All Things Weather

Now up to 175 mph, one of the strongest in the Atlantic ever. Jamaica has lots of hills and mountains so have to believe that could make the effects of the high wind even worse at the higher elevations. And excess runoff from the heavy rain is going to be extreme.

The destruction is going to be insane.

Honestly don't know if I've ever seen this graphic used before. 2025-10-31_13-40-15.png

Some might get their first taste of winter this weekend. Certainly the temp will feel like it with a chance of some snowflakes.

Signs showing there might be a sharp change to cold after Thanksgiving. Still a bit up in the air but could be a good start for the winter lovers.

Winter is definitely starting next week.
Wish it could have held off until after Thanksgiving weekend with travel but overall excited for a good start to winter.

If it’s illegal it’s available; too much money to make via the black market, you Mamdaniite🤣.

Mmm. Whale blubber😂.

I’d eat anything when I was stoned.
I spent a short time in Greenland way back when. Tried whale blubber, shark, seal, etc.... the absolute worst thing you can imagine.

I’m keen to try shark and whale blubber only with a gummy, Seals, I’d have baby seals on mind, so probably not.

Of course the biggest storm in awhile occurs when we’re out of town. Probably close to a foot of snow awaits me at home in Wisconsin after our 6-7 hour drive tomorrow.

@GopherWeatherGuy I might be getting a bit out of my element here and maybe a bit beyond my understanding but I look at some weather related message boards from time to time, especially when there's a potential winter storm coming. I see Phase 7, 8, etc referenced at times. I'm assuming it's related to MJO. How does the phases influence the weather in the US, especially the upper midwest?

Generally phases 7,8,1 during the winter are stormier across the US, especially in the west, with cold across the eastern US. I'm not a MJO expert, or much of a watcher of it, to me it's just a pattern that always cycles 30-60 days. The biggest influence on long range winter forecasts has always been ENSO and comparing that to past similar years, and I've also liked to compare those years to other pacific water temperatures, and Siberian snowpack in October.
