He re opened up his recruitment after pulling his verbal from L'Ville. Apparently we were first to offer after he de-comitted.

Jody Demling @jdemling

Quentin Snider's first scholarship offer after de-committing from Louisville comes from Minnesota per Snider's dad, Scott.

Sign him up! ;) In all seriousness, hope this is a short, and simple recruiting process, and maybe we land a top 30 player? Gotta wait now.

Edit: Sounds like he is blowing up. May be hard to interest now due to all the other big schools to contact him.

If he decommitted because he wants playing time right away and Richard has history recruiting this kid, I actually kind of like our chances.

Yeah, I've been reading up on him and what people are staying is that the only reason he decommitted is because he wasn't sure when he'd get the chance to play. It had nothing to do with not liking Rick Pitino or anything like that. You have to assume Rick gave Rich a little heads up which allowed him to be the first to call... Would be absolutely amazing if this was a quick, painless, move from one Pitino to the other! Even with all his other offers (25+) I could see him committing to Minnesota just b/c he obviously liked Rick's system and the Pitino's!

This is a good situation no matter what. Another PG on the "market" that might be considering us is good news and increases our chances of landing one. It's almost like a game of musical chairs right now.

Exactly. This was the best news to wake up to this morning. I've got a great feeling about this guy! Go Gophers!

Getting a few of L'ville's leftovers wouldn't be a bad thing.

Apparently he is already planning to visit Indiana later this month.

Another "full tilt" style point guard a la Peyton Siva, John Wall, Rose in college etc.

This seems to be Pitino's style as you see all of the point guards he has recruited thus far as the attacking style, or as I call them, full tilt style point guards that create by attacking the basket. While I would never in a million years say anyone would be a better fit in the Maroon in Gold than Tyus, but speaking from a strictly style perspective, Tyus isn't the best fit of the Pitino system. Tyus is a game manager, Chris Paul/Kyrie Irvin style, not the type that is going to get the outlet and push irregardless of odds simply because that's the team's tempo. I'm not saying Tyus couldn't do that, I'm implying he would be better suited to play to his greatest strength, which is managing the game and controlling the ball.

Richard wants long wings with athleticism, and point guards that will force the issue to create opportunities for those wings. And when it presents itself, a fearless rim attacking point guard will need to be able to finish at the hole and or force a shot to enable one of our bigs to trail and clean up. This kid is definitely one of those types of point guards per this highlight reel.

Tyus isn't the fastest or most dynamic point guard, but the first thing he does when he gets the outlet pass is look to push the tempo and get the ball up the court, so I'm not really sure what you're talking about here. He thrives in both uptempo games and managing games at a slower pace if needed. That's part of what makes him special. He can fit any style.

One of the better posts I've seen on GH lately. Agree 100%.

Agree or disagree, Tyus is more valuable in the half court than the full court?

Never did I say Tyus couldn't push the tempo. Nor did I say he wasn't special, or that I wouldn't want him in a heartbeat. he's a different style point guard than the ones Pitino recruits, plain and simple. He's still the best PG in the class, and anyone who claims they want someone over him is stupid. I'm just saying he might have a slight conflict of styles if he were to come here, Pitino would have to adjust his style to fully utilize Tyus' skill set.

Darren Wolfson (@DarrenWolfson) tweeted at 11:52 AM on Thu, Aug 01, 2013:Verified the #Gophers offered Q. Snider, @MNJohnSports24 (@jdemling had first). Source on chances: "He's wide open. No clue. It's so early."

Hard to say man. I think he's incredible in a half court offense, but how much have you seen him play? I've never seen a guy who can get a rebound or outlet pass and spot an open player down the court quicker than Tyus, nor have I seen a player thread the needle on those long passes quite like Tyus can. He isn't a blur with the ball in transition like some guys, but the ball moves faster when you pass it than it does when you dribble. I think he's extremely valuable in both, and idealy for his game I think option one is pushing the ball and playing uptempo, but when it isn't there he can slow it down. Offensively I think he would fit our system great, it's on the defensive side where some other guys would fit a little better.

I couldn't disagree more. Tyus would be excellent in Pitino's system or anyone else's for that matter. One of Tyus' best skills is pushing the ball and feeding open team mates. He makes everone around him better. That is the primary reason he is the number one rated PG in the country.

This kid is a prefect fit for us. The PG for '14 won't be a "one and done." A one and done won't come to back up Dre. Snider would really bloom in Rich's system. The road to the NBA. Perfect fit for Gophers, perfect fit for Snider.

Maybe if i stated that Pitino isn't the best guy for tyus you all wouldn't think I'm saying tyus isn't capable of pushing the ball....because that is definitely not what I said....

If its anything of worth, Snider's dad seems to be vocal about his interest in the Gophers. Hoping his son feels the same way!

Correct me If I'm wrong but isn't tweeting a recruit a NCAA rules violation? I would highly advise against any fans tweeting recruits. If you are not a media member or a coach I would stay out of it and keep the team we follow safe from penalties. Trust that Pitino doesn't need our help besides a good show of support for him and the team we have.

if casual fans tweeting to athletes was a violation, I don't think there would be one big recruit in teh country with any eligibility. It is part of the recruiting game

Timmy, I love your attention to the rules..... but you're just straight up crazy to think that us clowns have any morales when it comes to getting a plug in for our squad..... and if it's up to US to conform to these rules..... then that's even more asinine.

Well actually any direct contact initiated by fans is considered a violation(looked up to make sure). It's not against the players eligibility it would be taken out in sanctions against the school if the NCAA really wanted to(often times they don't and or they don't have the manpower to police it.)

@madman,
My sister is a women's basketball coach so I know some of these things. Sorry you don't respect the institutions well enough to follow the rules set forth by them. I'll be quiet now. carry on like i didn't say anything.
