All Things Minnesota Wild 2022-2023 In-Season Thread

State of hockey =/

Through 3 games (all at the X) the Wild have held the lead for 0.0 seconds.

Uff da.
Holy shit.

Kaprizov has five points in 3 games (3G, 2A) and he's a whopping (-8) in the (+/-) Department. That's really hard to do honestly.

To add insult to injury, next offseason they have Free Agent decisions to make on 10 current players on the 22-man roster as of today. The only major upside is the farm system does have a number of very, very highly rated prospects

And now the tie is gone.

Brodin, Hartman, and Goligoski have been absolutely terrible this year.

Made my first appearance at the X last night to see the Wild salvage 2 points on the homestand. Decent game, Fleury was solid. Even the goals he let in, not sure many other goalies would have stopped.

Tough loss cause the Flower was great in the last 2 periods and overtime. Not converting on a 5-3 power play is tough to overcome.

Don’t look now the wild are 3-0-1 in their last 3 and the flower is in full bloom.
Caught a a chunk of the 2nd and 3rd periods. The Wild were absolutely destroying the the Sens but couldn't get the 4-1 lead, then took a penalty a the end that really seemed to shift momentum for a while. Still, nice play by Gaudreau to get the empty netter for a 2nd road win in 3 days.

Checked in on Kevin Fiala. He's off to a blazing start with 3 goals, 10 assists in 12 games. He's been blanked only 3 times (in a row Oct 18-22).

Compare to Kaprizov:

8 G, 5 Assists in 10 games.

Wonder if the right move would have been to let Dumba go.......

0 G, 2 Assists in 10 games

Obviously, Dumba plays defense, but that group had a horrific first few games. I'd like to see a few more points from Dumba.............and Rossi, presumably Fiala's replacement, has 0 G, 1 assist (last night illegally, above his shoulders, but they affirmed the goal b/c it wasn't 100% clear).

This is very debatable, no?

well, the conventional wisdom is that the franchise has accumulated a lot of talented younger players in the recent drafts, and the Iowa team is supposed to have some solid players.

looks like they might have to accelerate the learning curve for some of those kids until the veterans get healthy.

bottom line - as long as the Flower is playing well, he can keep them in games. he may have to stand on his head for a couple of weeks to get them through this stretch.

The schedule is not terrible for the next 6 until they play Carolina. Several of the games against below 500 teams so at least this is a good time for some injuries.

Dumba will be dumped in the offseason for cap space.

Glad this game was on Hulu and not BSN. All I can say is woof. Shutout after a 5 day break and they looked totally uninterested in playing. Have not scored a goal for over 123 minutes of play.

HACK AND SLASH

Kirill Kaprizov received a match penalty for a retaliatory cross-check to the jaw of Doughty with 5:12 remaining in the second period. Evason said Kaprizov's frustration spilled over because of a lack of protection from the officials.

“He has the puck all the time,” Evason said. "He’s getting so much attention. He has it, he’s spinning back and forth, and there’s no calls. Even prior to that call, he’s getting cross-checked and mauled, and it’s like, he’s frustrated. We’re all frustrated because it’s not taken care of, and there’s rules. Obviously, we feel that there should be some more penalties called on a player of his stature who has the puck all the time. It’s not happening.”

It should not have even been a penalty as he hit him with his glove on the stick. That being said the wild were terrible last night.

That can’t be good..it’s almost like they bet on Dumba over Fiala and it’s failing miserably. Freddy G does not deserve to be on the 1st line.

Shows how much of an overreaction the refs made last night. Which is funny cause in hockey almost everything is an under reaction from the refs. They will let blatant cross checks go on for minutes and never call a penalty.
