All Things Nolan Winter Recruitment Thread (Class of 2023, Gophers Offered, Son of Trevor)

I’ve heard the mom is a piece of work. Yes, we want Nolan, but this is far from a devastating blow. More in terms of perception than actual program changing talent. You shouldn’t have to convince a local kid to play here. If his heart isn’t in it, then f$&& off, in my opinion. Next…

Ben was supposed to clean this stuff up and keep a kid like this here. If Ben is different, he keeps him here.
First of all everyone is jumping to conclusions. Let’s see how this pans out. If he decides on the Skunks 🦨 so be it. From what I’ve read Ben has made this kid a priority. Hell, Nolan has even been quoted saying the Gophers have made him a priority. Both his parents were Gophers, perhaps he wants to blaze his own trail. How in an intelligent way do you put that on Ben?

This is big time athletics. You either get him or you don't. Also, it's one thing if he goes to Stanford or Tennessee. But no, he is going to the team that has owned us and is our chief rival. He is going to the skunks. BRUTAL

Ben was hired to put an end to this type of stuff. The gophers offered him first, dad is a legacy gopher, and we still don't get him. This is a bad look for the program.

Winter may or may not end up being a player. this is a bad look, though.

No, it's not BRUTAL. If we have a good coach...there's no reason to be afraid of WI and their 7-foot white perimeter players.

And no, it's not a bad look. A bad look would be losing Coffey to WI. Or Burton or Newbern's kid. This is Trevor Winter we're talking about. He sucked, let's be honest.

I respectfully disagree. To me a bad look is putting very little time or effort into the recruitment and then making an offer at the last minute like our previous coach did. Ben has made Winter a priority. Your right this is big time athletics and you don’t win them all. In sales you can do everything right but you can’t control the buyers decision. If he decides on the Badgers that’s on him not Ben.

Hate to break this to you, but no it’s me will stop some players going to ISU or Wisconsin. Some kids want to leave town but also stay close and those are the high major options for that kid. Ben was hired to win games. Coyle felt Ben’s ability to bridge relationships with the local basketball community is one of the reasons why he thinks Ben can win here. His roster is over half filled with MN kids. I’d say he’s hitting the MN quota. The issue will be if he loses these battles at an 80% clip from then its something to worry about.

If we don't get Winter, another poster mentioned how the Lakeville North coaches have been very impressed with Ben, hopefully the same thoughts coming from Howard Pulley as well. My gut tells me Wisconsin, hope I'm wrong.

I know I'm being paranoid, but is anyone else concerned that he's announcing it via Twitter? I mean if he's announcing for the Gophers, than why not do it in front of a packed gym with the local news stations there? Please....someone talk me off the ledge.....

Bro I think you belong on a ledge.

That first step is a doozy, but rest assured, you only have to take one😃

Well yes, the effort was there, but we didn't get him.

This was supposed to be Ben's calling card. I'm actually surprised he didn't land him.
We're not going to go 100. I'm going to focus on wins , but you do you. Someone needs to take bb's role

He’s a biblical plague on to himself on the OTB

Locusts got nothing on him

Plus he’ll be back in 2 years

I reiterate that I want a Clem Haskins type team. Or Tubby's NCAA team...but with Royce White & Trevor Mbakwe added to it like it should have been.

I don't want a team full of Reuvers, Carlsens, Illikainens, Winters, etc.

I’m sensing a beige bias

I'm starting to sense that not only are you dumb, but you've got a bit of a race problem with white folk. You're embarassing yourself and all other Gopher fans with the attempts to belittle a high school student and now his parents because he POTENTIALLY isn't picking your favorite teams school. You definitely seem like someone who has been around here before and has gotten the boot. If the dumb posting continues, I hope it happens again.

Ben is different! Hes in on a 5 star that never would have happened with Pitino as coach. I'm not gonna judge Ben on one Minnesota recruit!

Pitino was on multiple 5*'s when he first started here. Him missing them is why they were terrible in year 3. Let's hope Ben doesn't follow the same path.

stopped over at Buckyville, and their posts seem to also say that he's headed there. I'm a bit surprised that he didn't pick MN.

I wouldn't blame this on Ben though. I'm giving him some time. If he didn't want to play at a "city school", well, there sure isn't anything Ben could do about that.
