Amelia lays out the case for Buzz/Gophers:

The relationship is there. I keep going back to this, but that’s because I think Teague and associate AD Mike Ellis represent some of the best arguments there are for Minnesota. Many coaches have expressed sentiments about how attractive that administration is to work for – those who know Teague and Ellis know they will strongly support their basketball program and coaches. Williams is a Villa 7 guy, and the two parties have remained close.

Williams might not have an ideal situation relationship-wise at Marquette. I hear differing reports of just how poor his relationship is with current athletic director Larry Williams. Some have told me the rift is overblown, while others have said the state is fairly toxic. Whatever the case, its clear that things could be better in that regard.

Go Gophers!!

Do you suppose any of the prospective hires are checking with Tubby? Do you think Tubby has any cred with other coaches? What kind of recommendation do you think Tubby is giving the U?

Do you think the Shaka had a relationship with Teague and Ellis? If so, how could he have not jumped at the job? There are unanswered questions.

That's not an A->B proposition. There's any number of reasons. Just because you have a relationship with someone, doesn't mean you take the job. Maybe his wife and family prefer Richmond? Maybe he's waiting for a different opening? Maybe he loves it there and will never leave? Maybe his relationships with his current administration are great? Etc, etc, etc, etc.

I think Buzz is wildly unlikely, but, like she says, not impossible. I'd be utterly shocked, but extremely happy.

If there is any chance of this taking place, we should know by the end of the day tomorrow. Teague would have to move quickly and get it done. No matter how small the chance, he has to pursue it. Our options are getting fairly limited at the moment.

No they aren't bedwetter.

Tubby would forget the question about 2 minutes into his lengthy answer

The unfortunate thing about this article is that despite the fact that Amelia notes multiple times how unlikely it is and could hardly make it more clear, a lot of people will have it turn from "not impossible" to "possible" to "likely" and will view the whole process as a failure (again) if/when he says "no".

The only one this falsely happened with was Shaka. People thought Teague was such a wizard that he had Shaka in the pocket. Since then I don't know of any deal that people thought was likely that wasn't. He had Flip if he wanted him.

I can't imagine anyone thinking the Buzz deal is likely, in fact it seems barely possible. Someone would have had to have given Teague a blank check to get that one done. Huge salary, huge buyout and a guy that just got his school to the Elite Eight. Williams would really have to hate his AD for this to happen.

You are right, beej. Several stars will haffta allign for this to happen, therefore I am sticking with A Shocker of an announcement after the Dance ends.

you seem to have all of the answers. If we don't get our name coach, can we count on you to write that first million dollar check to build the practice facility?

I'll write that check ! Of course the check is going to bounce higher than the IDS tower but its the thought that counts.

I will too, phipho. And if it bounces, they can come back and I will give them another one just like it.

It's not factually impossible but it's not much less likely than landing Coach K.

Buzz Williams makes a ton of money, he has an amazing team coming back next year (pretty much everyone and a GREAT recruiting class), and Marquette is a better job than the U right now. It's about as unlikely as almost every big name coach in the country.

The Teague/Ellis connection with coaches angle is played out a bit. One of my better friends is my former boss and I don't really care for my current boss, however, it would be a demotion to go back and work for him. So even if Buzz hates the administration at Marq., it would be a GIGANTIC shock if Buzz considered MN.

It's unfortunate, but what do you expect.

If I was a journalist and I wrote that it's possible that Dr. Don was going to be our next coach even though the odds were really low, the obvious next mental step for a lot of readers would be to think that Dr. Don was a realistic candidate.

sssshhhhhhhh I am trying to keep this rumor under wraps. One problem is, I am not an unknown flying in under the radar after all I have contributed to GopherHole.

That would be a good hire Don. If true, however, Teague had one of his worst days of his life yesterday. Turned up the heat on himself by bungling Flip and then his other target goes to the final four - raising the price of poker dramatically.

A bit dramatic?

He bungled the Flip hire by not allowing him to hire unqualified assistants? Makes sense.

It is your opinion that he is unqualified. In the opinion of many others, he is very qualified.

It seems unlikely. However, the new Big East will be <<< the B1G, and he apparently doesn't love his boss. Amelia has insinuated that she knows things she can't say and she's brought this up a couple times now. Maybe there's something to it.

If Williams never gets an offer or meets with Norwood who's going to be bothered by the article? If they meet and Williams is hired that's a success. If they meet and he turns Teague down then by definition how could it be anything but a failure?

This whole thing is getting pretty amusing. Maturi constantly was criticized for talking about what was going on. It lead to irritation, frustration and rumors. Norwood doesn't say a damn thing officially, who knows what he may be leaking, but he's said nothing publicly about the search. That seems to have limited the irritation and frustration level for the public and fans if not for the Media "jackals" themselves.

Now as for the silence limiting the rumors.... :cool03:
