Man too bad that rally came up short.

Had a fun time at the game tonight- those two outfield plays by Purdue that robbed a HR and an extra base bit were really key- felt like on each of those we would’ve gotten some momentum and who knows.

Concession line was pretty long with only two registers open- I think I missed a full inning in line and unlike Target Field, they aren’t showing the game on a TV to watch while you wait..

Capomaccio was heroic to go from the 5th through the 9th and not give up any runs- hope that effort pays dividends in the next two.

Really kind of weird to be at a game with like maybe 300 people in the stands and be able to hear everything the coaches and Umps are saying, but fun experience

5 strikeouts through 3
Picked off first
Also a misplay on a grounder in the first where we still got the lead runner but no DP opportunity.
Plus the two errors.

This has been a very sloppy start to the game.

Gophers put up 4 in b5 and then proceeded to give it right back with a terrible error at 1b, hit and HR. Boilers lead 5-4 in t6

Two fielding miscues lead to 4 Purdue runs in t1.

This series has been humbling. We have been completely outmatched in every phase....and a Purdue has taken advantage of every mistake we make. Error? Next guy is getting a hit. Walk a guy? Next guy is moving him around.

Gophers trailed 1-7 but have chipped away to make it 6-7 after 3. This would be a nice comeback. Salvaging a game this weekend would be important.

Heck of a comeback. Up 10-7 after 6. Sperry looking great in relief. Here's hoping we can finish it off

Big time much needed win. Sperry and Clausen excellent out of the pen and how about Hokenson off the bench.
Was not sold on Purdue coming into this weekend because of lack of competition but they sure impressed this weekend, very physical lineup.

Honorable mention to Elbeery as well, with some clutch hits.

Agree on Purdue...they seem like a team that has scheduled soft to start season and rack up wins, but they certainly played well this weekend.

Big two-gamer with Kansas. Will be interesting to see what they do on mound.

Weather looks brutal for Eugene...rain, rain, rain.

Good, Bad, Ugly from this weekend vs the Boilers

Good
1. Weber Neels got back on track. Went 4-11 with two doubles and a HR. They absolutely need his bat in the middle of the lineup.
2. Brayden Hellum went 5-12 with a double.
3. Jack Spanier went 4-10 and continues to be a good threat as a book-end of the order (he hit 9th on Fri & Sat and then leadoff on Sunday)
4. Friday & Sunday bullpen were lights out. Capomaccio, Sperry and Clausen went a combined 12 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 11 K. Fantastic performance against a tough Boiler lineup.
5. Easton Richter went 2-5 on Sunday with a 3B and HR.

Bad
1. Berkland cooled off in a big way, going 1-10 on the series
2. Starting pitching really struggled. Selvig, Remington and Thorsteinson went a combined 11.1 IP, 19 H, 13 ER, 3 BB, 9 K and 3 HBP
3. Parker Knoll went a combined 2-12 with 5 K. Simply can't have that from leadoff hitter, which might be why he got moved down in the order on Sunday.

Ugly
1. The fieldling....Woof. Officially it was 5 errors on the weekend. But unofficially there were a couple more. Berkland is really struggling in LF right now.
2. Purdue talks smack. No other way around it. On Friday their pitcher Cook comes in the 9th and gives up a single and 2 walks. You'd think a shaky performance like that would leave him humbled if he escaped with a win but you'd be wrong. When Richter grounded out he was talking smack to him all the way down the baseline and then during the team celebration they kept gesturing him to get off the field. Umps had to step in. Then on Saturday when one of the Boilers hit an absolute moonshot to the upper deck, there was a massive bat flip and trash talking all around the bases. Umps had to step in and give Purdue a warning. Then Purdue coach Greg Goff (who also coaches 3B) started squawking at McDevitt and the umpires had to once again step in. I didn't see if anything happened on Sunday. But needless to say, I was impressed with Purdue's performance but not their behavior. Are they the Vols of the Big Ten?

I think a successful week would be 2-3. Just can't get blanked. Split with Kansas and steal 1 at Oregon. May be a tough task.

Hate to hear that about Purdont. Starts at the top and sounds like players taking Goff's lead. Unfortunate.

On Saturday night, I also noticed after Spanier grounded out to end the game, Purdue players from bench were going out to the infield to celebrate, and as Spanier was just walking back to Gopher's side and just tried to walk through the stream of players, some Purdue player stopped and got into his face with a chest bump as if he was saying 'Go around'.

I didn't see anything Sunday between the teams, but there was a review and Goff and the first base umpire seemed to be going at it pretty good, and then after the review to end game, Goff seemed to have some exchange with the umpires as they left the field (...were blocked by the wall, so couldn't see it...). Not sure how much you can argue on a video review. 🤷‍♂️

The umpiring was strange all weekend. Seemed to be reviewing a lot of calls and there were a couple that seemed so obvious to the naked eye that it was no surprise they got reversed. The ground out to start the game on Sunday (Purdue called out but reversed to safe) and the play at the plate on Saturday (Purdue called safe, reversed to out) immediately come to mind.

There was also a strange play on Saturday where the Gophers protested on a sac fly that Purdue left early from 3rd. Ump calls him out. Then they go to replay and reversed to safe. How does an ump say a runner left early when video doesn't? You absolutely cannot get that wrong.

Well it took 95 minutes but we finally finished the first three innings. Gophers lead 7-5 in what has been an ugly and slow paced game. Gophers have walked 8 and are on their third pitcher.

Gophers get a 10-6 win as both bullpens settle in. Not sure I can remember a game where the teams combined to score 16 runs in the first four innings, and then all zeroes after that. Rooney was solid in relief. It got interesting in 9th with the tying run at the plate with 1 out, but Sundquist got out of it, thanks in large part to a great catch in right by Hellum to end it. Let's get the sweep!

Rooney was great. Really settled things down and saved us from using too many more arms. Getting a win tomorrow would be huge considering it's unclear how many games we will get to play this weekend.
