Just thought I'd have a heading fitting of news reporters.
Photos show a nearly empty arena BEFORE the game and the majority of attendees arrive, and includes a photo of a yawning child.

I thought the crowd who showed up was very engaged. I suspect Amelia is the one who is not, having to cover the NIT.

I don't know much about her, and won't bother with the link. That said, I heard her on KFAN a couple weeks ago, talking with Paul Allen. I was embarrassed for her. Where did they find this moron?

The article does comment on the small attendance, and the picture of the yawning fan looked like a bit of a shot, but I don't see any ripping of fans for showing up. You did have to click to the second page of the article for this line:

"By halftime, the attendees had shaken the snow off their boots and managed to produce more sound than seemed possible from such a small bunch."

You know...the biggest negative of all of this is WHY does this has to be the story? It does nothing to help promote the team or encourage others to get engaged. Basically, showing a very sparse crowd along with a yawning fans gives the impression we should all be saying "big deal", when the fact is, the players and coaching staff think it IS a big deal. Journalism as a whole sucks, particularly when it comes to the debbie downers like Ameilia.

It seems every writer who has ever covered Gopher Basketball gets ripped for no good reason. Here is another prime example of it.
The story was innocuous. There was really nothing that should elicit such a negative comment.

To state that she is a moron is asinine.

No where in the job description of any media member in town does it say "promote the team" or "help sell tickets".

Team averages around 12,000 and draws just over 3,000 last night....how DARE she mention that?!?!?!?

I've heard her talk about the Gophers/Bigfoot on PA in the past. She is not impressive. Moron maybe isn't the best term for her, but.....

Our media, in general, is glass half empty.

I didn't base my opinion on the article. In fact, I pointed out, in my comment, that I wasn't even going to bother with it.

To be fair she was called a moron based on her interview on KFAN, not the article. She is better than Myron. Thats all I really care about when it comes to the Gopher beat writer. She doesnt do herself any favors when she speaks though. Um ahhh um um like ok?

Marcus with the PP does a great job covering the Gophers IMO.

Also, watched Missouri Davidson last night. At Missouri there may have been more Davidson fans there. Place looked much emptier than the Gophers game, at least the shots I saw.

I think he called races at Canterbury. Wait. Were you talking about a different moron?

She's exceptional at the most important part of her job.

And it has nothing to do with journalism.

How do you write a game story without mentioning the crowd, uninterested team for nearly a half, disappointment from Sunday, etc. Even the coach and players were quoted as saying the first game of the NIT was tough to play.

“We thank everybody for coming out,” Gophers guard Andre Hollins said. “Even though it’s the NIT.”

The quotes after the game wrote the story.

Paul Allen + Amelia = Terrible radio. She is really bad interview & sounds like a complete idiot verbally.

Devils advocate: Is it her job to promote the team and get people engaged, or is that the job of the U? She reported what she saw. A B1G team playing a home game in the "post season" with an attendance in the 3,000s. I would be pissed at the U for doing a crappy job of filling up the arena.

$20 seats will do that to ya. They should have been $10. I shouldn't have to pay more to see the Gophers in the NIT than the Wolves in the regular season.

There are not many people willing to spend $50 on 2 tickets/gas/parking to see an NIT game.

Given the general nature of GH’s response to media, it surprises me how many people like Amelia, because she’s TERRIBLE. Bad reporter. Bad writer. She takes countless shots at the team and fans. Go read her Twitter whenever the team plays poorly.

It’s one thing for Reusse and Souhan to do that, because they’re columnists paid to share their opinion and “stir the pot.” Amelia is paid to cover the team, and she has no inside info, no insightful commentary, and takes joy in taking digs at fans. Horrible.

When the Rutgers job opened up and before we hired Pitino, Amelia took to Twitter to explain why Rutgers was a better job than the Gophers, which is an indefensible stance. Among her rationale: “It’s a Big Ten job.” Ugh. Go away, Amelia.

Not everyone shares that viewpoint:

Is Marcus Fuller drunk in this podcast?
Listen to this podcast, the guy contradicts himself throughout the entire podcast and is all over the place.

Wow! He just sounds like an idiot.
