We are also in section 413, which I am quite happy about. The sun won't be in our face the entire game.

But according to TCU fan forum http://www.killerfrogs.com/msgboard/index.php?/topic/183817-minnesota-is/ they are having a white out. Having all of those white shirts in the crowd could be just as powerful as the sun in our face.
It appears the Gophers are getting some reasonable respect from the Horned Frog fans. They expect a win, but aren't overly confident. One poster ranked us the 5th toughest opponent this year ahead of Ok. State, WVU, and TT. The 3pm start really sucks. It will be uber hot.
Hey there Gophers. I'm happy to answer any TCU/Fort Worth questions, looking forward to the Gophers coming down next week, and looking forward to visiting y'all up North next year.
Some decent advice from your resident Aggie/Fort Worthian and some other TCU lurkers. A few thoughts:
- Stay in Fort Worth. Dallas is a whole 'nother world.
- If going to a HS football game Friday: go to the Aledo game (not one in Dallas).
- Most will want to avoid the TCU-area bars post-game (Aardvark, Cellar, Pub, Rock Bottom, anything on Bluebonnet Circle, etc.). These are just blah college bars, nothing special, and most are 18-and-up kind of places -- I went to them in college, too, but if you're 21+, go to West 7th or Sundance Square (downtown).
- Tailgating options are very limited for visitors. If you can find a parking pass on stubhub etc., it's probably worth grabbing it. If it's a pass to a GA lot, make sure you arrive when the lot opens so you can get a good spot with tailgate space (e.g., Lot 13--you want a spot on the perimeter with the large grass area to set up in).
Thanks frog86. For those of us who are not planning to tailgate but plan to park and walk to the stadium, do you have any suggestions for a good place to park? We don't mind walking a bit so if there is an interesting place to park and walk to the stadium, any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Of course, let us know how we can be of assistance when you come north next year. I'll warn you of one thing in advance, many GH’s will tell you horrifying stories about life in the tundra and how cold and frostbite can get you if you don’t wear many layers of clothing ;-)
For reference, here's the TCU area map: http://www.maps.tcu.edu/
Parking may require some patience. TCU is in a residential area, and there's not much in terms of a general admission parking lot (there is just one on the corner of Bellaire Drive N and Bellaire Drive W that typically fills up long before the game). My advice may be a little outdated as I've had season parking the past few years, but we used to park in lots or on the streets over on East Campus (East of University Drive), specifically: North of the Library, Rees-Jones and Smith, and East of Harrison (see map link, above). If you park over there you can walk through the campus on your way to the stadium. That's probably around a 12-15 minute to walk from East Campus to the Stadium.
There are also paid parking/shuttle options at some more remote locations (mostly churches and schools in the area). There's a summary of them here: http://www.gofrogs.com/gameday/parking.html.
Food and drink are important so I'm going to throw out my favorites (area of Fort Worth in parenthesis):
- Best Burger: Rodeo Goat (West 7th); or Ducth's (TCU)
- Best Meal ($$$) & Environment: Reata (Downtown)
- Best Place for a Beer on the Patio (Downtown): Flying Saucer
- Best Breakfast (but not on Sunday): Paris Coffee Shop (Magnolia)
- Best Fort Worth Tex-Mex Experience: Joe T. Garcia's (Stockyards)
- Best Tex-Mex: La Familia (West 7th)
- Best Bar with Plenty of TVs: Frankie's (Downtown)
My Suggested Friday-Sunday Itinerary:
- Arrive D/FW around Noon, rent a car, stay at a hotel in Downtown (I'd suggest the Fort Worth Hilton, reasonable price for what you get, interesting fact: JFK spent his last night there before getting shot the next day in Dallas)
- Friday Afternoon: explore Fort Worth Stockyards
- Early Friday Evening: dinner at Joe T. Garcia's (cash only!) (protips: the patio is worth the wait, and while you're waiting in line for the patio, send someone in to one of the bars get a pitcher or two of margaritas (take an ID for each glass you need) to bring back and drink while you wait).
- Friday Evening: head back downtown, time and weather permitting explore Sundance Square, grab a beer at Flying Saucer on the patio.
- Saturday Morning: breakfast at Paris Coffee Shop (Magnolia Ave.) (protip: get there by 8:30 or the line gets long)
- Saturday Post-breakfast/pre-game: tailgate, football
- Saturday non-tailgating alternative--with kids: Fort Worth Museum of Science, lunch at The Woodshed or Rodeo Goat, Frog Alley, and football
- Saturday non-tailgating alternative--no kids: Anything in the Museum/W 7th District, lunch at The Woodshed or Rodeo Goat, Frog Alley, and football
- Saturday Evening: dinner at Reata (make reservations now for around 8:30--time to clean up after game); head to the rooftop bar after dinner, or if you want, explore the bar scene downtown.
- Sunday Brunch: Bird Cafe (Downtown), Brewed (Magnolia), AF+B (West 7th), Woodshed Smokehouse (University)
Note: if you're coming in Thursday afternoon, hit Joe T.'s on Thursday evening, the Stockyards Friday morning (lunch at any of the BBQ places, or if you want a burger go to the Love Shack), spend Friday afternoon in the Museum/W. 7th district (modern, kimbell, amon carter, or science museums, botanical gardens, or over at Chimy's drinking beer and margaritas), and then head over to Aledo to check out Texas High School football on Friday night.
I thought I had heard that there was going to be a Sota Social on Friday night as well as a Gopher tailgate party prior to the game. Does anybody know of any details on these or was I just imagining it? Thanks!

