All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

Maybe you were going for humor, but no way you hire a head coach to get a QB.

That said, if Fleck did go to Arkansas it would be a near certainty that Lindsey would go with him.
I'm fully acknowledging that it is not the same thing, but it could be argued that Arkansas hired Gus Malzahn as OC and QB coach in 2006 as a package deal with Mitch Mustain.

Malzahn was the head coach at Mustain's high school (Springdale, Ark)

68 pages of nonsense.
You do realize .... one day Fleck will no longer be the coach of Minnesota, right? It's guaranteed to be true, one day.

The thing for Fleck is pretty simple at this point going forward:

- he fully understands that college football is rigged. Programs like Minnesota will never be allowed to hoist the national championship trophy.
- IF that's something he still dreams about doing ... he will have to go elsewhere to attempt to do it.
- Or maybe that's not something he cares about anymore. Maybe he's content to stay here and be Kirk Ferentz of the north.

How is college football rigged, in your opinion? I’m not sure if you mean outright racketeering or you’re eluding to the great disparity in NIL funds.

It seems like parity has gotten better tbh.

Not baiting / assume positive intent, my friend.

If his focus truly is RTB and developing a culture and legacy of leaders outside of football without the extreme pressure to win titles, this is the place to be

I don’t know what your point is really mine more is that those rednecks wouldn’t touch PJ with a 10 foot pole.

The only thing I would say about fleck is there is an odd circumstance in the Venn diagram

All the teams in one circle are significant enough upgrades where they wouldn’t want fleck

The other teams are significant enough downgrades fleck wouldn’t want them.

Not sure who is in the middle.
If Arkansas really has the money some claim, they don’t want Fleck. If they don’t he doesn’t want them.

I think Virginia tech is the most likely job I’ve seen so far this cycle

That’s true. If Adam Weber’s kid is ever a quarterback at Kansas state we should sell the farm to get their coach
(Granted after today this is all probably out the window)

To make your analogy actually apples to apples, we'd have to upgrade all of the following:
- some SEC team, to keep it at an even Big Ten/SEC ... not degraded down to Big 12
- a team that had been down but the current coach brought them back up to respectability, though not contending
- not sure what would be the best match there, or why a Minnesota high school QB would end up the starter there, but let's go with ... Mississippi State, as a hypothetical? (I'm not talking about their current HC, this is a hypothetical HC that had brought MSU up in the same sense that Fleck has brought Minnesota up)
- it would have to be a MN high school QB that was 6'5" (minor detail, but folks love it when a good QB is also tall), throwing for huge yards, a state champion, and Mr. Minnesota player of the year. And be a legacy.
- That somehow was only a 3* rated recruit, and that Minnesota did not offer because our current regime made a terrible decision
- And then we fired the current regime mid-way through the season.
- (This last bit might be the biggest reach by me here) We (Minnesota) would be paying the MSU coach let's say $10M a year, that it would take to actually get him up here ... because we were going to pay that to whomever we could hire, anyway.

Now we're cooking

Virginia Tech isn't a better job. While the ACC is easier to contend in, it's also little brother to the Big Two. And VT isn't one of the top 5 jobs in the ACC anymore. Peak Frank Beamer was a unicorn. They haven't been really good for a long time. They are way behind not just Miami and FSU, but also Clemson, GT and even UVa, SMU etc.

Sure. Anyone would. But it lays 1/5 of a buyout for a major program. Covers 75% of a coaches salary for 1 year. It’s just not majorly impactful.
The original post I quoted said "Jerry Jones a notoriously cheap person".

I don't think that holds water when giving away $10M to you alma mater.

The way they're playing and totally unprepared I'm wondering if Fleck got a job offer somewhere this week and took it

On the one hand, LOL. On the other hand, the Gopher defense looked like today's squad the last few weeks of 2023 when Rossi bailed for MSU. It's a real thing.

But Fleck doesn't call the plays, on either side, and he doesn't make sure the coordinators are doing their jobs well.

Unless they're going too
