All Things Gopher Baseball

Infield single
Bunt with error
HBP

Bases loaded, no out and ball hasn't left the infield

That would have been an absolute gut punch to lose on a Friday night...great work by the team to battle and snatch a victory. Two shots now to win the weekend.

Yeah that would have hurt bad. Gophers are first team to hit ASU bullpen this year and since they had 2 midweek games this extra inning contest might stretch them a bit. Let's win another one!

Found a 247 ASU baseball message board and they are predictably melting down. Blaming the players and coaches for losing last night. Kind of funny.

Switching gears, nobody has mentioned that McDevitt got ejected last night. It appears he was arguing the calling of a ball for disengaging and not throwing to a base. Seemed clear cut to me but he wouldn't concede his point to either 2b or home plate ump. That's twice he's appeared to really argue something that seemed (to me) to be clear cut the correct call. Wonder if he's like a Gardy in that regard. Just hope he doesn't get a bad reputation from the umpires.

I thought it was his first disengagement and you get one per batter I believe.

Some of those teams have played absolutely horrendous schedules.
The Gophers opponents over the next month are definitely a "muderer's row".

3 road games @ Arizona State, 7-2 record with a 13 RPI
3 home games vs Pudue, 8-0 record with a 32 RPI
2 home games vs Kansas, 8-0 record with 1 RPI
3 road games @ Oregon, 6-2 record with 55 RPI and ranked #11
3 home games vs High Points, 8-1 record and 54 RPI

Threatened a couple times but 9 k's for our hitters thru 4 innings. Oof

Down 0-3. Hope we can hang around. Remington looked good in first and third but got hit hard in second.

What is going on here. Gophers with a win over Arizona State. Nice start to the season. Can they keep it going.

Gophers with back to back to back homers in the top of the 7th. down 8-5. Another Homerun. that 4 in the top of the 7th. 8-6 Arizona State.

Here come Minnesota. now down 8-7. 2 runners on and 1 out in the top of the 9th.

Gophers come up short. Arizona State win game 3 8-7. 2 out of 3 is great.

Thought they would pinch hit for Jake Larson with his strikeout issues but having already used Perry, Neels, Hellum, Larson, and Sutherland off the bench I'm not sure they had anyone left.

5 solo HRs is crazy. The strikeouts are becoming an issue unfortunately. Fun series though and hopefully a sign of good things to come. Purdue will be a tough test to start conference play. Hope a decent crowd comes out to USB Stadium.

That was an entertaining series. All 3 games were close.

Three weekends in, this team looks more athletic. Helium, Martin, Knoll, Richter all look like they can run, and McDevitt seems intent on being much more active on the basepaths.

This team also is also off to a better start defensively. Seems like they have made a fair amount of nice plays in the field (diving catches, double plays, tough outs at first, etc).

Selvig has bolstered the starting rotation, and tough for Sperry, Sundquist and Hemmesch to be better than they have been so far.

If we can cut down on the strikeouts, get Perry back healthy, get Neels going, and get another pitcher to dial in...could be a fun season.

Entering the start of Big Ten conference play, here is where things stand. I’m ranking based on RPI, simply because it puts Minnesota at the top.

39. Purdue, 11-1
50. Michigan, 6-4
