Jarvis started all games this weekend played outstanding vs All Iowa Attack Nike (one guy conspicuously attired in Marquette garb standing on each baseline for the entire game) Played ok vs Jake Sullivan Kingdom hoops. Got in the dog house vs AIA National for not trying to get the ball to Alex on every possession and sat most of second half. Did get in for final do or die minute.

I always assumed he was a PG and ESPN considers him a PG as well, but it looks like the other recruiting services consider him a SG. I see no reason why he couldn't play PG. If we got him, but missed on other PG targets, I definitely think he'd have a good shot at the starting PG spot if Mason doesn't develop fast enough. But it doesn't really matter because Pitino likes playing multiple guys that can handle the ball.
 



Probably a long shot for the Gophers when we offered him, but Doral Moore didn't list Minnesota in the schools recruiting him the hardest recently. Not that we don't have a shot at him still, but it seems more like a pipe dream at the moment.

"At the Tournament of Champions in Atlanta, Ga., this weekend, 5-star center Doral Moore listed for 247Sports Ohio State, Illinois, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Indiana and Texas as the schools recruiting him the hardest.

A 7-footer out of Locust Grove (Ga.) Luella, Moore has a skilled, finesse game that resembles that of former Baylor center Isaiah Austin. Moore rarely shoots three-pointers, however.

At this point Kentucky has a stranglehold on Moore's Crystal Ball.

Moore is ranked No. 19 by 247Sports and No. 16 in the 247Sports Composite."

I don't think the AD has any direct effect on recruiting, but if you hire a coach that plays boring basketball to replace a coach who played losing basketball and the fiasco goes on for 12 years. The local kids have no idea there ever was a good program here.
JM waited too long to fire Monson and hired a guy who delegated recruiting to a crappy staff. Tubby got the Minnesota kids he got off the rep he had from KY, he would have done no better with the current local recruiting targets than Pitino has because it was clear the program was going no where and he is a jerk to his players. In fact, I don't think we would have come close with Travis if Tubby were still here.
Other than that, great argument.

Agreed.Had a neighbor who was a Kentucky booster and told me when Tubby was hired he is a "lazy recruiter"and that was the real reason he was fired by the Wildcats.

I'm not sure "coming close with Travis" is something to boast about. Further, I don't think Tubby was a jerk to his players. It sure seemed like a lot of his players really loved him. Now, I won't argue with you on the horrible staff part. I think that was his downfall. However, the point is that Tubby is the past, and Pitino's the future. I'm not going to rip Tubby just because he's gone, but I certainly hope Pitino far surpasses his achievements.
 

Will never forget when Spencer Tollackson said in a radio interview that Tubby "lost the team".Said he attended all practices and spoke with the players frequently.Not sure if he was a jerk or the players lost confidence in him,but it did not bode well for his coaching abilities.To lose 4 top players on his team this year makes one wonder.

Tubby was never fired by UK, he may have beat the posse by a year or two, but he wasn't fired.
 



can we leave Tubby back in 2013? This is supposed to be a 2015 thread. Unless the Raiders and the Gophers are targeting the same recruits...

I heard that same thing from some KY fans. Of course, their notion of good recruiting is a little stricter than ours. I would have been happy with some of Tubby's KY players: Rajon Rondo, Tayshawn Prince, Chuck Hayes, Keith Bogans, Kelenna Azubuike.
 


Mason and Trier seem to be pretty friendly. Can't hurt in our pursuit of Trier.

Some comments on Jarvis Johnson from the Rivals national guy (Eric Bossi) from a free (I believe) article:

"Another point guard whose shooting woes are troublesome is four-star Jarvis Johnson. Through two sessions of EYBL play, the six-footer from Minneapolis who plays for Howard Pulley is shooting just 29.1 percent from the field (18.5 percent from three) while making just 54.2 percent of his free throws. Compounding the issue for Johnson is that he is averaging more turnovers per game than assists. Unless Johnson gets things turned around, others at his position will be passing him up during the next rankings update. "

Last year he shot 32.4% from three on 102 attempts and 41.9 from the field in 23 games so he's in a shooting funk right now.
 

Jarvis isn't a great shooter, but he's better than those numbers would lead you to believe. Just a slump. Could be a blessing in disguise if it scares other teams off.