The real question is where is the best brisket in DFW area? I would make the trip for that alone.
This is a controversial topic. The BBQ wars are real down here, and people have very strong opinions. If you're looking across the whole DFW area (mind you, that's about an 80 mile radius), I'd say Pecan Lodge. If you're limiting your scope to Fort Worth, it's pretty tricky. There's a large contingent of folks who would say Angelo's. I think that place is no good. Cousin's is my favorite in Fort Worth for traditional BBQ. The Woodshed is the new/trendy BBQ joint by Tim Love (food network). Close by TCU and a fun place to go. There are dozens of articles/rankings you can check out in Texas Monthly, Fort Worth, Texas Magazine, D Magazine, Fort Worth Business Press, etc.
Your alumni assoc's 'Sota Social will be good. Capital Bar is in the West 7th/Museum District, north off University from TCU and just West of downtown. Blue Mesa is chain Tex-Mex, but it's alright.
You'll probably all be in a Gamma-shaped corridor starting at TCU, going North on University through the Zoo and University Park Village area (just South of I-30), the Trinity Park / Botanic Gardens area (just North of I-30), and into the Museum District (West side of University) and West 7th area (East side of University); turning right and proceeding East on 7th Street through the West 7th area, across the Trinity River and into downtown/Sundance Square. That's a 4-5 mile corridor. The only need you'll have to get out of that corridor is if you venture to the near-south side (aka Magnolia) on Magnolia Ave between 8th and Main (basically the little Austin district, south of downtown). Magnolia has some good spots---much more relaxed than the urban scene downtown and in west 7th, but a little hipster. Much more of a mid-to-late 20s/30s crowd. Local coffee shops (Avoca) and restaurant/coffee shop/bar (Brewed), local restaurants (Italian, Egyptian, Vegan, Burgers, Tex-Mex, organic, Thai, etc.), pubs/bars (probably a dozen or so). There's also breakfast Classic Paris Coffee Shop and some other throwback joints down the row. There's probably some special events to check out --- open streets or an arts gaggle or Friday on the green. Check out fortworthsouth.org if it sounds like an area that interests you. Rahr & Sons Brewery is nearby and probably has an open tap event Saturday morning. Good beer.
What is the best way to get tickets for those of us going that don't already have them? Will people be selling them around the stadium before the game? Price?
Thanks for all the info.
Getting a party bus. It's going to be awesome.
I'm not sure the game is officially a sell out. If not, getting them through gofrogs.com will be the simplest way. If it is, you might see scalpers out there, but since we don't consistently sell out, there's generally not a whole lot of them and they don't have an area near campus where they're well-known to hang out. You could try stub hub/ebay/craigs list, as there are usually plenty of tix on there. You might also check out TCU message boards like killerfrogs (if you can stand the petty griping over there) or The Frog Horn, as there are often people selling extras on there.
I think the average ticket has a face value of $30-$50, and the demand isn't usually enough to drive the prices in the secondary market up very much from there. Tickets in the club section are considerably more, I think. $100 or more I'd guess. I sat in the club section once, it's pretty overrated.

Kind of sucks they stick the away fans in 414 when there are plenty of better seats for cheaper.
Titty bar questions? I'm here.
Any casinos in the area?

I'm going to be staying at the DFW airport Hyatt this weekend. Any other Gopher fans going to be staying in that area?
