this post and the Dumb A$S who called her a moron. No where in the article did she rip fans. Clearly you have a literacy problem. So what if it is her first job? She is doing a fine job. She is reporting on the story. And the small crowd was part of the story. Get over it!

I met with Amelia this winter. I didn't recognize her with her clothes on. I can now put a face with that name.

Hahaha. Take your own advice.

Listen to her on the radio and get back to me.

She's no Reusse anyhow. His angry cheapshots at anything Gopher are a joke. See today he's talking about Pitino's unbearable whining? Unbearable would describe his reporting. Turkey of the year? Talk about a guy who loves to tear people down. Luckly the guy probaby won't be at it much longer. Must be tough being so bitter, but looking at him I can see why.

She'd be an easy 8 if she wasn't scarily thin.

Some people have difficulty w/irony - I purposefully made the the OP headline inflammatory and skewed. I am not a reporter so I can do that.

Amelia has followed the time honored approach. Write straight-forward articles year one, and year two adopt a cynical negative air so that she can fit in with the media itself. This year she has made multiple errors in her reporting on game stats and generally has affected the snide tone. Some of you are ok w/that, and I'm ok w/you being ok w/it. But lets not pretend its good reporting, unless the eye test for her includes glasses on for looking and glasses off for reading. (I am not a reporter, so I can say that) As someone said, she is not a columnist.

I thought the photo selection was inaccurate reporting, although the captions were accurate, and revealed an attitude and tone approaching the whole assignment that was given more credence than the game itself. Why include a picture of a fan yawning? Of course, it does state the fan was yawning during a time out. I've been to many dull games at the Barn. This wasn't close to the top 20.
