All things fall practice camp

I agree that our pass blocking needs to improve. I don't think that Mitch's fumbling is a function of the pass blocking though - he does not tuck the ball "high and tight," the ball is swings away from his body. That is something that he has to improve on.
+1 On to Cobb. IIRC Kill wants the best on special teams. Having a full stable of backs helps here.

I wouldn't be a fan of Cobb playing on special teams. Yes, we have a handful of capable RB's, but there is a pretty big dropoff from Cobb to the other guys in terms of reliability and/or talent in my opinion.

Nothing gets approved on GH because there are too many negative "what if's".

This not true. Until a player sets foot on campus, everything is approved. This honeymoon period occasionally extends to a redshirt. Then, once they are eligible and especially if they play, it becomes negative.

That is true. I was off base.

Plus, GopherHolers really, REALLY hate former coaches.

I recall MB# returning punts and possibly kickoffs earlier in his career. Can't say for sure that he did in his final season though.

True. I could not have guessed that Marcus Sherels would become a quality NFL Returner either. Good for him though and I am happy he is continuing a career in the NFL and representing us well!

I don't really see benefit of Cobb on special teams. He isn't fast enough to return punts or kicks (I don't think) and don't know why you would want your #1 back running down punts/kicks.

Maybe Cobb asked? Maybe Cobb is sure handed and makes good judgements.

I don't have any inside information, but I can definitely see a role for Cobb on the hands team and maybe onside kicks, even if he isn't a regular member of the special teams..

Duane Bennett played ST regularly even as the starting RB. Id hope we're deep enough now tht we don't need a starting RB covering kicks or blocking but who knows

When talking about RB's, coaches will sometimes refer to pass protection, picking up the blitz, etc. as "special teams". Basically saying he is doing a good job with the nuances of the position. That's my take anyways. I could be wrong.

Apparently Gaelin Elmore got moved to DE this week. Has this been mentioned yet?

Quotes from Kill after today's practice:
-Said he liked what they saw from yesterday's scrimmage, but that the younger players are getting worn out and aren't yet used to the grind.
-offensively the team threw the ball well and Mitch had a good scrimmage. The receivers also caught the ball better in yesterday's scrimmage.
-Craig James has played well and it would be hard to RS him.
-He's still calculating whether or not to redshirt freshmen WRs.

Also said Elmore will play this year. A bit surprising with the recent position switch.

Cobb is proven and very confident, Kirklandwood is healthy for the first time in years, Williams has a chip on his shoulder, Edwards is healthy and has good hands, Jones is in school.

Oh, and a 6'10 new receiver is going to be a big part of the game plan.

Should be an interesting year for the O. Too bad our OL is so small and inexperienced. :)

You left out a rather important position????
