Sounds like Finn Loftus coming to Minnesota, so that should round out the defense. Wasn’t sure we’d get him, but solid pickup.

I’d have to think that means Harper is staying in juniors, don’t know why he’d come in young just to most likely be 7th guy. Also maybe a Phillips decommit?

Smith - Murr
Loftus - Henricks
Rombach - Whipple

Some sort of combo like that looks pretty damn deep. Could see Smith start the year out on the bottom pair now.

was how I took it. smart on his side as well. smaller guy and will just turn 18 at start of season so come in ready to rock in your draft year rather than struggle in your D-1 year.

Most of the excitement for him this year I think was driven by many of us who saw zero dynamism from the D group last year and he would add that, but would likely have a tough time in the D zone. Another year to get bigger and stronger and work on that side.
 


Another left hander which isn't ideal but whatever.

If Smith doesn't come you bring in Harper in desperation, probably. Should close out any hope of Dupont.

Seeing some saying Harper might bail, though. Maybe MSU/UND/BC/BU will bring him in and Gophers wanted to delay him.

I wonder a little bit of if Dupont has looked at how Verhoeff's year went and is going to decide to stay up in Canada.

Or that he wants to play at UND cuz I'm sure Verhoeff would give it rave reviews. And Chyzyk is up to something big.

Think it’d be odd for him to go there with Verhoeff returning. Dupont would literally be taking Verhoeff’s first pair and top power play spot as another right shot. Don’t see it likely.

Also they wouldn’t have that type of money to add him with the people they’re keeping unless they’re paying some of those top guys absolutely nothing.

He'll go to UND if he wants to go on the cheap. Most likely, he'll go to UM/MSU/PSU because they get have the dough.
 


Regardless no Dupont is fine, this d core looks deep and exactly the pieces we needed. Larson was not lying, these kids will be battling for their spot every week. He’s not messing around at all.
 





Welp it seems like Harper may have decommited, guess that answers that question lol. That sucks, but probably shows that he just wants to play college next year and we don’t have room.

Lofgren as well correct? And I don’t know anything about Loftus but you think he’s a solid add?

Lofgren has to come next year as he ages out, and he’s ready. Probably will be 7th d

Loftus took a nice step this year and looked solid, will most likely be a really good 3rd pair guy for this team this year and can move up if needed pretty seemlessly.

You are underestimating Lofgren he can absolutely compete for playing time with Rombach and Loftus and even Whipple if he doesn't take a step

Rombach improved as the year went on but yeah he’s definitely still at a point where he needs to earn his spot every night.

Lofgren being a 7th D seems to indicate a deep group. The overhaul from this past season is noticeable on paper.
 

Yeah I think Lofgren is good and can certainly challenge the bottom 4. Don’t think saying he’s probably 7th defenseman right now is a knock on him, it looks like it will be a deep core right now and there will be a lot of competing for spots the whole year. Crazy that it’s day one of the portal and Larson already has me saying that lol
 

Cullen Potter confirmed to MSU.

6 first rounders on their roster so far with the number likely to go up.

Vegoe is hinting a lot about a first rounder D from CHL.

Maybe he will take Souch and be able to steal Carels. Souch is a center but unfortunately bad on draws which has been the weakness two years in a row.
 

Losing Harper of course sucks but the fact that we are in position to process a guy like that out when you look at how bad our D was last year is kind of amazing.
