All Things Transfer Portal News

Definitely wouldn’t try to build a program like this.
Georgia went really hard after only one QB in this cycle and that was Arch Manning. When they lost out on him, they didn’t really pivot to anyone else. Why? They didn’t need too. They have 3 QB’s on the roster (Stockton, Vandagriff and Beck) who would all start on most any other team in the country. That’s a 5 star and two 4 star QB’s waiting in the wings. The only reason they pursued Manning was due to pedigree.

The tampering is in full swing. He just entered the portal and within an hour already know where he is going?

Altmyer is talented. Good pickup for Illinois.

No rational person leaves a job without having another one lined up.
The players who are desirable put out feelers to teams that they might want to join.
If the coaches give them a positive response the player enters the portal.

Pitt coach Narduzzi claims that two schools made $5 million offers to North Carolina QB Drake May to transfer. Since he has not entered the portal, the offers were in violation of NCAA rules. This will get worse and the simple answer is to go back to the one year wait rule, which worked very well to maintain stability and to discourage greedy chaos. The NIL is also a negative influence, obviously.
I think the answer is change it to 6 years to play 4. All non-grad transfers sit out a year, no exceptions or hardship waivers. Only exception is grad transfers. If you get your degree, you’ve earned a no-sit transfer. That way you can redshirt and sit a year due to transfer and not lose a year of eligibility sitting on the bench. Portal is still there, so you can still move around, but it tamps down this madness. Boosters will be less willing to spend NIL money on a guy that can’t play right away, which will also help.

Smart post 🤓🧐

The NCAA was burned to a crisp at SCOTUS and has absolutely no desire to put any restrictions on player income or mobility that would have them back in Federal Court.

The ruling by the ncaa has no writing that indicated anything about transfers. Many organizations have rules for eligibility for moving. If the ncaa had a 1 year transfer sit out requirement and the SCOTUS overturned it they’d be blowing up a large number of organizations and there would be massive fallout (MSHSL included)

Would imagine at some point universities realize this is a no sum game with NIL and free transfers and put some language in their letter of intent that incorporates transfer rules. Coaches (and boosters) recruit and rerecruit every year is going to lead to increases in expenditures that won’t be sustainable. Pretty straightforward to just make that part of the “contract” language across the board, the same as some schools “guaranteeing” your scholarship for 4 years vs 1 year. Some schools can choose to not have it in language and kids can “negotiate” to remove it.

Would imagine eventually they’re all just going to have negotiated contracts. Only a matter of time now

Surely you jest that this SCOTUS would have concerns about precedent or any organizations.

Not saying that at all.
Saying trying to Limit NIL was directly contradicted by a recent court ruling written opinion. That case would likely lose if the NCAA wanted to have any limits on it. The ncaa knows this, so they aren’t trying to fight the battle.

Whereas sitting out for a transfer year does not currently have any rulings against it or even near it.
In fact, you still have to sit out a year on your second transfer. If the ncaa thought they couldn’t limit participation of transfers that wouldn’t exist.
Comparing the one time free transfer rule to the no limit NIL rule is legally comparing apples and oranges.
