Awesome! Hope you can do it! Depending on how much time you have, you might be able to go to the Hoover Dam and Joshua Tree National Forest. I'm guessing that you already knew that, but I just thought I'd mention it. Grand Canyon might be too far in the opposite direction.

Traffic in LA can be crazy at times. Also, when they give directions in LA they tend to use an abbreviated form. Saturday Night Live actually did a skit about it years ago. For example: Going from Santa Monica to the Rose Bowl you might hear, "you take the 10 to 110 to Orange Grove". That's I-10 to US 110 to Orange Grove Blvd. Or they might just call Interstate 10 "Santa Monica". So that would be " you take Santa Monica to 110 to Orange Grove"

Does Google sound like a Californian when giving me directions? If not, can you direct me to an authentic Californian for the cultural experience?

When referring to highways/ interstates, just put the in front of the name. Ex:

Take the 405 north to the Cal 134...

Actually, it's LA more than California. My wife lived in the Santa Monica area for a number of years, she understands the dialect. We joke about it. And no, I doubt that google uses it. LOL. Still it's fun to hear. Just confusing if you don't expect it.

Where ever you go in the US you will find little tells. Minnesota is known for having more of a Canadian accent with the "O" usage.

Oregonians have a tendency to say "neat" and "deal" way too much. Neat meaning cool or good. Deal is use as in "this deal" or "that deal" meaning this thing or that thing. You find this kind of "deal" all over this country.

The only problem with that is when someone says take the Santa Monica to the Anaheim and go north.

We normally do that for all Gopher road games as well and pay way less than face value, but our group will be 12ish, so hard to get a block of tickets together on the secondary market.

I bet you end up paying less than half face value.

I will be driving down to the game. I live 3 hours north of LA. Excited to cover the game for GopherHole!!!

But I have a parking pass secured right outside the stadium, so I plan on having a little GH meetup before the game. I'll share more details as time gets closer.

I live on the door step of Sequoia National Park and my family goes to LA regularly, feel free to contact me for any questions or suggestions. The sequoias are truly something to have on your bucket list.

Glad to see so many Gopher fans heading this way in October!

I have been to Sequoia twice. Just last fall was the most recent. It's my favorite national park. The drive up through the central valley is interesting too. Wonder if we drove through your town? We drove up from LAX and went through Porterville and Lindsay.

LA is fun too. So much to do in CA.

The Central Valley is interesting indeed, the literal bread basket of the world. I am just north west of Porterville, so you were close!
 

For Twin Cities music fans, Soul Asylum has a show in LA on Friday, Oct 11 at The Regent Theater. The Juliana Hatfield 3 are the openers.

Have always bought tix through the U. But thinking of buying on secondary market this time to get chairbacks (due to kids). Been to all current B1G stadiums, so need to go to keep up. Bringing the 9/7/5 year old kids to their first away game and first plane ride. Gonna make a long weekend out of it and do the beach for a day and Disney for a day.

Clapton is playing the Hollywood Bowl Saturday night. If I knew we had a day game, I’d have already bought tickets for me and the Mrs.

I'm not really into Weezer, but that's intriguing because it will be one of the first events at the Clippers new arena (Intuit Dome) as well also features Dinosaur Jr and The Flaming Lips on the bill.

Billy Joel is playing on game day at the same venue.

I saw the prices on Seat Geek (UCLA uses them for secondary market) and there is decently priced seats already. Now that I know where the Gopher fans are sitting I will see what is in that area :)
 

It might be easier to list who ISN'T PLAYING in LA that weekend ...

You can buy tickets through the Gophers for $51. I'm sure those seats are low and in the end zones.

Right now on the UCLA webpage, you can buy seats low and in end zones for $42.

High up seats on the 50 on the Gopher sidelines start at $74.

As mentioned, if waiting until gameday, likely can get in for under all of those prices.

I remember an episode of the Flintstones where they visited the Grand Canyon. It was a foot wide and one inch deep. Fred said "they expect this to be something one day".
