All Things Minnesota at UCLA at Rose Bowl Stadium October 12, 2024

We normally do that for all Gopher road games as well and pay way less than face value, but our group will be 12ish, so hard to get a block of tickets together on the secondary market.

I bet you end up paying less than half face value.

Go Gophers!!
Gopher tickets are only $46 plus $5 in fees and the money goes to the U. Do that.

What money goes to the U? They may take a handling fee, but the ticket money goes to UCLA. I have asked people in the athletic department and they have told me straight out that they don't benefit from fans buying road game tickets through the U.

Exactly. The only benefit of buying road tickets through the U is you're guaranteed to be seated in the Gopher away section.

I was looking on Seatgeek and the prices went up a bit so if you are looking to buy that way maybe wait.

This is why I buy away game tickets through the U. The game is much more fun being in a group of Gopher fans than sitting away from them.
Thanks for being the grown-up.

I always will for games at Kinnick, or any time it's gonna be a packed house, etc.

That won't be an issue at the Rose Bowl, I'll just buy cheapest tickets and mosey on over to the Gopher section.

Finally planning this.

Looks like there are some good hotels in walk-able distance.

Big city locations are so much easier to plan for such things compared to small towns with limited space / rooms / etc.

Are you looking to stay super close to the stadium? Stadium is not really close to a ton of other LA attractions. I would stay somewhere near the other attractions you might do and just drive out to the game.
Good advice

For a cheap but good option, Hi Los Angeles Santa Monica is a highly rated hostel in Santa Monica.

What if GH had a group road trip, to say, the Rose Bowl in 2024? We could get good seats and also all sit together.

There's usually big blocks of seats closer to the field that I see on most ticket broker sites when I have gone to other away games. Rose Bowl has huge capacity and doesn't sell out for Bruins games.

The only thing I don't like about away tickets through the U is they often are in the worst seats in the house. Maybe this could be best of both worlds.

I'm up for it.

Does Google sound like a Californian when giving me directions? If not, can you direct me to an authentic Californian for the cultural experience?
My brother-in-law, lives in San Diego, he's a natural at california speak. He's a "surfer dude". Saturday Night Live did a really good job with it some time ago.

If you want to treat yourself, stay at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena. I stayed there for a week a couple decades ago (different name then), it's about the nicest place I've stayed. I think Calvin Coolidge used it as a secondary residence when he was president. It's a stunning location, I think it's about 27 acres.

Oh man this looks great.

It was a Ritz Carlton when I stayed there, I had one of the cottages just off the main building. Everyone working there was perfect! It was "Good Morning Sir, how is your morning? And that would be from the gardener who stopped what he was doing to greet me. And the finale was when I got in the taxi to leave, once the doorman had loaded my things in the taxi he said something to the driver, as we're pulling away the driver says "I don't know who you are, but I've been told you're very important and I need to take very good care of you". I liked that touch.

I’m flying in Friday and flying out Sunday.

How viable is it just to Uber a family if 4 around for that time period? Seems like renting is maybe more time consuming…

My Gopher football fan buddy is retired and he makes all the plans, which is good. My organizational skills are lacking according to my better half. We are staying in Venice and are supposed to be close to the canals and Abbott Kinney (whatever that is). Go Gophers!

More viable if you are flying into Burbank as opposed to LAX, and not planning on going into Hollywood, Anaheim or a beach.

I would probably rent a car myself but if you're only going to do a couple things while you're there an Uber might make sense.

Per Greder:

“There’s tons of energy and excitement” about playing in the Rose Bowl Stadium, Wierzbicki said. “For road games, we have seen fans travel well, whether it’s Boulder, bowl games or some of these marquee new destinations. Sometimes I say nonconference, but it’s great to have UCLA in the conference. It’s unique getting used to that.”

The Gophers project around 10,000 to 15,000 fans will travel from Minnesota for the UCLA game — or drive from residences in Southern California, where the U has a “good” alumni base, Wierzbicki said. The estimate comes from anecdotal evidence such as internal ticket inquires, questions from fans and responses to events planned for L.A. that weekend, including those for the U foundation and a tailgate party.

Go Gophers!!

Uber works if you have only a few trips. Do the math. What are your trips.

Getting a car is not a hassle. I wouldn't worry about that. It does take a little time.

At LAX, step outside to the curb, A stream of shuttle buses take you to every car rental place you want. Get off the bus. Walk to the counter and get the car. It's not a hassle but takes a little time.

Some people just want to stay right by the stadium. Me, I never miss heading up the coast along the Pacific in a car or similar.

$110 per person. I'm willing to pay a premium for something like this but this is a bit high. I think the Penn State event was $70, which I did.

Parking is free at the Country Club with tailgate ticket, I checked. Then can walk to the game from there. For comparison, Rose Bowl parking through UCLA football is $38.

I always want to do these but ... at those prices it's not for families I guess.
