PiPress: Gophers recruiting: 2014 Lakeville North target JP Macura making official vist to Creighton this week

Last weekend, Macura went back to the U just to see the players practice.

“I just felt more comfortable with everything,” Macura said. “I like their players a lot.”

Macura still hasn’t decided if he’ll take an official visit to Minnesota.

If JP does make it down to Iowa state, Sep. 14 is the Iowa/Iowa State football game FYI.

I trust Ryan James infinitely more than the likes of Doogie Fresh/Sasquatch/Marcus etc.

Doogies problem is that I sense that many of his 'sources' are agents. In the case of ISU, Fred Hoiberg's agent.
 

Also as far as Iowa State, they have Matt Thomas coming in this year. Are Thomas and Macura similar players? I'm looking at the playing time aspect.

Damn. Every time I see that JP is scheduling or taking additional visits I lose a bit of confidence. What is the latest on this kid? Is he just doing his due diligence or is there really no favorite.
 

I'm surprised Macura hasn't committed to the Gophers by now. I still strongly suspect we'll get him, but if he goes elsewhere, well, we've got a lot of players still on our board that are more highly rated.

He's said he won't commit until at least September.

unless he gave you permission to let it out of the bag he committed to the Gophers, what new news could it be?
 



You have to give J.P. a lot of credit, those are all good programs. But I always felt he wanted to wear the maroon and gold.
 


New GopherHole Q&A: JP Macura Says Gophers Are a Good Fit, Would Mean A Lot to Him to be First '14 Commit

Gopher Hole: I know that you have visited Minnesota a couple of time recently. What has your relationship with Coach Pitino and the coaching staff been like?

J.P. Macura: I think that we have a great relationship. Every time, I go to the campus, either it is just visiting with the coaches or watching practice, I have a good time. I can tell that they really want me there. I think that it could be a good fit for me also.

Gopher Hole: They are bringing in a point guard. Lourawls Nairn Jr. for an official visit that week. He plays on the Nike circuit, but do you know anything about him?

J.P. Macura: I don’t know anything about him. Coach Johnson said that he is excited to meet me and hang out with me.

Gopher Hole: What would it mean to play in front of your family and friends at Minnesota?

J.P. Macura: It would be great. If it works and it is the right fit for me, I think that it would a good spot because it is just easy for everyone to get there and they could watch every home game for sure.

Gopher Hole: No one has committed to Minnesota yet because of the new coaching staff and players wanting to make visits. What would it mean to you if you decided to be the first player to commit to Minnesota?

J.P. Macura: I think that it would mean a lot. I think that it would mean that I was the first one to trust their coaching staff. That would mean a lot of them, too.

This is definitely the most positive quotes we've seen directly about the Gopher program by any recruit. This is much more than just the usual platitudes that most recruits give in most interviews.

It looks like his release point is higher than in previous recruiting video's. Maybe I'm crazy but it looks like he has been working on that.

I think he means, look, JP has already visited 3 or 4 times unofficially, he's been interviewed umpteen times ... let's be done with the talk and just get the commitment already. And I agree.
