All Things Gopher Baseball

Also, the 5 HR inning masks the fact that we misplayed another ball in the OF that should have been an out but instead was registered a triple.

Kansas offense welcomed a lot of young pitchers to college today. Nobody likes to see the score but in the end it is just 1 game and a split with a solid team.

Losing 1-29 after 7 innings. This is simply ugly. Flush this from memory and never speak about it again.

Score speaks for itself on this one. Felt like 2 1/2 losses, but still just counts as one. On to PK Park, weather permitting...

New rule, if you allow your opponent to get to 20 runs you should just forfeit your season.

Weather forecast for Eugene hasn't improved at all.
Friday: 50 degrees, 100% chance of rain, 0.25 inches of rainfall expected
Saturday: 47 degrees, 100% chance of rain, 0.50 inches of rainfall expected
Sunday: 51 degrees, 100% chance of rain, 1.00 inches of rainfall expected

Good lord, reality check
Pitching 3 true freshman and a sophomore who has only thrown 13 innings in last 3 seasons because of Tommy-John surgery was not a good spot.

We just don't have the horses to play 2 mid-week games against a t25-35 team like Kansas. 5 games in 6 days stretched us too thin.

Baseball is a funny game. Sometimes the ball gets rolling in the wrong direction and you end up with a huge stinker of a game. Doesn't mean at all that Kansas is that great or we are that bad. It happens and you move on.

Especially when you consider that in the first we were close to putting up 3-4 runs and we were also inches from snagging a line drive at SS to get out of the 2nd without giving up any runs. Both those things happen and who knows how the dynamics of the rest of the game play out.

Funny game indeed.

Saturday's game has been moved up to 2pm (central).
Looks like we'll be dodging raindrops all weekend. Thankfully PK Park is FieldTurf but the mound is clay. So that could require a bit of maintaining as we move along.

Oregon schedule and social media says a 1 pm (central) start tomorrow, so looks like it has been moved again.

BTN+ announcers are always junk. These guys make it sound like we lost 29-1 every game this year.

Raining hard now.
Gophers threaten with a couple singles but a backwards k to Neels on a very questionable pitch stalled the rally. Scoreless after 1.5

Oregon with bases loaded, 2 outs and their leadoff hitter up. Weak grounder to 2b is booted by Richter. The fielding is get really old.

Untimely error. I am just not a fan of Richter playing so deep against lefties, and then having to charge pretty routine ground balls.

Selvig settled in pretty well. Too bad 3 of those runs were unearned.

Clausen picks up Sperry to get the final out in 8th. Need two bloops and a blast in the 9th.

Gophers made it interesting in 9th loading the bases, but Richter popped out and Berklund struck out looking to end it. Bummer...that 2nd inning ended up being difference.

Crucial error and just not being able to come through with the big hit the difference tonight.

1 for 11 with runners in scoring position. I counted 8 backwards k's.

Combine that with 3 unearned runs and this game was there for the taking.

Interesting lineup today with Hunt catching and batting 8th and Lozier playing 2B and hitting 9th. Combined they are 1-12 on the season but maybe McDevitt is liking Lozier glove? Just hope the bottom of the order isn't completely dead weight.

Lineup is lefty heavy.
Hunt with a hard infield single. Only hit of the game so far. Comes around on an error by Oregon. Remington holding the ducks hitless through 3.
1-0 Gophers
