There is truth to this or Pitino would have refuted the rumor.
Don't buy this at all. Coaches don't speak out every time a report mentions them as a candidate for another job.

Amelia, agents, and the rest of the jackals reeled you folks in. Idiots.
I believe there is some fire to this smoke but certainly not saying he's making the jump. If my Boss found out a competitor was actively trying to recruit me away and I valued my job, I'd be in his Office assuring him that I'm not going anywhere. Of course, I could be lying to my Boss. The silence we hear from Teague and Richard the last few days could be telling as well.
If a competitor is actively trying to recruit you away to coach his basketball team, it's up to your boss to assure you he doesn't want you to go anywhere.
Or maybe because we haven't heard from Teague and Richard, it's a package deal?
Is Alabama a respected basketball coaching job at all? To me it seems like the same level as Minnesota at best. Yet there are talks they could get Gregg Marshall or Shaka or take Patio from us. I don't get it...
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
If he wants to leave he wants to leave, it really wouldn't be that big of deal. My hope is that Teague's next coach would be a guy at interested in making the tourney before jumping ship.
With where we are at in recruiting- it would be a disaster. We have 6 returning players. If Pitino left and some of the recruits followed- we have a serious mess that sets the program back another few years. If it is serious, Teague may have to get the U to pony up some cash as Pitino is on the bottom end of the pay scale. Barring a big time hire attendance would take a major hit.
This is overly cynical - and doesn't suggest this is going on - but it's the perfect situation in which to hold your employer hostage. It's the nuclear threat.
Then Teague should counter with " there is not a nickel more until you have earned it " He can put an end to it by telling him has two hours to make a decision. That will call the bluff on the agent because he is not being pursued by anybody at a better program.
no losing seasons because of really weak scheduling. I think he can win here but he has not proven he can build a winner. not even remotely a coaching star. You get that when you win something meaningful or win at a place where few have won

Alabama is a much better job than minneota. Bama actually has a football team that can fund and subsidize the basketball program. Pitino is a very good young and up and coming coach. The fact bama can offer higher profile coaches 3.5 million as reported, says quite a bit as a department comitted to winning. I would say that if I were richard, I would have a much better chance to win in the SEC and in Alabama. Sorry to be blunt Gopher fans, but as of now, the Univeristy of Minnesota is a mediocre job with a lot of potential. There have been decades of athletic departmment mismanagement that is coming home to roost as colege athletics have evolved. Until we create a culture of winning at the U, we should expect more of the same, rumors of coaches leaving, medicre recruiting classes, and sub par B1G performance.
We have zero idea if he is an up and coming coach and I like him.Alabama is a much better job than minneota. Bama actually has a football team that can fund and subsidize the basketball program. As somebody once said on this site, I think it gets back to whether or not Pitino thinks he can recruit here. He went for the moon in year one and didn't land anybody. Does he think he can continue to take steps forward in the program with fringe top 100 guys or dramatically improve the recruiting in the future? Or not? That (and an extra million or two per year) is probably the deciding factor, in my opinion.

MadtownGopher;1043763I think he really likes how the Gophers are the only D-1 program in the state. Less competition going after in-state talent.[/QUOTE said:Is that why he's only offered one player from Minnesota in the current recruiting class and appeared to make only a perfunctory run at last year's group? He throws the verbal bone to the sentimental tribal types here and there ("securing the borders"), but the evidence so far doesn't indicate that he puts much priority on recruiting in-state.
Clem took a team with a couple fringe top 100 guys to the Elite Eight. The idea that you can't win at Minnesota is a cop out.
