All Things Veritas Losing 7 Defensive Starters Thread

Were you a drunk/addict at one point in your life?

Nope. I am lucky to not be the addictive type. But, you can not live to be 74 in this world without knowing tons and tons of addicts and how they destroyed their lives and their family lives. Common topic among old folk. But hey, I'm not trying to talk you out of being a drunk. Just don't stand for every minute of a three and half hour game.

Unfortunately there was a lot of ineptitude and malaise during those dozens of years. People stand a lot for teams that make plays and win.

"A lot" is not and has not been the problem. Every second of three and half hours was and is the issue. Especially for that six and half foot tall dude.

I don’t drink, but that doesn’t mean I won’t stand at a game. I’m not sure what one has to do with the other. Is it OK for me to stand, if I’m drinking a bottle of water or a Diet Coke?

Well if I want to get wasted and cheer for my favorite team whilst standing ypur just going to have to deal with it, just like we have to listen to all the old folks bitching about how they cant see.. I mean stand the fuck up

I am dealing with it. I'll report back here with what I find out. Maybe the old folks can't stand for three and half hour straight. But, rest assured, the next time a wasted idiot does that again I will take action of one sort or another.

What do you mean by "stand"? "Stand for the whole game and half time and never sat down" was my complaint. If that is what you mean then my answer is "no, it is not OK".

There is a ‘Problem Squad’? This appears to be a bit of a zugzwang in that if the U decrees no standing during games it may deter some more enthusiastic standers from attending, yet if it allows standing some people that are not disabled yet insist they are disabled may elect not to attend. It’s a real impasse. The Problem Squad to the rescue?

If every occasion is a drinking occasion they are an addict. Therefore, most drinkers are addicts. Test yourself. I drank for a year or so in college but saw drinking as a waste of tons of money and quit. Just don't need it. It was never my thing at all. For the past 50 plus years I probably don't average one drink a month. But, my comment was originally that most of the standing drinkers in front of us at the Badger game were clear, heavy drinkers. (You know, the guy drinking out of three beer cans at once. Probably a drunk. Or am I being "judgemental" in his case?)

There are people who have fun drinking but don't need it. I would say the overwhelming vast majority of drinkers I know fall into this category.

I've actually quit drinking for other reasons, so this is coming from a non-drinker.

Gopher football games are pretty timid experiences.

This thread should be "all drinking and standing" thread.

The losing 7 starters is a real concern IMO. It's not one that I'm particularly concerned with, but I think reasonable people could be worried.

If someone is standing in front of you, contact the police and they will handle these lawbreakers.

I really think some folks in our fanbase need to experience what game day is like at helmet schools. If you think we’re overly disruptive re: standing & drinking, you’re in for a rude awakening...

I have been to games at every Big Ten school except Penn State and Rutgers. Never had to stand for the whole game including half time until the Badger game here last year. But then, I was not seated in the student sections.

My point was could they do without. My experience is that they can not. Try it sometime with a crowd of neighbors or co workers. Won't work, they can't. Glad you can.

Who says you should not stand for a big play? Not me.

It does not have to be one or the other and the only ones on this site calling for one not the other are the stand people who insist that they have have that right and all the others should go away or shut up. A possible suggestion I have made is sections being designated as standing sections. We would then not sit in that section or sections. PS I called it the "problem squad", the U calls it something PC.

I think the real victims here are tall people. Are they supposed to suppress their excitement and stay seated cause they're tall? I'm 6-foot-4 and stood through both Penn State and Wisconsin - along with most of our sections. Oh, my parents are in their 70s and they stood too.

Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin typically stand during the games with the exception of timeouts and half-time. If you don’t like standing, Northwestern may be the perfect solution.

Funny, I've been to games at those places and do not recall standing that much. Must be tough on the whellchair types. Been to nearly two hundred Gopher home games and have only encountered this stand for three and half hours straight at the last game of this season. If this is not straightened out by the end of next season our three seats will be cancelled. You guys can "Row the Boat Standing!" Great job of building the fan base.

there are spaces on the lower bowl that are for people if they have a disability. They are unobstructed even if the people in top row in would stand. One only needs to call ticket services to get a space reserved.

I try not to judge people who I am hanging out with.

I don't think that's really a fair test.

Every time I go out to eat, I end up eating more than I should and things I probably shouldn't. But I don't think I have a food obsession. For me, what's the point in going out if I am not doing something I enjoy.

On the flip side, if you look at our bowl game depth chart we are actually only replacing 6 starters as opposed to 7. So many layers to this.
Glad we have a thread dedicated to it.

Correct. This was brought up multiple times to veritas. You can lead a horse to water...

“Wheelchair types” - seems even you have some things to work on.

What does that have to do with me, my wife or my sister in law? We can stand, we just do not want to stand for three and half hours straight. And will not.

A drunk is a drunk, a rude person is a rude person, no need to pussy foot or protect these types. Standing in front of old women who do not want to stand for a whole game is rude. Full stop. Not being a wimp I will speak up and do something about that if I can whether it offens the drunks and savages or not.

Well, bye.

Reading comprehension John. "if it is not straightened out..." I will do everything I can to straighten it out. I don't have to let the barbarians have their way, do I?
