Per Shooter:

Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore, the business partners who 18 months ago agreed to buy the Timberwolves and Lynx from Glen Taylor for $1.5 billion, have received permission from Taylor to delay a second $200 million payment that was due five weeks ago.

The reason for the delay is unclear. The second $200 million payment is now due on March 28. By the end of the year, another payment, expected to be more than $400 million that would include buying out the teams’ limited partners, will be due.

Rodriguez on Wednesday told Taylor he and Lore still plan to buy the Wolves and Lynx and will be able to finance the deal.

The NBA’s board of directors hasn’t yet approved the sale.

Taylor doesn’t seem concerned by the missed payment. If the deal falls through, he probably would retain ownership of his teams rather than put them back on the market. In December, an agreement to buy the Phoenix Suns and WNBA Mercury was reached for a record $4 billion. Since Taylor’s agreement to sell to Rodriguez and Lore, four NBA teams have sold for at least $2 billion.

Really looking forward to this midseason battle between potential playoff teams and the 1st and 2nd place teams in the NW division.

Malone was complaining before the game about how unfair the scheduling for tonight's game was. They played at home last night. Said it happened the last 2 times they played the Wolves too.

Jim Peterson pointed out that it happened to the Wolves too the last time they played out in Denver.

So they can't play back to back nights anymore? Is the 2 hour private flight too taxing for elite athletes in their 20s?

Apparently Malone and Calvin Booth think so. Seems silly to me. Denver is only one time zone away. Maybe they read all the stuff about how the Wolves don't "show-up" when they play a lesser team so they tried to create one.;)

They should have filed that police report.

The Pacers group did not file a police report, apparently out of fear, but the team did tell the NBA — which launched a probe into the incident. Several individuals have been banned from the arena, but the league did not confirm who they are nor if a weapon was involved. The Grizzlies declined to comment other than to say it “complied completely” with the NBA’s investigation.
 

Wolves beat Denver 128-98. Wolves got McLaughlin back and Anderson and Prince played. Denver came in tied for the best record in the NBA. Though as mentioned earlier in the thread, that team didn't play. Malone kept four starters back in Denver. Not so coincidentally Wolves go out and play the Nuggets Tuesday night. Then head to Utah to play the Jazz Wednesday Night.

Maybe to counter Malone's gamesmanship, no Wolves starter played more than 32 minutes.

Trade deadline is Thursday. Maybe took Finch too long to realize that Russell is much better when he's not handling the ball, but it seemed to have worked. Still say they need to trade him but not until after the season ends.

"Since the middle of December, the new starting lineup of Gobert, Anderson, Edwards, Russell and Jaden McDaniels has a net rating of 13.3 points per 100 possessions, per NBA.com, including a paltry 98.5 defensive rating.

Towns was still in a walking boot late last week and is not expected back until after the Wolves come back from the All-Star break. But getting McLaughlin back is no small thing. The Wolves are 7.1 points per 100 possessions better on offense and 12.0 points better on defense when he is on the court, per Cleaning The Glass, a whopping 19.1 net rating that is among the best in the league.

“He’s a great PG, real PG,” McDaniels said. “Yeah, I feel like I play better when he’s on the court, for sure.”

With Edwards and Anderson having success initiating the offense with the first unit and McLaughlin now back to help do the same with the second unit, suddenly point guard does not seem to be as glaring a need as it once was.

“For so much of the season, we missed probably three of our top eight rotation guys,” Finch said, adding Taurean Prince’s extended absence with a shoulder injury in with McLaughlin and Towns, who has missed 35 games. “We’ve done a really good job of stepping up. We’re able to add a fresh body. … We needed him.”

The Wolves have played better over the last five weeks but are still looking at options to improve the team. There is a lot to consider.

My thoughts are that there is zero chance D-Lo gets traded at the deadline. I assume they will resign him to a 3 years deal worth about 20-22 million a year.

