All Things Minnesota Wild 2022-2023 In-Season Thread

Well, Minnesota sports misery marches on. I guess the Twins are next in line.

Is it over? Can I turn on kfan after 7 P.M. and not hear grown men playing a kids game? Whew! Finally.

Damn. Hard as it might be to be a wild fan right now imagine what it's like to be a bruins fan. All-time record for wins and out they go.

I don’t ever want this wild team to say they have Grit First after watching what these other teams are doing in the playoffs. The wild folded like a cheap suit as soon as anything went against them. They have no-showed in two straight series after going up 2-1 in both series.

Gotta be therapeutic for Panthers' fans, though. Since they got the President Trophy last year and then choked in the 2nd round. Good for them.

And then Kraken win their first-ever series against the defending champs. Our team is so frustrating.

How frustrating that the team ran to the conference final in their third season and haven't sniffed anything close to that since. I remember the GM saying right after that run that it was too much too soon and they needed to get younger. Well, mission accomplished, Doug.

I generally don't watch much non-Wild NHL action (unless I am parked in a Vegas sportsbook) but both Game 7s were highly entertaining. Great theater.

I also really like the TBS coverage. They are putting as much into the production as they do for NBA, MLB and NCAA Tourney. Good stuff.

Me, too! I couldn't take my eyes off both of those games.

I wandered for a bit to watch Barry (the HBO TV show not Melrose the ESPN talking hairdo), but caught back up on puck via DVR.

Florida squandering a 2 goal lead, trail late only to score 6 on 5 then win in OT at the New Garden was fantastic.

No wonder he couldn’t play and boy did the Wild miss him

I strongly disagree with this. This team has overachieved the past two years. No way will they fire him. This season, we had one bonafide superstar, one top level defensemen, one do-it-all-guy, one possible superstar, one goalie on social security, one unproven goalie and the rest interchangeable parts. With this group, they were in the running until the last week to be the top team in the west.

The series is 1-1. Let's all settle down. If the games were reversed, we would all be pretty pleased right now.

By the way, I agree that Gustavsson probably should have started game 2. But it also wouldn't have surprised me if Fleury had shut them down.
If they don't win, Evason wouldn't necessarily be let go right away. All it would take is a cool stretch next regular season, and just like that...out.
no way Dean's job is on the line.

Don't forget, the Wild is still working out from dead cap hell thanks to Suter and Parise. Guerin can't make any big moves, and they had to let Fiala go because they couldn't afford to keep him. that is not on the coach.

considering what he has to work with, I think Dean has done a solid job. it's not about winning now - it's about being positioned to do something when the dead cap is gone and the team has room to make moves, along with all of the prospects they have accumulated. some of the hockey websites have ranked the Wild as having the #1 farm system in the NHL. in a couple of years, when the cap space returns and the next wave of prospects arrive, that is when things could get really interesting.
"No way"? It's the NHL. HCs generally do not have a long shelf life.

It's certainly possible that he's not in Minnesota next April.
So...ummm... yeah. Nailed it

You are on a roll! Turkey of the Year, now this?! Hats off to thee, @Ope3. Now, who will Guerin trade - you know he ain’t done….Hartman?
The bigger question is how much equity does Guerin have with Leopold to weather this slide?

He must have sold him on this buyout plan, so I would think through next year. However if they really crash, tenuous at best.

4 in a row for deano! Now he can go to all the Broadway shows he wants to and never miss a team meeting.

4 in a row. Boldy with a pair. E-EK, Foligno and Kaprizov with one each. Finally getting some help scoring for previous lone wolf E-EK. Even Johansson snaps 10 game scoreless streak. Gus played well- didn’t have to work too hard. Zucc extends scoring streak and is on pace for 90+ points, which would put him in elite company for a 36+ year old NHLer.

Keep it up. Road trip is 4 games in 6 days. Next up Canucks , who have been beating up on recent Stanley Cup champions in its past several games.

Matt Boldy's 3-point game powers Wild to a 5-2 win over the Flames

CALGARY, Alberta -- — Matt Boldy scored twice and had an assist, leading the Minnesota Wild to a 5-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.

Kirill Kaprizov had a goal and an assist, and Marcus Foligno and Joel Eriksson Ekalso scored for the Wild (9-10-4), who improved to 4-0-0 since Jon Hynes replaced Dean Evason as head coach Nov. 27.

“A lot of credit to Jon. He’s come in and just established what he wants us to do and play like and it’s a lot faster,” Wild forward Marcus Foligno said.

“Our breaking out is a lot better than it has been. We’re big and strong and we needed to get faster. Guys are snapping the puck around tape to tape. It’s a lot easier when you play like that and … it’s a kick in the butt when you get a coach fired.”

Minnesota has outscored its opponents 18-5 in the four games since the coaching change. Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson had 28 saves and improved his career mark against Calgary to 4-0-1..

I like that Foligno seems to be looking in the mirror and I’m betting he’s challenged all his teammates to do the same. That’s good leadership, if that’s the case, which I bet it is.

Right there with ya Jake. Hynes has them playing hard and disciplined. Now they get these next 2 against Vancouver and Edmonton then I’m fully on the Hynes bus

I hate to be "that guy" but why does this conversation continue taking place in the thread for last season? The thread for the current season is halfway down the page.
