All Things Players Coming and Going (26-27 Off-Season)

Hunter Hady (Michigan) into the portal. Didn't play much last year so not suprising there.

William Ahlrik (LSSU) into the portal. Their leading scorer and 55% on the dot taking the most draws for that team

I don't think he's good enough to be a 1C or 2C on a contender. Rickwood had 35 points and 57.5% FO before going to UND.

cant say I know much of anything of his game. 2 years of eligibility so tough to compare apples to apples (vs Rickwood who was going into his last year after playing on a pretty dynamic Clarkson team), but really big jump in year 2 on a team that didn't score it well. He also kills penalties.

You could do much worse down the middle

This is the kind of guy you're waiting for. Otherwise should be scouring CHL.

i was just posting as he's in the portal.

Agree we should be scouring the CHL (and you absolutely also look to upgrade with high end talent so one would hope that Larson has at least made contact with the Rucks even if it would mean pushing out or decommitting someone).

Rucks are wingers, too. They'll probably end up elsewhere as the Gophers are stacked at wing.

Roed could be your 2C not sure why he hasn't come over yet.

No real interest in Burrows

Markus has been viewed as a C/W prospect (has won 190 draws this year; not great, but not bad for a guy who doesn't take a ton).

Only listed Burrows due to the ties here. I don't think that would be one we'd target but I guess never know.

We've had enough guys that can maybe be centers. They VERY rarely pan out there in college. We need centers that have been playing center.

I guess I'm viewing it as we need 2 centers imo and you take someone who's not necessarily the faceoff specialist if the talent is there and then you can find one additional one who maybe plays down the lineup but can take your important draws (would be how I'd view someone like Roed)

If someone is the total package 1C, then thats fine and easier. Just those are much more challenging to land

They need to focus on getting talented centers and if they only win 45% of their faceoffs then whatever, it likely isn't going to impact their ability to win games. I've never seen any evidence that faceoffs correlate to expected goals, shot attempts for/against, possession or any important metric. Obviously if you're cleanly losing 100% of draws on the PP, empty net situations, or draws in your own zone that'd be a problem but that's never the case. The other thing is, I'm not sure % of draws won in some junior league where the oldest players are 20 is necessarily going to translate to college where you now have to go against bigger 24 year olds or whatever. Faceoffs seem to come down to strength more than anything and the Gophers are typically a younger team who aren't going to have the advantage there.

I think it’s important to be maybe in the top 30 for faceoff percentage, but it’s not the end all be all. Denver was 25th or something this year.

This one would get me fired up.

Denver got outshot heavily in their final 2 games in a row and their goalie stole both to win it all. IDK if they would've played like that against Wisconsin if they didn't play a 3 OT game 34 hours prior but either way that's probably not a strategy that they'd ideally replicate much less the Gophers (other than getting a similar caliber goalie (Luca might actually be that when he's on, hard to say).

Sounds like Harper will end up at Michigan. Cool
seems like the Harper decommit is getting more traction as is Michigan to play with his brother, but that they don't have room for him for next year either. Will be really curious to see where he ends up.

The brother does not look to have great production

PSU here they come

Matthew Mania (Michigan) and Quentin Miller (DU goalie) into the portal

As always it'll be interesting to see how those two and the new Mankato goalie do compared to LDP/Strahl.

I will feel ok with the comp if our new d core doesn’t give up a million back door tap ins and breakaways next year. They hung LDP out to dry a crazy number of times last year

My only knock on LDP is that he's a little bit inconsistent but could prob say that about nearly any goalie, especially if they were playing on last year's team. I like what we have with him, he seems more capable of stealing games than Close, Souliere, LaFontaine (other than that one year) or most Gopher goalies I can think of post-Wilcox.
