All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

Gotta lol at you guys. Manhattan KS in a shitty conference.
They won for three decades prior to his arrival, and all the blue bloods left the conference. In a shitty conference is part of my point. If you can’t win a shitty conference why would he win here?

U guys use “it’s impossible to win big at Mn” as a crutch for all our and PJ ills. I personally think to say it’s easier to win at KSU is nonsensical. We are in the power conference along with the SEC, we have all kinds of money flowing in, have a great stadium, nice facilities — I guess I just have more regard for The U and our standing in the world than you.

Bill Snyder is either dead or close to it.

I can see a helmet school being sold on the idea that, with upper-echelon resources, PJ could be hugely successful. And if I’m PJ and his reps I’m selling those schools on the fact that he has achieved success despite getting relatively zero support from Minnesota. Not saying I agree, but I can 100% see that happening.
Has to be a school that wants to run a late 20th Century Tressel/Schiano offense. Wisconsin?!

Simply being in a power conference doesn’t make it easier to win. What advantage do we have over anyone else in our power conference? So you must think what Klieman has done at KSU is more impressive than what Fleck has done here.

I was joking in my original post about Lindsey going to Arkansas and bringing Fleck with him, but it is the only way Fleck ends up at Arkansas.

Fleck's approach will not be received well in the SEC. He'd be a fool to try it.
If former Arkansas coach Houston Nutt is any indication. Arkansas fans would be okay with PJ’s schtick. Nutt is still beloved by a large part of their fanbase and had the nickname of the “reverend” because of his sermons and schtick with the fanbase when coaching there.

Once again this thread can be moth-balled for the year.

It is funny, because I realize we're stuck with PJ and he's stuck with us. We're not going to fire him because he runs a clean program, does a ton in the community and wins half his games. That said, no top program is ever going to take a chance on him because he only wins half his games. Its a stalemate.

If he is ever going to leave this would be the year. There are a lot of good jobs open or soon to be open and not a lot of high end coaching talent out there. PJ may be 5th or more on a schools wish list and still get the job because they struck out on all the other guys.

Even though we won, I can't see any big time program watching this offense and saying oh yeah sign me up for that.

Because we have a 19 year old QB with a huge upside, who is still learning the game at this speed, running it?

Good take

Define half. Big Ten only?

Iowa State's 2025 season has had the wheels fall off.
He checks a lot of boxes. ISU is a tough place to win at and like Fleck he’s done very well compared to the recent history of the program. He knows the region. I think he would be a safe bet to maintain the floor that Fleck established, while still having as good a shot as anyone to provide a higher ceiling.

I attended a game down there this year. They love him and would pay whatever it takes to keep him IMO.

If you think the love for a Native Son (Nutt) who embraces his Southern roots and is in tune with the people of Arkansas and the South can be confused with PJ's approach to running HIS program, you are mistaken.

That said, the emphasis in the SEC (my comment wasn't just Arkansas) has always been on winning, period. However you feel about it, PJ's focus is broader. In the SEC, the school and fans won't care about it if he doesn't challenge for the SEC championship on a regular basis. Not sure that is the right environment for PJ to try to operate in.

How likely is it that Tim Walz would step in and fire Mark Coyle to make sure the football team was successful? PJ would be smart to stay where he is. Unless and until something major happens off the field under Fleck's watch, or he decides he's had enough, PJ will be the head coach of the University of Minnesota.