They will keep Naz and lose him for nothing (maybe sign and trade him after the season).

I think they will let Nowell walk at the end of the season.

Here's what Jonny K. said about them:

"The Wolves have had contract extension negotiations with Reid throughout the season, per league sources. I believe there is an openness on the team’s part to extend him and a desire from Reid to stay if the numbers are right. Couple that with there being no way to know exactly how Towns will come back from his extended absence and it would appear that Reid is here to stay through the deadline unless another team makes an offer they absolutely cannot refuse. Given that he is so close to free agency, it is hard to see an offer like that coming along."

Outlook on Feb. 7: Nowell is shooting 27.7 percent from 3-point range. Every shot he takes seems to carry the weight of the many he missed before it. He appears to be pressing to help the team and position himself for a strong contract this summer. The good news is that McLaughlin is back, so Nowell should benefit from his playmaking in terms of the shot quality he gets. He was a plus-35 in 27 minutes against Denver.

Nowell has made it clear that he isn’t interested in signing an extension and will test free agency, per our Shams Charania. The way things were going, I don’t think the Wolves were going to offer him anything of real substance while he was struggling with his shot. He is a candidate to be traded before the deadline to recoup something before presumably losing him in free agency. What the Wolves can get from another team remains to be seen, and he may remain with them for the rest of the season."

He is the ultimate head-scratcher. He probably is playing the best ball of his career right now and if THIS version of DLO kept it going, he's better than anything we could possible get. However, we all know not to count on this DLO.

The Van Vleet rumors are interesting and he's a good fit, but we'd take a shooting hit.
 

Denver is running Minnesota right out of Denver. They about to hit 50 in the 1st qtr.

Denver lead 49-19 after the 1st qtr.

I'll quit being a wolves fan if dlo is resigned
 





Conley is 35 and his scoring has dropped the last two seasons.

He's making a little over $22 million. his contract is partially-guaranteed for next year.

he's always been a decent 3-point shooter, but again, guy has a lot of milage on him.

it would be nice if the Wolves could somehow get a draft pick in the deal as well.
 

Have now read at least 3-4 possible trade rumors involving Russell. All of them seem to benefit the Lakers more than the Wolves. The other would be with the Clippers.

Why they're possible, most of the rumored deadline trades never happen. Even worse now that the play-in games adds more teams that think they can make the playoffs.

Though never stops the rumors. Particularly if those rumors benefit the Lakers.

Why Conley is a good fit for Timberwolves​

The Timberwolves have long been looking at Conley as a steady-handed veteran who could give them playoff experience and half-court execution to help an offense that has languished this season. They are 20th in offensive rating despite Russell’s terrific shooting season, and have so far struggled to incorporate Gobert on that end of the floor.

Conley and Gobert played together in Utah and built a pick-and-roll synergy that, to this point, Russell and Gobert have not been able to develop. And on a team that hopes to have another player who takes a lot of shots in Karl-Anthony Towns returning sometime after the All-Star break, bringing a more classic quarterback to help run the offense could help smooth things out. — Krawczynski

What Minnesota is losing in Russell​

Russell does have some weaknesses as a player, particularly on defense, but losing his shooting would be a real blow. Russell has been on fire for more than two months now, shooting 43 percent from deep since Dec. 1 on 7.7 attempts per game. He’s upped the volume to more than 10 attempts per game over the past 10 games, breathing spacing into the floor for Anthony Edwards to operate.

Conley is a career 38 percent 3-point shooter, but is hitting just 36 percent from deep this season. It took the Wolves months to figure out how to tinker with the offense after losing Beasley’s volume 3-point shooting in the Gobert trade last summer. Moving Russell out would be similarly challenging to a team already short on perimeter shooting. — Krawczynski
 

Wolves are at Jazz tonight. If they are without Anderson and McLaughlin again and Gobert is either out or trying to play hurt, it could be over quickly.
